EL-SAYED WINS: Michigan Democratic US Senate primary fuels debate over party's progressive shift

closed, the S&P 500 lost 13. The Nasdaq. fell about 222. As we mentioned at the top, a huge win. for far left Democrats is Abdul Rahman. Al-Sayed defeats Congresswoman Haley. Stevens in Michigan's US Senate primary. He will face Republican former. Congressman Mike Rogers in November. Our. senior national correspondent Rich Edson. is in Belleville, Michigan with the. latest reaction tonight. Good evening, Rich.

>> And good evening, John. Well, Michigan. Democrats are now lining up behind Abdul. El-Sayed, who had to wait until this. morning to declare victory after an. unexpectedly close primary race. >> You know, in the words of Muhammad Ali, we shook up the world. >> Abdul El-Sayed is moving beyond his. primary fight against Congresswoman. Haley Stevens. >> Sometimes, you know, intra-family. quarrels squabbles are the biggest ones. But, we all know. that when we walk out the house, we. stand united.

>> As promised, Stevens is endorsing. El-Sayed, saying in a statement, quote, "This was a thorough and rigorous. campaign that brought out full span of. views within the Democratic Party. And. that is why we have primaries." During. their primary campaign, Stevens called. El-Sayed's rhetoric divisive and claimed. that he wanted to blame all his problems. on Jewish Americans with his focus on. criticizing Israel's government and. AIPAC spending on this race to defeat. him. Pushing universal health care, abolishing ICE, and getting billionaires. out of politics, El-Sayed appeared with. national progressives like Congresswoman.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, and Ilhan Omar, and Senator Bernie. Sanders. >> The key race was the Senate race. in which Dr. Abdul El-Sayed uh won a a. victory. Now, what Abdul had to do is. take on the entire Michigan Democratic. establishment. >> El-Sayed appeared before the primary at. a pool party with progressive. influencers including Hasan who. also attended his election night watch. party. One fellow swing state Democrat. says that association will cost El Sayed.

in a general election. >> A lot of the things that he has done and. said during the primary were going to. come back to haunt like campaigning with. a with a guy that loves Hamas and is. very proud to stand with communist. regimes. >> President Trump is calling El Sayed's. nomination great news for the Republican. Party because he's quote a communist. loser who hates Jews and Israel adding. as usual the polls were way off on this. one. Republican nominee Congressman former.

Congressman Mike Rogers says that El. Sayed is not just any other liberal but. an extremist. John. >> Hello everybody. I'm Martha MacCallum. along with Kayleigh McEnany, Leslie. Marshall, [music]. Jesse Watters and Greg Gutfeld. It's. 5:00 in New York and this is The Five. Well, well, well, shot across the bow. for the Democratic establishment. progressive Abdul El-Sayed squeaked out. a narrow victory about 14,000 votes.

defeating stick-it-to-em moderate Haley. Stevens in the Michigan Senate primary. that has exposed some deep divisions. within the Democrat Party. El-Sayed. extending an olive branch today. He said. he spoke with Stevens. He said she's. going to support him. Uh they're going to be unified and he. shouted out the socialist OG. Bernie Sanders and said he's the man who. made it all possible. Watch. >> I know that it was a a bitter end to. this very long primary but I also know.

that Haley brings. the best of herself to her work. She is. one of the most committed public. servants that you'll ever meet. She. loves democracy like I love democracy. I. got to give a special thank you to my. first endorsers. Bernie Sanders the OG who came in on day. one put his entire shoulder in the work. They think that you want to use my whole. name against me. Mike, listen, man, if. you can't say the name, it's Abdul. Rahman, keep the name out your damn. mouth. >> But it wasn't working. It was the. working class voters that Elsayed claims.

to represent who pushed him to victory. Politico reports that the radical. candidate performed best among wealthy, highly educated white voters primarily, while moderate Democrats, Stevens picked. up the black vote, Detroit, Flint, lower-income areas, and less educated. areas. So, think about what that means. for the future. And President Trump. weighed in on the race, calling Elsayed, quote, "a communist loser," he said,

warning it's a slippery slope for the. country to start electing socialist. candidates. >> I think it's crazy because they're going. to ruin our country. They want to I. don't know if they want to. I think. either they're very naive or they. actually want to ruin the country. Uh no matter where you look, go back a. thousand years with different names, anybody doing what they're doing and. what they're espousing, uh everything turns out to ashes and. junk and filth. >> All right, Kayleigh, let's start with. you. Um you could feel him in this.

new in this statement that he made. today, kind of trying to pull to the. middle here because he knows he's got to. win over some of those voters who voted. for Haley Stevens, who didn't want him. in this primary. >> Yeah, no doubt about it. And he did a. pretty savvy job at that. Elsayed is to. me one of the most dangerous left-wing. candidates out there. Why? Because he. rejects the label of socialism while. operating under the veneer of socialism. You look at his policies, Medicare for. all, abolish ICE, Supreme Court reform, billionaire tax, arms embargo on Israel.

These are all policies of the DSA. But. yet, he says, "I reject the DSA" on one. hand, but then on the other hand, he is. at six DSA events. He headlined a. fundraiser for the DSA. He has a litany. of socialist policies, but he's. dangerous because he rejects it in name, so voters have to study closely. But, Democrats, socialism is on the march. You see this with Elsayed. You see it in. DC. They're about to have a socialist. mayor. They already have one in Seattle. uh with Katie Wilson. We have one here. in New York City with Zephyr Teachout. Mamdani. And you look across the party. and these left-wing socialists are.

winning. Here's the problem they have, and you pointed to it in this. introduction. There's a divide, a real. divide among Democratic voters. The. working class does not support the. socialist. The college educated do. There's a huge divide. Another divide. you have white liberals who support the. socialist, but black black voters, voters of colors in these primaries do. not. Politico said it succinctly. It was. a break between two unsettled factions. of the Democratic Party, black voters. and the left. So, that's where we stand. Can you unite these two factions?

Possibly as Zephyr Teachout Mamdani did. it, but I'm not sure that's going to. work statewide in Michigan. Final. takeaway, and to me the biggest takeaway. of the night, Jesse, you have one of the. greatest heads of hair in television, but we lost one of the greatest heads of. hair in Congress, Shri Thanedar. He's. gone, and that is a tragedy. So, Leslie. >> [laughter]. >> Look at that. >> Leslie, how do you How does the. Democratic Party address this when you. have working voters, working class. voters, who the people who say they're.

all about the worker won't vote for? >> Well, first of all, now you're going to. have him up against a Republican, a. pro-Trump Republican, um a Republican. who is not originally from Michigan like. Elsayed is. And, you know, I cert- Will. some people stay home and not like him. maybe even just because he's Muslim? Really? Um but, there are going to be. people that are going to come out and. they're going to vote for him because. I'm hoping, as we're already seeing that. the Democrats are going to band together. cuz to them it's for the greater good to. have a Democrat in power, whether.

they're the more liberal progressive. faction, even a DSA uh candidate, uh. than to have, you know, their moderate. candidate that they wanted. I'm a. moderate Democrat, but I certainly want. a Democrat more than I do a Republican. and more than I do a pro-Trump. Republican. You know, some people we're. not talking about today that also won. We, you know, everybody thinks that and. we're we're talking about and it makes. the news cycle when we have the far left. of the left win. But, we don't talk. about Adam Hamilton in Kansas who talks. about working on both sides. Katie Hobbs. is going to pick a Republican as.

lieutenant governor. Eugene Bidman is. certainly not a socialist. How about. Elena Luna who is a Jewish uh candidate. who won, who is pro-Israel. and pro-AIPAC, and then Fred Wellman who. is also a moderate. Those are just a. few. They all won yesterday, too. We're. not talking about them. The reason is the majority of Democrats. are moderates. Do we see more people, especially among the youth, not just the. white college educated, especially among. the youth, do we see these younger.

people saying, "Yes, I like what I'm. hearing." And what they're hearing, the. message that they're hearing, you. touched upon some of it, Kayleigh. Uh. what what did Sayoc say? "I want to make. healthcare, groceries, gas more. affordable." I think most Americans want. that. "I don't want data centers in the. town." Most Americans don't want that. Um I I want to have less money, if not. any money, in politics. "I want to tax. the rich. I want to end the war in Iran. I want to have money spent here on. Americans, not in other countries, including the country his parents are.

from, Egypt.". >> And he can't be sad about the Ayatollah. being gone cuz that would sadden his. voters. >> Yeah. >> Forgot that one. >> He said you can't say anything about it. because some people are really sad that. the Ayatollah died uh in Dearborn. >> saw that in Iran in Iran, we saw that. And certainly there. >> With El-Sayed's voters. >> I live in Los Angeles, which is called. Tehrangeles. I saw people marching for. and against what we're doing. >> Well, okay, cuz the the Iranians that I. know in New York were would have danced. on his grave because he slaughtered tens. of thousands of people in the street.

And for some reason, this individual has. a hard time uh saying that it's a good. thing that he's no longer on this earth. Jesse, um Mike Rogers gave us a little. bit of a of a window into where he's. going to go with this. He said, "I spent. years hunting terrorists and bringing. Osama bin Laden to justice. Never in a. million years did I think I would be. running against someone who believes. America deserved 9/11." And that was a. quote from Hassan who also had. likes to hang out with quite a bit. He. was with him right before the election. >> Yeah, but you got to respect that dude.

because he beat the machine. Big Gretch, Pelosi, Schumer, he slaughtered them. A Jewish super PAC, 30 mil, couldn't do it. And so, say what you. want about him, this guy is a force that. Mike Rogers is going to have to deal. with. Mike Rogers was born and raised in. Michigan, by the way. I don't know if. you knew that, but that's a fact. Now, the Democrat establishment has lost. total control. From Michigan to Maine to. New York, the base is now calling the.

shots. And it was a very simple message, and. you are right. All I hear from this guy, Medicare for all and the war, abolish. ICE, get money out of politics, especially Jewish money. And he was very. crafty distancing himself from the crazy. communist. Did it just enough to be able. to pull it off. And he's always doing. hits, constantly, on my feed, on TV. So, that's something you're going to have to. deal with. He still lost half Democrat primary. voters, right? And he's got ethnic.

problems, he's got class issues. And he's a Muslim in Michigan, and that. will be a factor. This is a 75% white. state, a Big Ten state. He's got to. connect there. If he can't connect, he's. toast. The. Rogers guy isn't 100% MAGA. You know, he's Army, former FBI special agent, member of. Congress. I think he matches up great. against Abdul. So, there's a great chance Republicans pick. up this seat and pick up the Maine seat.

and if that happens, it's not going to. be John Fetterman's head on a stake, it's going to be Bernie Sanders. >> Yeah, he said he wanted basically wanted. Fetterman's head on a pike. He said. ideally you put one ogre on a pike and. then everyone else gets the message and. all of the sudden it starts to sound a. lot different out there. >> They think that you want to use my whole. name against me. back to uh his his comments there and I. just wonder from your perspective based. on what we saw yesterday and today, you. know, where this socialist movement is. going next. >> Yeah, well I'd add one more day under. your list, the day before yesterday. Final day of the campaign he spends. campaigning with Hasan who said. America deserved 9/11. Who said uh. Israel's responsible for what they. brought on themselves in October 7th and. if Hamas choose rape and and and dealing.

with its victims, uh quote it doesn't. change the dynamic for me. I mean, this. is a guy who uh and is now the. Democratic nominee who has a long list. of outrageous comments that did that uh. clearly exemplify his disdain for the. United States of America and his far. left credentials and if they think. that's a winning message, I think. they're kidding themselves. >> I. It [clears throat] is incredible the. things that are emerging right now and.

the things that we are hearing. This is. the a New York Times editorial board. member Mara Gay. on the Dem socialists making the case. that Dem socialists are winning because. they're naming a villain and Carl, that. villain is corporate America. Listen. here. >> The progressives are naming a villain. So, they're not just talking about. affordability like the establishment. Democrats are. They are saying this is a. top-down fight because we're the little. guy, you're the little guy and the.

villain is corporate America. >> Cuz guess what? They don't believe in. capitalism. They don't believe in. profits these socialists. So, their. target corporate America. >> Yeah, the Democratic Socialists of. America call for a takeover of all major. corporations in America and what they. call essential industries. For example, food, transportation, education, housing. All of these would. be taken over by the government. And do. you think the ordinary individual is.

going to have, you know, they say, "Look, you won't going to have a. landlord. You won't have a mortgage. Isn't that great?" Well, you know what? That means the government is in charge. of telling you where you live and you. don't You can't use as many American. families have done the purchase of a. home as a way to build wealth. It's a good thing to have a mortgage. because it means you are buying. something that will grow in value over. the years ahead and provide you, you. know, some some wealth that you could. use in your retirement or pass on to. your kids. And yet they say, "We We. We're in favor of the government taking.

that decision away from you." Same with. the grocery store. You shouldn't have. any of your choice of which grocery. store you go to. In New York City, let's. have a government grocery store which. will give you the bare minimum. I mean, this is This is not going to end well. for the Democrats if they embrace this. kind of thinking. >> Well, Laura Ingraham sits down with the. Vice President J.D. Vance in a new. interview. What they're. promising is redistribution. >> But yet at Carl, should there be concern. with Republicans as the Wall Street. Journal. puts it that socialists may prove. surprisingly strong come November. The. sub-headline Democrats stayed away when. Bernie Sanders came to Congress. Now he. has become a kingmaker. So unless.

Republicans really can champion that. message that Vance just shared that that. that this is just redistribution that. they're talking about, right? Taking. your money and giving it to somebody. else. Unless they can champion the. message that they're going to improve. the lives of everyday voters, will. socialists run away with us? >> Well, I'm not sure they will run away. with it cuz the American people have. good common sense. But if what you're. suggesting is the Republicans need to. have a message of what it is that they. want to do to make the country better. Totally agree with you. And if you. they're also suggesting they need to.

have a message to counter the democratic. socialist message of why is it not good. to have the government put in more in. charge of more of the decisions that you. have in your life. Why is it not good to. have the government take more from. people in the form of taxes to give away. to other people. Republicans have got to. have answers on both sides of those. equations in order to be effective this. fall, certainly. >> I mean. they've got to spell it out, right? Because Bill Ackman's now given this new. interview with Fortune. magazine he says socialism's a disaster.

He says think about what these left-wing. mayors are promising. They're going to. cure the affordability crisis yet they. are creating all the red tape and almost. impossibility for developers to build. new housing when the socialists are. promising new housing. El-Sayed in downtown Detroit, where he. acknowledged the pretty nasty primary he. just went through. >> You heard about the historic turnout. Sometimes, you know, intra-family.

quarrels squabbles are the biggest ones. But, we all know that when we walk out. the house, we stand united. And sometimes we got to have it out. about the conversation about who we are. and who we want to be. >> Well, he had it out with Stevens. She. released a statement today saying, quote, I am proud to offer my support as. he takes on Mike Rogers, Donald Trump, and Mike Rogers want us to come out of. this primary tired and divided so their. billionaire backers can come in and let. multi-millionaire Mike Rogers walk away.

with this Senate seat. During their. primary campaign, Haley called or Haley. Stevens called El Sayed's rhetoric. divisive and said that he wanted to. blame all his problems on Jewish. Americans with his focus on criticizing. Israel's government and AIPAC spending. on this race. She also criticized El. Sayed for hanging out Monday night at a. pool party with influencers like. controversial progressive commentator. Hasan was also at El. Sayed's party last night. Referring to. Stevens yesterday said, "We don't. need demagogues or people citing.

allegiance to Chairman Mao coming into. Michigan." Republican candidate Mike. Rogers says on all this, quote, "The. choice in November is simple, common. sense or complete insanity. Abdul isn't. just another liberal. He is an. extremist." This morning, El Sayed. challenged Rogers to five debates in the. next 13 weeks until election day. Sandra? >> Rich, that gives us a lot to talk about. Thank you very much, John. >> All right, Sandra, let's bring in. Indiana Republican Senator Jim Banks. Senator Banks, great to see you this.

afternoon. So, El Sayed looked like he. was going into this race running away. with it with a 10.2% advantage in the. RealClearPolitics average, but he he. beat Haley by only a single point. A lot. of people are saying that that's almost. a loss for El Sayed. What do you think? >> Well, yes, the the all of the pundits. thought this race would be a landslide. victory for El Sayed and it wasn't, but. I think that's because Michigan is a. blue-collar, working-class state. You. have a lot of union Democrats, factory.

workers that live in that state that. don't want to vote for a guy like Abdul. El Sayed El Sayed who wants to take away. their gun rights, he wants to he wants. to codify Roe v. Wade and overturn the. Dobbs decision, he wants to abolish ICE, and a lot of the working-class families. in Michigan, just like in Indiana and. around the country, these families just. want to keep their these men and women. just want to keep their families safe, and El-Sayed wants to abolish ICE and.

allow the drug cartel gangs to take over. the streets of cities in Michigan. You. look at the extreme positions that. El-Sayed has staked out, and if he would. happen to win in November, he would be. the most extreme Democrat radical United. States Senator that we've ever had. He. would make Bernie Sanders look squishy. with the positions that he's staked out. And already this morning, he's trying to. moderate and change his tune, but look. at what he said throughout the campaign. His rhetoric is dangerous, his policies,

his positions are extreme and dangerous. And I I I have never felt better up to. up to this point. I have never felt. better about Republicans keeping, if not. growing, the majority in the United. States Senate than what I how I feel. today after watching El-Sayed win this. this this Michigan Democrat primary. >> Well, we will see how it all turns out. in November, but you know, you you say. despite his controversial record, establishment Democrats, like Debbie.

Dingell, moderate of moderates, say. they're going to get behind him. Listen. to what she said earlier today. >> Abdul was very good at meeting with. people, talking to people. We didn't see. Haley that much, quite frankly. The kids. can't even afford to rent, and the kids. that are graduating can't find jobs. That's a problem. They want to make. enough money to put food on the table, go to the grocery store. They can't. >> Yeah, Debbie Dingell is a huge supporter. of Israel, but yet she's willing to give. El-Sayed a pass on all that. >> Yeah, El-Sayed wouldn't even acknowledge.

and say whether or not Israel had a. right to exist, but you hear Debbie. Dingell and other Michigan Democrats, Democrats around the country, they they. are afraid of the DSA wing, the radical. extreme wing of the Democrat Party, and. that's why they're going to support a. very flawed extreme candidate to their. their own detriment. And this isn't just. about Michigan, this is about the whole. country and what the Democrat Party has. become in in America as we head into. this midterm election. That's what this. is all about, it's the extreme positions.

of the radical left versus Republicans. who are trying to make make life better. for working-class families, the the the. Trump tax cuts, the the work that we've. done to bring down the cost of living in. America, the focus on that. And these. extreme Democrats are focused on just. the opposite. >> So, you know, El Sayed was walking. hand-in-hand with Bernie Sanders, but. Bernie Sanders even goes so far as to. say he does not agree with El Sayed's. position on 9/11, but he's still willing. to back him. Listen to this exchange.

>> Hacker said America deserved 9/11. Are. you comfortable with that association? >> No, I am not. I think that's a dumb. statement. On the other hand, he has a. whole lot of followers and there's a lot. of things that he's saying that are. making sense to a lot of people. I. think, you know, we have to get above. cancel culture. >> Yeah, it's ironic because it was. Democrats who invented cancel culture. And Bernie Sanders has got a track. record. Let's go back to Maine and Grand. Rapids uh backing some very. controversial candidates, but on certain. issues, very important issues, he's. willing to turn a blind eye, he's.

willing to look the other way just to. win a seat. >> Yeah, El Sayed would be the most extreme. senator ever. And contrast that with. Mike Rogers, by the way. Mike Rogers is. a patriot, he served in the United. States Army, he served in Congress, dedicated his life to public service, served in the FBI, has an extraordinary. track record, and and barely lost in the. last election to Elissa Slotkin who ran. as a moderate. El Sayed is running as an. extreme DSA type Democrat, a radical.

Democrat. That's a big difference. I I. have a great feeling about Mike Rogers. winning the winning Michigan and winning. it in a big way. >> All right, we'll see. The. RealClearPolitics average at the moment, and I know it's just a snapshot in time, has only got Rogers ahead by 0.3 of a. percentage point, but we'll see. We got. a long time between now and November. Now, El-Sayed spent his primary. eve paling around with far-left. political commentator Hasan This.

is the same man who said that America. deserved 9/11. Meanwhile, establishment Democrats did. score some victories including. Congressman Wesley Bell defeating. socialist Cori Booker Cori Bush I should. say in Missouri, but don't mistake that. for the far-left fading away. Squad. member Rashida Tlaib easily secured. another nomination and even CNN's Van. Jones acknowledges the alarming shift in. the Democratic Party. >> The revolution is being televised and. podcast and streamed and elected.

tonight. There is a credibility gap. that's opened up between the Democratic. Party establishment and this insurgency. Why can you spend $60 million. and get whooped like this? Maine performed best among wealthier and. highly educated voters, while moderate. Democrats still perform better in lower. income and less educated areas. It was. also a sign of a break between two. unsettled factions of the Democratic. Party, black voters and the left. We've. seen this across the country.

What it reminded. me a little bit, ladies, is 2015-2016, Donald Trump emerges, and they're. they're running to every Republican. politician in America saying, "Do you Do. you support him or not?" And. uh a lot of Republicans did, and some of. them did not because they did not like. his. personality. Some suggested that he. wasn't conservative enough, also, but it. was really a personality issue. I look. at the issues that uh Sayed is.

supporting here now, and I. they they align. with Democratic primary voters. I will. grant you that. Medicare for all, I. think you get a lot of people who stayed. in Michigan who supported Bernie Sanders. 10 years ago. uh would support Medicare for all. Uh. tax the rich, that's always been on the. table. This ICE reform idea, I mean, it's somewhat new because of the. crackdown on the Trump team uh during. 2.0. Abolish the filibuster, I'm not. sure if that's like ever on everyone's. front burner, but okay, I'll give it to.

you. And then this whole idea about. campaign uh campaign finance reform, that has to do with outside money. And I. I just look at these issues, and the one. thing I did not mention was no military. aid to Israel. And this I think is the dividing line, whether it's like Chuck Schumer holding. back his support for his campaign, or. whether other Democrats and other like. Van Jones said podcaster like Hasan. who by the way is going to be. stuck to this party like glue for a very.

long time now because of this victory. this morning. So, I think in a lot of ways it comes back. to Israel. And I I'm not quite sure how the. Democratic Party manages that. Like the Republicans went through this. 10 years ago, but it. I think fundamentally was about. personality. And it wasn't policy. And. this time it is policy. And I think. that's a distinction that needs to be. made aware of. I've been holding on to. this Fox poll for 3 weeks. 2 weeks, July 17th.

Do you have a favorable opinion among. Democrats of the DSA? 59% said yes. Socialism, 52% said yes. Do you have a favorable opinion of. capitalism? Only 41% of Democrats agreed. on that point. Um likewise, Republicans. were only at 61%. So, I don't know. what's moving out there, but it's. something we need to take a notice of. I. think with regard to Saadiq, I think. he's already starting to make a pivot. I.

watched his interview he did this. morning on MSNBC and he said we need. better schools and we need better roads. Well, that that really wasn't a lot of. what he was saying day-to-day. He was. mentioning AIPAC and Israel just about. every stop that he made. And then he he. talked about outside money earlier. today. But but he didn't mention AIPAC and he. didn't mention Israel specifically. So, I just wonder if there's something. happening there. With regard to Mike. Rogers, he barely lost 2 years ago. He's.

he's declaring this a change election. He's blaming Democrats for the. unaffordability in Michigan. Maybe it'll. work. We will see, but right now that. this is a very interesting race where. the people in Michigan have a decision. to make. Do they go with this. center-right Republican or do they go. with this progressive borderline. socialist Democrat? And I'm let's have at it. I mean, we. studied the state for weeks for a reason.

and we'll find out in just about 90 days. um. which direction Michigan chooses. >> I don't think Harris, a socialist, can. win statewide. This is why Saed is such. a dangerous candidate because he's. rejected the socialist label. But we. went through yesterday all the DSA. events he's been at, the the fundraiser. he's headlined. He's DSA all over him. though he rejects the label. >> Well, he was hanging out with Hasan. like. >> the day before. >> Yeah, the day before [laughter] the I. mean, I I don't think that there is. enough in his history unless you play it.

24/7 side by side all over every social. media page, all over everything. that can compete with a win. I mean, you didn't stop him. Spent $70 million with corporations. He. bragged about that. How much money was. spent against him? Basically to get him. to beat the other Democrat on the. ticket. Hayley Stevens who had already. said, "Well, if he wins, I'm with him, too.". I mean, I I I I think that Democrats are. tired of losing. and they'll do anything. They'll drink. the sand now in the desert if they have. to because they they're so thirsty.

So, I I think that this could be the. next like wave of the Mondani. And quite. frankly, he threw down race. in all of this, too. Learn how to. pronounce my name, Mike Rogers? Where's. he going with that? >> Mondani said said the same thing to. Andrew Gillum. >> it's a playbook that they're calling. from. And guys like Robert Wolf have. come into he's a contributor on this. network at times have come in. He told. me personally, "I came in to you know, talk to Mondani.".

And that was months ago. So, they are getting some coaching from. some moderate Democrats. I don't know if. Wolf has worked with El Sayed. I called. him several times last week. I'm still. trying to connect with him. We need to. talk about these things because if. that's what's happening, they're looking. for their next Obama type person. Now, remember Obama got the cred for deport. her in chief. But his vice president let millions of. people in. You don't think that they. were bipolar in that moment? No, they. were in lockstep. He knew that he would. do one step of the dance and Biden would.

do the next. Kamala couldn't get it done, so they. didn't back her really. But this is their next hope. They need. somebody else to take the mantle and. it's got to be a generational change. No. more of these people that are. generationally not there. And and that's the other thing that El. Sayed was was kind of calling out. subtext today. I mean, it wasn't about Bernie Sanders. It's about the future. It's about the. young people in the audience. Look, he's. articulating this. We can run all the. tape of all the like racist and.

anti-Semitic and evil things. But at the heart of this is. he won. Yeah. So, how do you keep him from. winning in November? And it's going to. take more than just one Republican on a. ticket and millions of dollars. You're. going to have to put up a wall now with. policies. You're going to have to attack. affordability in a whole host of new. ways. Republicans have the horses to run. in this. They've got the majority. They. need to start running. >> Carolyn, here's the problem. Democrats. did fight El Sayed with 70 million.

dollars. Establishment Democrats did, but they lost. And to Harris's point, I. do think they want power more than. anything else. So, I don't think you're. going to see more John Fetterman's and. Henry Cuellar's. You're going to see the. embrace of a far left agenda because. power is more important than ideological. purity on the issue of capitalism, which. makes our country great. >> Truly. And the irony of Chuck Schumer. saying, "Okay, I guess we'll adopt the. Democratic Socialists for a survival. strategy." Is that you're essentially. ceasing to exist as the Democratic Party. that we've known, that our grandfathers, that our our fathers, our parents knew.

And I know Chuck Schumer said right. after El Sayed won the primary, "Well, we're a big a big tent party." But a. tent by definition has borders. And the. borders of that party were that. capitalism and the free market system. were the only ones that were compatible. with the United States of America since. our inception. You have thrown out the. baby with the bathwater. You are no. longer recognizable as the same party. But I think looking towards the general. election to to Bill's point, you know, Mike Rogers is a sensible, credible. candidate. I think it's going to be a. very contested race because at the end.

of the day Michiganders might actually. prefer someone who cares about the auto. industry and the manufacturing sector. more than AIPAC and Israel, which has. been El Sayed's primary preoccupation. and obsession, which has nothing to do. with the daily struggles of. Michiganders. >> Yeah, that's why El Sayed asked for five. debates. He knows he needs those five. debates. If you look at the polling, Mike Rogers is ahead by about four. points. Now, he needs the debates. >> But, you know, he's got his finger on. the pulse and the Democratic Party, sadly, is in flux right now. They have. no direction. But the young people with.

the socialist movement, they are. energized. They're energized by social. media. It's a grassroots campaign. And, you know, the Democrats, the older. Democrats, are going by the old. playbook. It doesn't work anymore. You. know, Bernie Sanders used to be an. outsider. Nancy Pelosi put AOC in a corner. These. people have juice now. They are running. the party and we're going to see change. >> Yeah, 1.52 million people voted in that.

state for races in Michigan. That's. historic. In the middle of summer. >> Yeah, and it's worth noting the polling. was very off. Nearly every poll had El. Sayed winning by double digits and it. said El Sayed was winning. Yeah, absolutely. And that's why a lot of. people are asking, "Do the Democrats. have a white liberal problem?" Where. they're not accurately polling voters of. colors and those who rejected El Sayed. >> I I I think also that the methods for. the polling themselves, you really have. to look at are they sending you a text. message, they send you an email, how are. you doing this, is it an online poll? And I look, there's a lot of money to be.

made in polling, right? And like Nate. Silver was writing this up. El-Sayed was. throwing out those numbers from his. internal polling and gave people the. impression that he was going to win by. in a walk. And I I mean, barely nudged. out, right? >> Didn't happen. >> the third candidate took 4% of the vote. Uh but as you said, Harris, he won on. what? >> A nail-biter, not a double-digit. victory, but a win is a win. >> We have a major call to make on this Fox. News alert on a major race out of. Michigan that could reset.

the race for November and the balance of. power in the US Senate. Abdul El-Sayed, age 41, ran for governor 8 years ago. unsuccessfully against Gretchen Whitmer. This time, a winner against Haley. Stevens. The Associated Press has made. the call and El-Sayed now will take his. campaign head-to-head with the. Republican Mike Rogers in November and. that will be one to watch. Wow. Dana's.

So, we've been watching Michigan, and. this is the checkmark we've been waiting. for for either Stevens or Sayed. Mallory.

McMorrow dropped out of this race weeks. ago. She picked up 4% of the vote. You. see the margin? It's 1 percentage point. You just wonder, had she endorsed or not. been in at all, or dropped out some time. ago, and her name did not appear on the. ballot, maybe this would have been. different. But, here is the case now. Haley Stevens rode a wave of support on. behalf of AIPAC, upwards of 30 million. million dollars uh to take down Sayed, and Sayed has defeated that brushback.

pitch against him uh in this campaign. And we talk about Wayne County, uh you. know, she won it by six points. That's. Detroit. That's kind of where she needed. to be. Up in Oakland County, she won it. by almost seven points. Pretty. she needed to be. Macomb County, up by. 7.5 points. Where she needed to be. But, Sayed was driving up numbers in. different parts of the state. Very good. down here in Washington off for his. campaign, almost 25 points in the. victory. And out here in Grand Rapids, a.

bit of a surprise here in Kent County. He won the county by 61 points. A lot of. smaller colleges in that part of the. state. And really, this is um. well, it used to be Gerald Ford country. But, the demographics have changed in. Michigan. That's where Ford's. presidential library is. Been a hotbed. for Republicans for a long time, and. nobody knows that better than my guest. right now, Ronna McDaniel, former head. of the RNC. Ronna, what does this. victory mean? Not in a blue dot district.

in New York City, but in a purple state. of Michigan. >> Oh, I think this is going to energize. Republicans. Republicans who have been. dormant a lot in the past few midterms. have sat out midterms, have not paid. attention to the midterms, and suddenly. they are awake and aware of the threat. of the most dangerous ticket that. Democrats have ever put forward. Not. just with. Sayed Sayed we have a they have a. attorney general nominee, a Soros backed. attorney general nominee named Ally.

Savage. Their Supreme Court nominees are. radical. They are running on things like. putting violent criminals back on the. street. They have put violent criminals. back on the street. So the ticket up and. down on the Democrat side is very. dangerous and I think this might be the. shot in the arm Republicans need to. engage in a midterm where we haven't. been engaging in the past two cycles. >> Okay, Ronna, I should have mentioned. you're from Michigan so you know the. state very well. >> Yeah. >> Uh Ronna, think about this right now in. the battle for the Senate, okay? been using this in our power rankings. for some time. Keep in mind Democrats. right now they need to flip four seats. that Republicans currently hold. But one. of the seats that was leaning Democrat. was Michigan. And and like how do you look at that. right now? If this is considered maybe a. toss-up or even a lean toward. Republicans, that that makes this. challenge in Alaska, Iowa, Maine, and. Ohio so much more difficult. But just. take the Michigan case right now. If.

Mike Rogers were to take that seat from. from the Democrats they they they need. to go elsewhere in order to take control. of the Senate. It seems at the moment. that it's a much more difficult climb. How do you see it? >> I absolutely agree. I mean, Chuck. Schumer and the Democrat establishment, they were all in for Haley Stevens. She. spent $60 million on TV. Sayed spent $60. million on TV. And they wanted her to be. their nominee because this disrupts. their path to the Senate. And one other.

thing, Bill, Michigan's a straight party. ticket state. So you go vote R at the. top of the ticket or one of eight that. still employs this. This helps helps us. with the house, too, in districts like. Tom Barrett, where they elected a DSA. candidate against him last night. So, this is going to help us across the. board, not just in Michigan, but. nationwide for prospects prospects for. Republicans in these midterms. >> Mike Rogers was on the air about 2 and. 1/2 hours ago. Now, this is what his. race was against Elissa Slotkin. He.

lost, but only lost by 0.3 percentage. points. It was that close. And Ronna, many people are saying that the reason. it was that close is because of what. Donald Trump did all over in these rural. areas in the upper peninsula. Do you think Mike Rogers runs this well. in a race with Donald Trump's name not. on the ballot? >> When Donald Trump's on the ballot, more. Michiganders turn out. It's just a fact. It That's why it's harder in in the. midterms. That being said, Mike had a. competitive primary challenge last time.

He didn't. The competitive primary. challenge has been on the Dem side this. time in August. So, now they've got to. unite and try and mobilize, and let's. see if these Haley Stevens voters come. out for El Sayed. It has expanded the. Republican map on who we can reach. I. know, Bill, even in this primary, Republicans were crossing over to vote. for Haley Stevens. They were that afraid. of El Sayed. I was knocking doors over. the weekend in high-propensity. Republican areas, and they were skipping. the Republican primary altogether cuz in.

Michigan you can do that, and they were. pulling a Democrat ballot to vote for. Haley Stevens. That's how afraid of El. Sayed they were they were. So, I think. that absolutely puts Mike on the map. >> So, he has campaigned with Hasan. all right? Hasan said America. deserved 9/11. I I'm from Ohio. I I don't think Michigan's that. different from Ohio. >> No. >> I don't know how it's going to fly, but. go ahead and roll this. Sound bite. number three. Watch here.

County that I just showed and she said. there's no way I can get behind Sayed. >> Right. >> And she's Democrat now. Now yesterday we. had Debbie Dingell on. I've known Debbie. Dingell for decades. And she took a different position. She said if Sayed wins, we must get. behind him because we have to take back. the Senate. I know Debbie Dingell is a. friend of Israel.

I These are crosscurrents that I don't. think the party has seen. or experienced just yet. And we're about. to find out how it goes. How do you see. that one? >> And he barely won, Bill. You know, so. this was going to be this runaway train. and he barely won. And you know what he. did? He doubled down on his extreme. rhetoric because he brought Hassan. in to campaign with him in the closing. days. He brought this guy who said we. deserve 9/11 into campaign with him. This is who El Sayed is. I want to do a.

little cautionary tale here. Republicans. can't just say socialism or communism. We need to call these people what they. are. They are anti-America. They are. running on an agenda to get rid of our. Constitution, the socialist movement, to. get rid of the US Senate. They are. saying. Sayed has said Gaza is more important. than Detroit. Okay? This is what we have. to fight. And where he had huge wins. last night, big margins. Washtenaw. County, where University of Michigan is.

Ingham County, where Michigan State is. You mentioned Kent County, where you. know, a lot of universities are. Those. college kids are not on campus right. now. School hasn't started. So, that is. where they're going to be. And we as. Republicans can't just use platitudes. like socialism. We need to show people. how scary this ticket is.
