Her Parents Stole And Destroyed Her Financial Future | Financial Audit
hi my name is lamia I'm 24 and a half. I'm based out of San Francisco Bay area. and this is financial audit all right. what is a 24 and a half year old out of. the Bay Area do for a living. um I am a night auditor for a hotel in. the city. auditor and wool boy so you're like. going around making sure no so I settle. accounts oh oh oh yeah yeah yeah yeah. well that makes much more sense yeah no. I think it's settle accounts yeah okay. so for employed by who.
okay so it's actually by the hotel chain. gotcha and you guys are Union at the. hotel chain because you're uh showing me. that before yeah so yeah so specifically. okay I thought maybe you were like. through the city or something for a bit. but no no yeah so usually we are union. but each Hotel. especially in the city pretty much. everything's Union. um but each Hotel like in our hotel we. have two different unions that serve us. oh interesting depending on your.
department okay so what are you making. doing this how many hours a week are you. working. 40. cool what's yours. um so right now it's 30 81 but there is. a pay differential for night time. of I think it's a dollar 25. more yeah oh wait why do they need this. to be done in the night time why can't. someone do like audit the books in the. daytime. um because you have to wait.
um until everything has been posted for. the day so that means any incidental. charges room service everything it can't. just be reviewed like six hours later no. oh okay because like so some of the. reports we do like you have to do it. once everything closes for the day and. then there's also certain aspects of. like. depending on like you know early. checkouts we don't know if somebody's. checking out early until late enough in. the day you know some people are like oh.
I'm gonna check out tonight instead of. tomorrow okay gotcha okay so income what. would you say that is on average that. hits your account on a monthly basis. um so on average it's 4 200 a month yes. okay but I did just uh receive a little. bit of a promotion. um so I am the lead night auditor there. you go at my location. and so but that has to go through Union. red tape so I don't know when that will. kick him but it'll be an extra dollar. fifty an hour.
okay so I won't move the needle too much. what will that bring it to I would just. 43 40 43 44 but I would just leave it at. 42 and then whatever extra obviously. because we don't even know when it's. going to come in right okay so. did your 24. yeah all the potentials did. you end up in so much debt already. um did you just like exit the womb and. start swiping cards. no. um. you would think so but no I was thinking.
so so kind of what happened is like I. turned 18. and surprise surprise I found out I. already had collections. um. yeah. apparently my my dad had taken me to get. like dental work done and then didn't. pay for it. and then didn't say anything didn't say. he didn't pay for it nothing you can.
tell I was 18 and uh I was finding it. hard to get a checking account yeah but. why was it assigned to the kid and not. him. I don't know I don't know if it's. because he only put my name on all the. documents did he only put your name on. all the documents have you contacted. them have you talked to them I I I. negotiated it so I when I was 18 pretty. much my first couple paychecks it was. like I negotiated to like half so it was. like 1200. that's a fun birthday present. yeah so because and the only reason I.
found out I never would have found out. except for my mom was like okay you're. 18. you need to get a checking account. you need. to you know since you're I cash flowed. most of college and I went to Community. College so. um. the. she said since you're not building. credit that way then you need to open. just a small credit card and the classic. credit building mechanism yeah going to.
college okay. um and so you need to do the credit card. and then you just pay it off each month. whatever little nonsense not bad advice. overall right so we're not gonna like. her by the end of this either. um so. I paid off Collections and then for a. while we were doing okay debt wise I. didn't have any because I didn't have. any bills. um okay.
and. um then the pandemic hit and right. before the pandemic hit my dad got into. a car accident uh really bad uh he broke. his spine in two places oh my goodness. yeah it was really bad. um and of course it was right at the. beginning so it was hard for him to even. get medical care and to get all the. legal things sorted out because he was. not at fault. of course in between that you know he. wasn't really paying bills anyway.
um are your parents were they together. and are they together uh they're. together. um in a sense. um together financially oh hell no. um last I talked to them and and that'll. come later but like last I talked to. them my dad hadn't contributed to. anything since like last October so my. mom's been single-handed like keeping. the house afloat okay but his situation. now how is his health his health is fun.
his physical health is fine his physical. health is okay so he's able to work. again oh yeah no he's been back to work. no you're suggesting something else yeah. so he has had a bad habit of whenever he. can get out of responsibility he'll do. it growing up so like once I got a job. and I turned 18. um on a fairly regular basis I'd wake up. in the middle of the night to him go. into my purse because he would take my. card oh because the world right because.
it's disgusting so because the lights. would get turned off and then my mom. would be understandably upset because. it's like you're only in charge of the. light bill like what the hell. and then uh obviously he didn't have. money for it because I don't know what. he spent his money on and he you know. when I wake up and I'd catch him and be. like what are you doing he's like well. you don't want Mom to be angry with you. do you and I'm like oh what a disgusting.
you know that's abusive right to be very. clear not physically but that is a form. of abuse it's Financial abuse and. emotional as well yeah. um where yeah that's that's that's where. the PTSD comes in. um and to be honest that's like the. lesser of evils. um so anyway so then. uh we come out of that and then we hit. the pandemic and everything shuts down. my dad no longer works and then now he.
smokes so then I'm expected to fund the. cigarettes. even though I'm no longer working uh. because I got laid off. but he's not getting unemployment checks. because somebody didn't believe in paid. taxes or you know doing his due. diligence his fault right and no offense. I don't really feel bad for that but. yeah so uh on on this like idea that. like once everything settled I would get.
paid back I knew I was never going to. see that money yeah for the dental no. for for cigarette cards oh whatever. whatever so why did you start going into. that well I had to put so. I had to. as part of my contribution to the house. I had to put my cards on my siblings. Xboxes what is this what is this. household why'd you not move out I know.
it's it's so much easier said than done. um what the I know it's really bad. um I at the time I was still so you know. it's bad when like your 16 year old. friends who are never over because you. never want them over. um are like. hey something's wrong like you should. probably move out. and there was an attempt to move out. when I was 18 and then I got talked out. of it and the Reason by the fam yes the.
reasoning being it didn't mean that. emotional right like hey if people are. trying to isolate you from your family. like that's not a good sign that means. they're trying to control you and I'm 18. and I don't know that uh we're just. weaponizing like therapy doc. and. um anyway so I have to put my cards down. um and then. I got my driver's license and that was. fun. um I my grandpa showed me how to drive.
um he had a Subaru. and that he never used anymore. um and so my mom said hey. I can negotiate a deal for you I'll get. you a good deal on the car. do your grandpa. and in exchange your dad needs to be. able to use the car to take himself to. doctor's appointments. and whatever and so I didn't know. um. I so I paid it right I used I had saved. up my stimulus checks it was 3 500 and I.
cashed it and that's fine and then I had. also won money prior to that and all of. that went to it I didn't even have it. for an hour but okay yeah so anyway so. this car I didn't realize that what it. would mean is I would be paying for. everything. like my dad was the only only one using. it though so when we put it I didn't. know what a lien was so when we got the.
transfer to title my mom put a lien on. the car which will bite her later but. so anyway I didn't realize that. basically it meant my dad could take off. whenever and do whatever he wanted and. then I would be responsible for the oil. changes the brakes I had to do the. hundred thousand miles would you find. out that he was just taking advantage of. the situation pretty quickly right yeah. so that's when we look for an apartment. or we move in with the friends. do not get me wrong I'm not gonna even. come close to shaming you for not moving.
out and getting out of a bad situation. but more so I'm just trying to. understand like. why do you think was it the continued. talking out well no so basically at that. point I figured out oh my God. something's wrong in this house yeah. um and everybody seems to think it's me. and. um. for what it's worth only hearing your. side of story right right but yeah. um and there's only so much time so.
I anyway so part of the problem was I. had just spent my entire savings on this. car and we are still 20 20. so I have. not gone back to work full time yet. because at the time I was working for a. school I was a teaching aide. and I was only working part-time I was. not making enough money. to move out I needed to wait until we. went back in person. so then I would have full-time wages oh.
where are we heading what what is this. okay so why why does this debt exist. um does that exist because I moved out. with debt and then I couldn't afford my. bills. um so I had to take out more debt and. then I got into a car accident and you. got into a car accident yes oh yeah. right so I got into into a car accident. my grandpa helped me and helped. purchased a new car because he didn't so.
we got the money that obviously the. check was in my mom's name we're heading. down another Rabbit Hole I wanna I just. I want to stay focused yeah. so anyway so he helped me so I owed him. five grand okay on top of the debt I. already had. at that time already and uh. I had already lost the job because the. condition was. I couldn't do delivery and I had. switched positions in addition with. Grandpa papa papa yeah in order to him.
what why because yes and because my dad. got into an accident driving not. unreasonable not only yeah but your dad. sounds like a dump. yeah um so that was part of the. condition so I defined a new job so I. found a new job. um and uh. my mom basically decided that she needed. to be involved in every aspect and said. like sort of I wish I could. um that's what we're working on in. therapy. um and so basically I she's like what.
are you paying your grandfather each. month what are you and like hounded me. and was like you know your thoughtless. Reckless selfish all of these things and. your grandpa thinks so too. and oh gross this is manipulate this is. so gross okay I want you here quiet for. a second. God one second one second one second one. second I wanna I wanna do this thing for. you off. clip that audio and just play it for her. every time she's being an absolute.
stupid I know okay I know. if you can't say it I'll say it for you. yeah I'm this this it's so much easier. said than done and there's no shame on. your behalf not even close for not. dealing with situations because when in. this it sounds like a whole Cesspool of. emotional manipulation all this stuff so. you're not at fault for that you're not. at fault verb I'm not pushing back on. that and I'm glad you're in therapy. that's fantastic but take.
I just I need you to stand up for. yourself now immediately you haven't. even talked about your documents yet and. we'll get there but off the bat. immediately I know just from the history. the history from only your side but the. history dude I need you to stand up for. yourself yeah so you'll be proud of. working with that with your therapist. but stand up for yourself and tell it up. yeah so I recently told my dad stop uh. so you'll be proud um he wanted me to. delay graduation I'm supposed to. graduate in May 25th absolutely off.
yeah and he so I could loan him money. you should be ashamed of yourself that's. disgusting yeah so anyway so then she. basically implied that like my grandpa.
felt I was ungrateful and I already felt. so guilty for getting in the car crash. anyway and so I ended up. uh I didn't realize it at the time but I. wasn't making enough to live anyway. again with this new job but she's like. what are we talking about with the car. to pay back the car I had gotten the new. job I didn't realize at the time. that I wasn't making I wasn't going to. make enough to live okay so essentially. you've just never made enough money oh. yeah so I mean yes it sounds like. there's been a lot and a lot of things.
have been a play in getting you know run. by other people but I will say again. we're only here in your side and it do. you take response personal. responsibility for anything. um I certainly think that not all of the. purchases that were made were. necessarily necessary there you go. because trust me this. 1940 is not you're laughing I wouldn't. be laughing I'm not this is this is. cringy and I don't know what else to do. because we're Uber eating and Uber.
eating in Jollibee Union at Starbucks. and Taco Bell and apple bill in Weston. that's work. your paying work I think work pays you. no yeah um shopping there well so a. little snack well so usually meals are. provided the problem is I can't eat pork. and so when it was pork downstairs we. get a discount but I had to and you. don't know in advance. this is for credit card people only if. you're not a credit card person close.
your ears people always ask me what. credit cards do I use personally or what. credit cards should they use in specific. instances I've partnered with card. ratings to create specific lists of good. credit cards based on specific. situations so we have the best no annual. fee credit cards the best travel credit. cards the best secured credit cards and. the best credit cards for people who. have no existing credit so to check out. those lists that we've specifically. curated head down to the description. below. not really well okay. uh but.
left in Mickey D's a new breeds that's. 100 necessary I don't think we can blame. pork on that and Starbucks and the union. thing again another Apple Bill and some. beans and getting photography done and. getting photography done and baobao and. some Rapid Rewards thing. you did so like dude yeah no offense yes. a lot has been then a lot has been out. of your control. but if there's if there's a thousand.
seven hundred dollars on a card that you. cannot fully pay off and you've. oh yeah and you're losing 43 of interest. on it on a monthly basis do we go. purchase 682 on both that we do not need. no I don't think so so not you're right. there's a lot of and there is a big. story and situation and I sympathize. with that you have no idea how much I. sympathize with that but guess what. yeah a lot a lot of.
stains too no just staying in the. situation staying in the situation. getting out of it from right here right. now the past is the past it is up to you. and your path forward in the path. forward that you are choosing is Uber. Eats and instead of paying off. your card yeah. no not wise choices on my end. um especially with that card so why are. you we're eating so much what are we. doing I. would go out with a family friend.
um who doesn't know about the situation. doesn't know what went on in my house. and I don't know. uh then she probably won't she doesn't. watch this but um. she she doesn't know so like I don't. you know I I'm going to push forward and. rather than us going to dinner like. let's go on a walk to like a trail or. something and then you get ubereats the. ubereats that was just impulse I'm.
having a moment and but like all the. other restaurants like we went there you. know what I mean have you discussed in. therapeutic therapist of how okay we're. having a moment some of our coping. mechanism is spending money that we. don't have has that been a conversation. that's been happening. um so fairly recently. um we did bring it up. um and you don't have to tell us any. details of what's happening in those. private conversations either but if you. want to know about that you can um I. mean I mean we've definitely talked. about it. um. I you know some of them.
came after like really bad moments and. then it was just like man if I don't. just have like a quesadilla you know. what I mean sometimes the debt gets so. overwhelming easiest thing to make in. the world is a case of India so good. with cheese and tortilla I don't I don't. have access to a kitchen. you don't have a microwave you plug it. into the wall right so I have I have. access to like a microwave and so that. has been Villas dilla's all cheesed up.
and ready to go yeah yeah something. about getting it from like Taco Bell too. something about spending that 30 bucks. yeah to get up. 30 minute old yeah that's not even warm. that card yeah that card is definitely. um one that I did not use wisely 235 000. of Interest loss this year so far down. this card added 27.24 variable interest. meaning as interest rates continue to go. up if they continue to. right.
it doesn't get better from here. what does get better is you hitting the. Subscribe subscribe button because we're. trying to get the 750 000 subscribers. thank you to everyone who has subscribed. so far I'm surprised you're not there. yet unfortunately back to the. unpleasantries now shall we yeah yeah. 5219.59 so. [Music]. 70 so that's that's the pavement yeah. that's a payment plan thing I think. that's right.
a good payment it was the minimum. monthly payment yeah but you were making. purchases 216 uh sorry 216 minimum. monthly payment new purchase is 62. no I think wait. I think the the. dude I think the fees might be without. looking further into this you're over. the best the balance by. 119.59 why are we purchasing 62 dollars. of. Ramen taquitos into words okay where are.
we purchase. we got 11 hours of gas no Safeway was. the grocery store oh Safeway's a grocery. store yeah I don't think we have that. here I don't know I thought it was yes I. think it's like you're like I think your. vision would be like Kroger's or it's. like an HEB. still dude it doesn't make sense I know. dude you're at the credit limit you can. only make the minimum monthly payment. you're losing 120 of interest on it and. we get stupid Ramen and Uber.
Eats for 26 dollars for an old like. hardened. non-melted quesadilla come on what are. we doing yeah. um yeah yeah yeah so that's some fees. yeah yeah and a plan fee Ticketmaster is. that some finance and an annual. membership fee decided to hit 114 of. fees this year so far with 825 of. Interest lost I know it's brutal yeah.
it's brutal trust me listen what do you. mean trust you you're the one spending. it yeah I you know I had a conversation. right before this where I wasn't upset. at a dude for his dad because guess what. he was paying it off he was relatively. budgeting you know we cleaned it up a. little but he wasn't spending on the. cards you're over here spending Ramen. and getting overeeds trust you trust you. what trust you no trust you do trust you. I know. um it. I look at these numbers. daily it's become an obsession if you're.
looking at it why are you spending I. because sometimes I just I don't have. I don't have the strength not to. sometimes sometimes it's just hard okay. we don't have the strength yeah we. realize we don't have the strength. congratulations we cut it up and we take. it off of our uh Apple pay and whatever. else yeah it doesn't exist we're not a. credit card person we try to close every. single account that we can yeah you have. no access to paying for it if we.
recognize that oh my goodness if there. is alcohol in the room I will glug on it. I will glug on it if we recognize that. then we make sure we don't go into the. bar right we make sure that we don't. live in a house with cabinets stuffed. with alcohol yeah don't have access to. these cards that you just you will not. ever pay off in the scenario you're. above the limit you can't do it I know. okay I know okay.
so on this Capital One Quicksilver card. one thousand nine hundred eighty five. dollars is owed we started with a. thousand eight hundred forty six so. we've only gone up oh guess what we're. 15 away from it being maxed out with 46. dollars of Interest being accrued 117 of. purchases so we're back to the purchases. after only a 25 payment new minimum. monthly payment sixty six dollars that's. already been made so the balance is. different listen I love the nugs don't. get me wrong as far as the fast food. restaurants go there my favorite nugs. but Wendy's Wendy's Wendy's Wendy's.
Wendy's. yeah and this Union thing again in this. uh. I don't know Union Union oh Union City. maybe that's uh dollar B that's just the. location okay and then oop for eating 40. represents again again okay yeah we've. deleted we've made the points yeah it's. so easy to re-download it though there. needs to be like some like rules there. needs to be a thing where someone could. be like I'm an ubereats addict and. parental control yeah parental control.
that a friend that a trusted friend like. they have the code and you can only. download it if they give you the code. yeah it just did you just open this. because interest charge I mean. it's only the the recent charge is your. interest this is your card and then you. maxed it out immediately no this is from. October of last year it's just interest. just started to accrue though. um well for the most part this one I. because I had just opened it up.
this will come into play later with the. braces. um but I had opened it thinking oh I can. put I need a down payment on my braces. because they were cash. down payment so it but it didn't end up. comments I know I know it didn't matter. because he wouldn't take it anyway so so. this is relatively low balance. for most that's why there's only so much. interest as I've only I've. haven't had this card long and I totally.
decided to Wendy's Wendy's Wendy's. Wendy's Wendy's Wendy's yeah until we. decided Wendy's. Bay Area known for no other food than. Wendy's. um. yeah. I just I do love the nugs Wendy's. Wendy's is convenient during the Texas. apocalyptic storm where people actually. died the winter storm the only place. that opened after a few days was Wendy's. so me and my friends staying with me. because I I had electricity and power I. was very lucky we went in a three two to. three hour long drive through of Wendy's.
so when do you save the day when did. Wendy's open books do you guys have. Waffle House do you guys have Waffle. House I don't know oh we have Waffle. House I'm sure. oh no drive-throughs no no during the. winter storm I don't know if you heard. even the wall even the Waffle House dude. people couldn't get places oh everything. was closed oh yeah everything because it. wasn't a song right I heard people were. dying meanwhile but Wendy's opening. somebody was in Cancun. and. we're at a 30 interest rate yeah do you.
have this one do you have oh no we're on. the Visa okay. I just want to make sure you have the. Amazon right yeah okay so yeah Wells. Fargo. this one this one is the one right now. that I am. this has been what I have worked on oh. you have you made a 2050 minerals again. we're making payments we're making. payments we're not purchasing so the. reason the so the re this one was.
because. um reason we're ubering and we're campus. store and we're appleing so campus. stores my books for this semester and. then I paid it right back I know. brainworm Uber was because my car was in. the shop so I had to go get my car uh. as we have learned here on the show for. reasons I will not tell you I recommend. car insurance where you get rental cars. yeah I don't know how eligible I am. because I'm not quite 25. oh fair enough. 28 of Interest.
52 dollars of purchases again. but and but you did make a good uh. payment you brought it down to a. thousand four hundred twenty eight from. 3610 we can definitely celebrate that no. more purchasing it doesn't make sense. yeah like yes okay you had to Uber in. that situation that's okay I'm not. against that okay congratulations we. probably uh first of all actually have. public transportation there so I'll. probably use that and second of all come. on so I did no I did use public transit. but the problem was there's no Transit. so I used to train to get from one city.
to another and then I needed to use an. Uber because. there it doesn't run by my house at all. in the Bay Area it doesn't I know this. is everywhere usually yes in where I'm. at it's it's off the main line to where. I'm sure it'd be a 40 minute it doesn't. have to go oh I was gonna say okay. 375 of Interest lost this year so far in. this card yeah. what is this citizens that's my student. loan. oh private.
so I wasn't allowed to go to the federal. government. because before you're 24 you have to. have a parent's social security number. and I assume they have them and they. wouldn't nobody wanted to call well so. they'll take all your money but you. can't utilize them at all right so I so. so this some this year so that was just. for last year this year I was able to. apply for FAFSA you said you were a cash.
flow in school you told me at the. beginning right so I cash flowed that. and then I needed this but then for what. the last year so 75 of my college is. paid for it's done I already paid for it. without the loan how many years did you. cash for this goal well I've been in. school six years oh I cash load. for so long. well the first four I was living at home. and in that situation yeah okay okay but.
even still okay you're doing so cool. right so I cash flowed the community. college and then I couldn't I just. couldn't with what I was I already. couldn't make the bills why have we been. in school so long. well I couldn't I had a rough time. passing things when I was living at home. yeah. um and that's fair what are you trying. to study I'm actually in Hospitality. management makes sense and so now I'm. I'm set to graduate in May which is. exciting and this my senior year is. already paid for I was able to apply for.
FAFSA and they're covering everything so. this is the only student loan I will. need that's fair shout out to course. careers for Tech certifications I like. them but obviously you're not in that. but I'm not I'm not a tech unfortunately. I love giving them a little love because. I've seen people that have like gotten. their certifications and then have made. lots of money since no I definitely. believe in certification yeah but. obviously for your situation it makes. sense to do the monies monies monies. and I've been I don't know what the. money is but I've been so the payments. and I didn't pick deferment I've been.
paying on it from the jump so I like I. bought like there was an option but then. they were like it's still accruing. interest rate on this uh right now eight. percent cool. yeah it's on the content then you're. borrowing how much to do this next year. nothing I thought you said I did FAFSA. so it's that's the government Aid so. it's still money you're borrowing it's. grant money you got a grant yeah oh for. the full amount oh very good so you.
didn't take out a federal student loan. correct lovely eight percent though yeah. it can so according to the contract. thing it can fluctuate between 8 and 11. but it's been at eight this whole time. now Amazon card this is a card you ever. held a balance on because you certainly. really don't ish anymore. I I don't hold the balance usually on. this one usually I use so like in this. case it says five dollars the balance is. actually zero yeah so you paid off every. month okay cool yeah so we had one two.
three four five six Amazon purchases who. knows if their needs are not so I can. actually tell you I can actually tell. you so all the digital purchases those. are textbooks. okay so it was easier to and cheaper to. get the five percent I usually don't. hold the balance on this so that's the. person with uh. uh fees charge thirty dollars and total. interest charge since you're so far. eight dollars 81 cents. usually. if we ever if we ever pay interest once.
we are not a credit card person and as. easy as that is as simple as that there. is no if answer buts yeah you paid. interest even if you did it this month. you paid interest you're not a credit. card person chop them up close the. accounts I don't care pay them off. doesn't matter yeah. okay and then we already went over. student loans. is there any other debt I don't think so. yes braces oh. okay balance uh as of now I just made a. payment so as of now the balance is. uh minus 450 is 8050.
I had to pay 15 grand. because they had to. um. part of the reason for getting them is. it wasn't purely cosmetic I have lockjaw. and so they had to break my jaw. and it sounds fun so it would fit right. in in my mouth so it would stop like. when I would eat it would get stuck or. like I went to the dentist one time for.
a root canal and by the end of it he had. to it had come out he had. um I know it's yeah so yeah I need to. get a I got a little tooth thing here. and I'm definitely take care of it. um so yeah so that's that's where that. sounds scary but because it's cash only. I treat it less like debt and more like. a contractor. because there's no interest rate on this. no what's the minimum monthly payment. 450. okay.
um I treat it more like a contractor. where I don't want to pay this off early. yeah because I as the job gets done sure. no that's fine okay. 327 in a checking account eight thousand. dollars came in eight thousand dollars. left more than eight thousand dollars. that you left your balance was lower. than when it started at 462. so. it's a little scary low for a checking. account balance because if we have. things hit and then boom overdraft don't. want they don't have auto pay on. anything though for the most anything at. all not even credit cards careful. careful oh I remember monthly payments.
careful just make sure you're managing. it well so we've had people who've tried. to do that and then they've you know. missed and then the guy oh I should show. you my budget. you have a budget I have a budget. I know it doesn't have a bunch of 12.5. percent spent on both food into an. ubereats every single second of your. life and two percent going to different. subscriptions uh miscellaneous BS all. the extra crap. 522.18.7 of your spending yeah so I have. a budget she says I do I promise.
I brought it with me I printed it I. brought it with me is it a break. Caleb Hammer's heart budget. no. uh we just don't follow no so it's one. so unfortunately uh I recently so before. I was. using one of these. well and and so there's the ramblings of. a Madman in here. um and then it became difficult to. remember what I had paid for and what I.
hadn't and so then I started I got a fun. spreadsheet it was the best five to five. dollars I've ever spent and basically. what the spreadsheet does. is it will track it so then I put in the. date that I did it and if there's a. check box and then each time you pay for. something like you know you pay off the. debt if like the minimum payment you'd. get a little treat that grows above it. it's very nice okay I like trees. whatever I'll take a look at it I don't.
believe in this budget existing I think. it's a fairy tale uh-huh just based on. what we've seen so whatever we're going. to Michael's stores and we're paying for. Netflix and we have ATM which are all to. 450 000 those were that one who knows. zelyn knows 850 we have a roommate I. don't know that we're also paying my. rent 850 is my rent we're uh going to. Walnut Creek Ford we had a car issue. that was the car issue that sucks I mean. that happens uh zelling out another 800. 50 is that twice a month no so what. happened was it happened it hit I was. like oh my God I don't know how much.
this is going to be. and then I asked her to send to give it. back to me. and then I paid her once I knew what the. price we have a little bit more on our. checking account so you already made up. for them okay. Discovery paying for Discovery yes I've. already canceled that one everybody. canceled Netflix really doesn't have. anything in anymore I canceled Netflix. too Spotify we can listen to ads it's. probably so I can't cancel Spotify why. because I'm not the only one on it. why are you paying for it what's on it.
my brother okay he can pay for it he's. 14. oh why is this parents not taking care. of it he can listen to ads too I don't. care he's 14. I know. um it's not so Ring Ring Hey brother I'm. dying right now and I want to be able to. retire at some point and not die in the. Walmart for when I'm 90 because I can't. afford to pay rent this month guess what. brother you're gonna pay you're gonna. listen to ads for like. a year and you'll be okay love ya.
so I can't I can't afford for them to. know. oh but what they can't they can't know. right they don't know they don't know. that you're doing bad yeah well I'm. sorry but I I get that that's mostly. charged but. um the average American is doing really. poorly financially speaking I don't. think it'd be an overall surprise and. also you could just say like I'm taking. a break because whatever it's not it's.
whatever excuse the the the the 25 for. the Hulu and the Spotify. is not it's not worth. the the the conflict that would come. with it conflicts from the brother from. the parents from my parents it's just. it's not people well like at some point. I hope to be strong enough but like at a. certain point it becomes like okay well. I pay this 25. and it saves me X number of sessions.
down the line oh at a certain point I'm. not the person to diagnosis but I'm just. bring it up as a topic at a certain. point there have been many people and I. do not want this for the average person. not even close but there are certain. points where people just. block their parents and they move on so. so that's that that is on the agenda. um it feels easier like a more clean. separation without all of the nightmare. that comes with being like hey what the. guys uh once I graduate because I.
have already let my whole family know. that I plan to work abroad. um and live abroad uh the part they. don't know is I'm not coming back. uh you don't know that I mean you have. no plan to come back but you you never. really right so. um maybe you're gonna miss that Wendy's. not good. yeah maybe uh not not as much as I won't. miss the uh emotional and financial. abuse for sure of course not but trust. me you can live in the United States and.
in the Bay Area metropolitan area with. millions of people without them. breathing down your neck there's ways. yeah that there's ways but against. living abroad either I'm just I'm just. saying like I definitely I definitely. see and this is a very emotionally. charged topic this is something that. weighs down on you and you're like uh. immediately go to the like okay. other side of the world so much easier. well yeah honestly you have more options. than that though it it certainly doesn't. feel like it um none of my none of the.
rest of the family knows what went on in. that house. um and they still don't know and they. still think that I mean nobody has a. high opinion of my father because he's. just too blatant. um. but but with with my mother everybody. thinks she's. still this like super amazing person and. in all fairness when she feels like. being amazing she's amazing. um and I don't want I don't want to be. responsible.
I don't I don't want them to know so I. don't I don't want them to I don't want. to be responsible for potentially. causing Rifts in the family and it's. easier if I just remove myself and I. can't do that if I'm living here because. then it's like why don't you come over. and why don't you do all these things. and then I have to be like well no I get. that too but that's where there is like. the clear separation of like. some people just remove the toxic people. from their lives and in the most. unfortunate extreme circumstances that. sometimes that is family sometimes that. involves blocking and yeah well the.
problem is if I remove the toxic people. I have to remove everybody else too. um so. because it's her family. okay so it's just not the 25 is just. it's worth it to consider it a payment. for therapy I don't have a copay for. therapy. that's good I got insurance to work yeah. I mean I was having to pay for it. up until.
uh. up until this last month. but now my union dues are my only. contribution to that oh gotcha now. saving 610 million 610 left and that was. it yeah usually with that savings. account so I did open a high yield. that's good there's nothing in it yet. because my first like how it works at. the beginning of the month is like all. of like my money goes to like various.
Bills first. um and then I was really excited before. my car broke down. um I thought I was gonna be able to pay. this card off I will actually be able to. pay off the Visa the the Wells Fargo. Visa by the end that will be paid off by. the end of this month your rent. I forgot that price what was it 8.50 and. all utilities plus Internet combined. included in the rent oh. really yes. yeah that is.
wow bare area all right well so I'm I'm. I rent a room. so it's not like an apartment I rent a. room from a family uh who purchased. their house so they're already paid. house hacking yes so are you a good. um uh get along with them all and. everything's all good oh yeah no they're. super nice uh whenever they have parties. and stuff they bring me cake that's. really cool actually yeah. they get along well with my cat. because I've got one of those.
here's my best bud. also your best bud is one thousand one. hundred seventy four dollars of minimum. monthly payments to debts. um you you're their best bud but you. hate them I hope and I'm not I'm. definitely not the biggest fan. car insurance. car insurance is 207 a month it was not. originally it was originally 125 but. with my new policy update with the new.
job new commute mileage. um and. I love my car gas. I budget fifty dollars a week so on the. month where there's four weeks it's 200. and then on a month where there's five. weeks it's 250 but that goes up with. obviously getting an extra paycheck yeah. we'll uh that's true we'll call it 250. just for the sake of gas prices are. going higher right now anyway yeah Saudi. Arabia and Russia oil supplies so.
I love Market manipulation yeah what. other minimum my phone is fifty dollars. a month. where is my did I not I I know I printed. it out your budget this so-called budget. that you certainly have not followed. [Music]. that's where it belongs. so as soon as I got something or.
August. so we have the braces. that was under debt yeah I did all your. debts Okay add it up student loan. tall. huh painful tools yeah you have to the. bridge okay yeah how much uh it's so I. don't get to pick which is super fun. um. 150 gets pulled every month.
so that's your budget that's what you've. done for yourself as well yeah let me. see your budget and then for food okay. so yeah well. this is August so how do you how do you. what how do you do the food situation. because you don't have a kitchen but you. kind of do in the house how do you do. food. um so typically what I've been doing. um well back when I was talking that. other job I did a cup of soups for weeks. on end and that didn't go so well for me. health-wise yeah I know.
um but now five days a week because I. work five days a week everything is. provided to the cafeteria so I just got. to work early have lunch and then on my. lunch break have dinner and then I go. home and go to bed. you said you work a little over 40 hours. a week right yeah what are you doing the. rest of the time. um so I usually sleep and then I'm.
taking six courses currently but you. just you don't you don't need nutrition. during those times. no I don't get hungry until I I guess. um and then on my weekends yes. um so I way back when had a fun trip to. Costco. um and I think it's somewhere in my. check and think but I also did Target. run. I budget a hundred dollars. um for a month for food.
um so I bought these rice bowls and I. got frozen vegetables. um and so I've been jewelry rigging. fried rice without the egg unfortunately. uh they had eggs the best part but it's. also most expensive rip. um and then I also do like mashed. potatoes or I do okay so you're able to. prepare food in a microwave yeah what. I'm gonna allow and you said 100 a month. is what you're giving yourself yeah okay.
I'm gonna give you 200 a month well. because I'm only responsible for 16. meals all I'm saying is I get that but. I mean I'm trusting what you're saying I. just don't want you to go hungry in any. situation when you're not at work and. you're doing some of the school stuff so. if that involves just having a snack. like a protein bar that you can have or. something like that like okay we're not. depriving ourselves that's not the. purpose of any of this that's you know. we're trying to get to a certain point. yeah financially speaking but if we get.
there and we're like dying of lack of. nutrition there's no point of even. getting there yeah then I'm gonna give. you 100 a month this is for like toilet. paper and just makeup or whatever it'll. go to cat stuff but cat fund okey-dokey. it'll it'll be food and litter. which thankfully I don't need for the. month of September or October anything. else last call I'm adding up the budget. um. no because you counted yeah everything's.
counted towards deaths all right you. need. three thousand dollars to survive in. four dollars now you said you're gonna. pay off that card to uh this month I. want you to do that. you're like that doesn't make any sense. well guess what it kind of does because. too many things have happened where. you're just you're you're not in control. in your life too many things one of the. things that can help prevent you from. when life comes at you and just. and then you're able to take more.
control is by having a little bit of an. emergency funnel lease I want to get you. to six months eventually but what we're. gonna do for. basically three months with the 1 200. you have left over on a monthly basis. you're saving up your minimum three. payments on everything and you're saving. up three thousand dollars three thousand. dollars set in a higher savings account. boom you have enough to survive for. three months or for one month if. anything goes wrong. yeah I know that's hard you want to get. rid of it I get it it's it's just this. gives you more control though trust me. so we I've had situations uh earlier on.
the show I haven't had one in a while. people who followed like um the Ramsay. method and there's nothing you know to. be honest I'm not even following that. well either way they do the thousand. dollars which hasn't changed since the. 90s and he's tried to come up with. reasons why that hasn't changed and it's. kind of made sense but what hasn't made. sense to many people who've tried to. follow it and then have ended up on the. show they only had a thousand dollars. saved up obviously a month to survive it. costs a lot more than that and the. emergency that exists in the world. pretty much is more than that so okay. they have a thousand hours saved up.
they're aggressively paying down debt. and then oh something happens and I'll. get right back not only are they right. back they're in a worse situation than. they were beforehand so the thousand. dollars or in your case zero dollars is. bad that is scary so this gives you. control over life so for three months. yes it sucks I get it but please do it. for your own safety lack of. risk yeah risk management so um. sorry not to interrupt. um one program that my work does do that.
I have been well I haven't been because. I haven't had the chance to I just hit. six months. um. is with PTO. we we didn't earn an insane amount of. PTL and so. it comes to point to where after you you. have to leave 40 hours in the bank. unless you use it for actual vacation. but you can cash out a week at a time. you can cash out 40 hours at a time. so you want to.
I will okay if you want to whatever it. takes to get to the three thousand. dollars in one month emergency fund as. quick as you can yeah how many hours can. you cash out. people always ask me what high yield. savings account do I use for my own. money some of you know by now it's so. far I love them it's great for my. checking account needs it's great for my. high yield savings account needs and. right now I'm getting 4.5 interest on my. monies I love that right on my money's. so if you want to get a great rate like. that on your monies just check out the.
link in the description below I have a. paid affiliate link there you can get. bonuses all the way up to 250 and I took. advantage of that and you should too. 40. that's all so you have nothing out. saved well I I just hit six months so. the first three months I made the first. 40 hours of PTO you have to leave 40. hours there yeah that's only for. vacation you can't save up more on top. of that you can you can save them have. you. I I have oh you saved up an additional. forwarding right so so actually it'll.
it'll come to 40 as of this following. paycheck so I can cash out it'll be. about 900 okay so take that and then for. two months we're saving up then we have. uh uh with a thousand two hundred. dollars you have left over after two. months you have a one month emergency. fund that's fantastic then after that. yeah you're completely right you're. killing Wells Fargo. a little over a month unless you budget. a little tighter but it's completely up. to you yeah well November yeah uh. November is a five week.
I'll actually have actually close to. 2500. Wells Fargo's dead then honestly. you're probably killing. um. Apple then Quicksilver yeah. that's kind of the same plan I kind of. came to the conclusion yeah those two. together we'll take an additional. three months. four one two three four five six months. in so six months in okay.
so now we have probably about five. thousand dollars left on the Southwest. card because you're chopping it up we. are entering month number seven no but. so that's okay so keep in mind come. January I get the second half of my. FAFSA Aid and so that's an additional.
fourteen hundred dollars that's not. paying for school. that's after school. that's money that I use for living. expenses okay so I'll have an additional. 1400. then I'll take a thousand dollars. off this southwest essentially so so. four thousand Dollars January is also a. five week month okay so four thousand. dollars is out on the Southwest now what. I'm gonna do. divide that bye see about a thousand. three hundred dollars that you have left. on a monthly basis now so it's gonna. take an additional three months yeah and.
so we're nine months in we've completed. our ninth month and Southwest has paid. off now braces and photos. were minimum monthly payment until those. are paid off you're correct on that. there's zero percent the monthly minimum. monthly payments are pretty expensive. yeah but I mean just mathematically it. it just especially with the I was. worried as far as like the braces go. because it was so much money I was like. I don't want to like pay it off and then. something goes wrong with the braces and. now it's like well this was a cash deal.
and you're done so and then in about. about another six months uh the. that's the private student loans will be. paid off yeah and then I get another. raise in January too cool so perfect so. anything that helps along this situation. I mean the raise that counter for like. extra 100 bucks a month but even still. everything and everything that like. accelerate the process further so yeah. so every 10 weeks I can cash out an. extra thousand dollars. perfect so that's 15 months you can get.
it shorter I think you can probably. bring it down closer to a year and then. what you need to do from there is do a. fully funded emergency fund which will. probably take you another. with everything you've been saying. adding on top of it maybe another six to. nine months so it's up to you yeah. although I maybe my math is wrong I. thought so it's six months of like my. what you need to survive at a minimum if. you right but once all my debt is gone. then it's gonna be about twelve thousand. dollars and you only have three thousand.
dollars saved up at that time yeah so. with the money that you have left over. at that point it's gonna take. which you'll probably have about 1500. left over so you can take an additional. six months so just be aware. I don't know if this matters but I in. about six months I'm going to need to do. that big. hundred thousand mile thing on my car. where they checked that they're like. when you hit 100 000 miles you have to. get the tune up so they check the timing.
belts and all of that. the people over there are telling me. that is true I've never done that. um but okay and I'm the one who doesn't. believe in Risk. well I just didn't know it existed this. is ignorance uh but okay casual I mean. in this situation what we didn't take. into account were minimum monthly. payments are bringing the stuff down. without you spending more your. additional raise the you're right the. three-week thing so okay all that taken. into account boom cash flow that and. then this should take uh what did we.
decide at this point so uh 12 months not. uh a year and nine months you're in nine. months total with that baked in ish this. is a rough outline because every month. you're grinding your budgeting things. are going to change and change I don't. want to give you an exact timeline of. when things are going to be paid off but. this is showing that there's a path. possible yeah and this is roughly where. it's going to be at or minus a couple. months probably yeah so. that's what I would do I'd follow this. budget tightly get those raises keep. grinding get the school and finish up. school are you done after this year.
semester whatever. um yeah I walk in May good good job and. I'm not going back good job. um. use that degree getting to even further. into Hospitality make that career make. that monies uh max out your Roth IRA. every year yeah so I have to speak to a. con a financial person about that. because if I I don't know how that works. if I plan on working and living abroad. um neither do I had to be completely.
honest yeah it'll be sitting here. investing in here but uh taking it out. um yeah there wouldn't be taxes on the. Roth you still would have to wait till a. certain age but moving it overseas I've. never had to move money overseas so yeah. yeah I've just talked to talk to some. Swiss Bankers yeah. so I think it's uh a year and nine. months ish but. not to bring out the punching gloves. again. the most recent statement here you're. sending like so much money on both and.
you said you have a budget a magical a. little budget that doesn't yeah in all. fairness the budget only attracts. check-in. so yeah where. um because at a certain point. I got scared of using real money for. things okay so well good I don't work. well no well no no I want you to think. the opposite right only using real money. for things we're cutting off the credit. cards we're closing the accounts you. can't use credit cards you're not a.
credit card person no more spending on. them no more spending I'm again there. was one car that I was at maxed out. there was another car that was above. maxed out to be very clear you head down. the path that you're currently heading. down you're in credit card debt until. you die yeah no so this is the time to. change at 24 and a half let's go we have. a future in front of us sacrifice for a. year in nine months and you can live an. amazing life yeah. good can we agree I agree any final.
thoughts and or questions I guess final. thoughts wise. um. I just like for whoever needs to hear. this like you can get out. you can get out and it might be messy. and and there might be a lot of pieces. to pick up along the way. but you can do it and you can pick those. pieces up and you can you can have a. life and you're gonna have an amazing.
one I hope so for lamia and our Hammer. Financial scores spending their budget. come on all those ubereats. when it comes to the debt over a maxed. out credit card can't be higher than. zero out of ten emergency fund there's. nothing there around 10 retirement. though there's nothing like a Roth IRA. or anything like that the pension it is. there I'll give that a 3 out of ten. because there will be something for as. long as she sticks there for a while. real estate though not a part of the. conversation right now is zero out of. ten that's gonna be a hammer Financial. score 0.5 out of 10. make sure to check.
out all the resources Linked In the. description below they are what I use or. would use in specific situations.
