hi I'm Savannah I'm 25 I'm from Austin. you brought in. 1,735 so that was like an exception. because I did take some time off took. like an extended lunch um to go to lunch. yeah to go to my roommates um white coat. ceremony so that was like so that lost. half your. pay yeah it's just you know I wanted to. be there to like support them and I was. like so you're gone for two weeks I was. that's your extended lunch no I was gone. for like I think it was like 2 hours.
instead of 30 minutes what the [ __ ] you. how do you lose half your pay from that. that doesn't make sense I you make 3600. after taxes you 3600 a month 1,800 a. paycheck. normally yeah but this was after working. almost 80 hours 76. hours oh that's what are you talking. about I'm talking about like two weeks. so that's like 80 hours a week is going. you do not work 80 hours a week do you. normally I work 80 hours a week just not. at that point that's why I had the 1735.
and then it's 1800 no this makes sense. sorry that makes sense so this is your. two we paycheck you don't work 80 hours. a week so this is your twoe paycheck so. that's not that different yeah. 1735 so in this. case. 3,470 is what you would have made this. month but usually it's closer to 3600. yes okay that makes more sense sorry no. it's all good I had a little disconnect. there I probably looked like a dummy but. that's okay no it's all good and it's. probably going to look something similar.
this month just because I did take time. off to go to the doctors so it'll. probably look similar to that too do not. have like paid no so we don't have any. pay time off um we have three days that. we can call out but we don't three days. per per year the it's a 12 Monon. contract the this is a contract yes. when's the 12 months done next month and. then what then what are you doing for a. living then I I'm currently applying the.
jobs the oh parttime so nothing's lined. up no I haven't gotten any call backs. and then even people who are trying to. come back to their contract they're not. getting any luck either great what were. you doing before this 12 months so I was. working well okay so I did last month. last year was kind of weird so it was. like I was working at a gallery while. doing part-time at school and then I. worked as an overnight stalker while I. was transitioning. transitioning okay yeah yeah trans. transitioning from the gallery to the.
new job that I have you have a degree. yes in and so I have two degrees I. graduated with Studio Art a BFA and then. a BS and radio television and film from. ET okay but that was back in 2020 okay. so then last year well okay so the end. of 2020 I guess 2022 um I went back to. school for a 6mon coding boot camp Oh. boot camps are good I mean I like. certifications stud course careers and. there's good boot camps around here. there's a lot of good things like that.
what would you do so I went for full. stack web development and I'm going. towards doing full front end web. development okay so you found that's. your passion or just that's the money. it's very competitive market right now. yeah that's the downside that when I. found out was like right on the end of. my coding beom Camp it was kind of like. oh well the Market's actually really. you're in a decent town for it but even. still it's like Yeah it's you're going. to be competing against a lot of other. people.
all. right so what is your financial. situation what what are we looking at. here today I would say it's pretty bad. so like oh okay so whenever I went to. college in the first like first time I. went to school um my parents they just. gave me like a credit card and like here. we don't want you to work um while. you're in school so we're just going to. give you a credit card and then you'll. be fine we'll help pay it off and so I. was like okay wait but the credit card. was under your name or theirs it was. under my name so they didn't give you a. credit card they convinced you to take.
out a credit card yes I guess but like. so it was me and my sibling um because. we're on one on one yeah so I have. one and it it was 300 starting off and. then it you were both on it someone was. an authorized user no they had their own. credit card so they both us so your. parents convince you both to open up. credit cards yes. okay so they were like yeah we want you. to build credit so here's a credit card.
and they said we're pay it off so we. just want yall to go to school so then. you'll be fine and even okay no offense. but this is not one credit card that. we're going through you also have like a. really stupid car debt did your parents. make you get really stupid car debt. not well okay so from that um. they pretty much had like no money so. they were just like here so well what.
does your parents having money have to. do with it it's your life you're an. adult well it's like do you blame your. parents for everything well right now. they're kind of like they didn't really. teach me anything about like come on no. one no one gets taught that in America I. mean if you're lucky you are but you. learn it yourself well they didn't even. teach you but if you're just if you're. just blaming people immediately like. what the that's just like deflection. ultimate right out of the gates well. like they didn't even tell us like I. didn't even know about the whole like oh. only have rent that's 30% of of your. income yeah me neither NE the vast.
majority of people last year yeah that's. that's how that happens but you're. blaming them now well because even right. now their situation is really crap and. who cares that's not. you like still though it's like oh my. all right okay well we'll get into. that now I know I Brandon gave us. interrogation lighting. today and they didn't even just do that. to me okay they also did it for like all.
my other siblings too so okay calm down. and then okay what well so I also have. student loan debt and I know we're going. to go through your debt their advice was. to just take out all the. loans like tuition any money they can. give me I accepted and I also did summer. school they you mean like student loan. providers yes so the government student. loans and they told that to me me my.
brother and then pretty much my other. siblings too like oh we don't have money. for college so just take out the loans. and we'll help you pay for it after. you're done with college and now that. those are back weird I would love to. hear their side of it though if they. would agree that that's exactly how that. transpired it I would say it's like not. their exact verse but definitely like. hey do the fasta do this and then we. will pay for it we will pay for they. took out the parent Plus loans and. they're like what about the ones you. took out they said they would pay for it.

PayPal credit and I was like okay great. so I applied and then I didn't hear. anything back from it and then it was. like oh well here's. $300 that you can get and I was like. okay that's kind of weird but then I. couldn't have access to it so then I. applied again and then it got me the. PayPal credit so I actually have two. PayPal accounts the PayPal card and the. PayPal credit and they said you could. get 300 for it that one the original. balance of the credit I think was like. 1,500.

okay no I mean yes I I agree with that I. think at that time I was like oh well. you know it's fine cuz then then I have. an extra credit card so then if I need. that for emergencies I'll just leave it. alone which that didn't. happen so I'm guessing I mean just from. the sounds of it now I some of the. things that you said okay correct like. if if they said go I mean they're your. parents they're who you listen to. they're just go take all the. yeah that's that's um now some of the.

I did they didn't cover anything cuz it. was per her pre-existing conditions she.
was. 16 um so each vet visit was like 275 and. then the third I went I had to put her. down so that was another like 200 to. create her um why'd you move into a. 1700 because I didn't have any money to. move anywhere else what wait what do you. mean that doesn't make sense so I didn't. have money for security deposit and my. credit score. tank and what are you saying you were. already there yeah it was really bad.
last year like early last year cuz I. wasn't able to work fulltime because I. was no no no what was the it was 7 what. was it before it was 1100 I was sharing. it with my brother so it was like split. it was like and was he staying there or. did he move out and that's how. the so you were covering the double his. portion well I moved from a two-bedroom. to a one-bedroom and that one bedroom. was 1,700 so you did move which just not. complexes I used so I kind of if you. couldn't no offense but if you couldn't.
scrap together enough for a security. deposit how how how do you think you. could afford $600 more a month in rent I. just started my new job and I was just. trying to scrape by um so but if you're. trying to scrape by it does $600 a month. more like I I'm not even saying put. things on credit cards but I would put a. security deposit on a credit card at. that point it would save money and. that's still a terrible idea but it's a. better idea than what you did okay. either way you broke the lease what's. what's your rent now. right now I only pay $8.90 um for the so.
it's more like okay what should be. around um and then I pay about $7 to. util utilities yeah and I split it with. my roommate or split so that's only my. portion so the total I think is. like it like 1,700 70 a month um between. like for both of us for. two-bedroom we'll teach you how to. budget I'm going to create a budget for. you and we're going to go through things. but you're going to go through our. budgeting class we're putting put you. through it for.

falling behind so well that's cuz of. you're spending dude that's cuz you're. spending you're trust me you in your. situation more income is not going to. solve your problems you're just going to. inflate your Lifestyles rying that I. would love you to work in this field if. this is what you want to do but that's. not what solves it it's not what solves. your problem yeah I would say it's a. combination of last year cuz other stuff. happens and then trying to adjust cat. and then well also my car what happened. the car that I have here it's it was a. different car that I was done paying off.
yeah so I only had $50 left to pay and. then the hail storm hit Austin in. September yeah and you had Insurance yes. so it totaled the car and you had. insurance I did have insurance so I did. have the insurance to make a down. payment on the car that I have now but. my credit score was tanked and I didn't. have anyone I didn't know anyone that. had to get credit what was the down. payment you got I got 8,500 Oh Me Oh My. I'm looking for a full-time job so I've. been applying to fulltime jobs but in. the meantime what jobs are you applying. to so I'm looking for um full stack. development jobs but also like frontend. web development jobs and then I also. recently applied to a QA tester job you. open to doing any kind of internships or. anything like that as well getting foot.
in the door because the Market's a bit. harder right now yeah and that's what I. was looking at too whether or not that's. something I could do because I did see a. lot of like oh well you need six to. eight years experience or you need to be. in a computer science degree I mean. obviously they want the best of the best. candidates and there is an over supply. of people in this field right now just. depending just for where the job market. is if you had a lot of experience in top. talent and AI That's where people are. shoving out money right now but that's. again that's for the people at the top. of that game it's been really. interesting to follow that market um and.
I am going to start applying I've been. mainly applying to jobs that are here in. Austin but I'm going to start looking. elsewhere and see if you might have to. go more for smaller companies that have. you know. lower pay available so like people with. that large amount of experience might. not accept the job but it allows you to. build experience in a resume and that's. kind of why I'm here too is like to. figure out. what like with the amount of Deb I have. what. can I manage or if I just need to shut.
everything down and then and you said. you've been applying for part-time jobs. yes what so Chick-fil-A Alma Draft House. since I've gone how have you not gotten. when did you apply I applied to. specifically Chick-fil-A like last this. last weekend so very recent well that's. three days ago so that's not okay well. that doesn't shock me then yeah I mean. apply for everything like that um. obviously that's not where we're hoping. to stay but you do cuz you said when. does this end again it my last day is on. the 31st oh this my last paycheck's on. the 5ifth okay um and. so yeah oh yeah cuz we'll need some. income to replace yeah h a good question.
and I've looked to if you could look. this up for me if you're on a contract. position you don't qualify for. unemployment do you because it has a. known end so I've heard but the most I. could get would be like 5 512 I think. per week and that's according to someone. that I know that just finished up their. contract and the contract requires 3. months break and there's no guarantee. they can hire me back thees Sally my for. the boot camp m $248 a month and it's a.
almost 14% just rate of and that one is. automatic payment so I haven't been late. on that I've been making the payments. because it kind of goes through yeah. until you're negative in a checking. account another spoiler. alert is this just insurance or is this. a Deb to insurance that is my. insurance and it went up 20 bucks I. think this year personal one hope yeah. this is the car that is not the car this. is not the car oh that's right that's.

obviously they they wouldn't exist. people didn't take them off but I've. never I don't think I've ever met anyone. who actually took it out that's that's. wild yeah that's wild and instead of. working more I did work two jobs at a. time how many hours I was working 50. hours but again it's like low paying. jobs that but I mean if we're just. trying to survive again and I bet you're. spending to not help yeah I was I mean. come on but I don't have access to the. documents then so I don't know for sure. but and then it was a lot of like I'd.

I'll say 60 Buck phone phone my parents. have it on a family plan so it's $35 you. give it to them yes man even if you were. on helium one of our supporters who we.
also support it's 20 bucks a month it. would save you money being on your own. with with helium that's kind of wild. unless you owe money on the phone I do. wouldn't be surprised so my phone was. stolen a couple years ago and that's why. I have the phone I have now $300 for. groceries use the meal plan we give you. in the budgeting. program $100 for your TP fund it's. anything you need to survive anything. else anything else Medical is there. anything ongoing um I go to any bills.
medical bills um I'm when I went to Labs. the second time so it might be the same. so it might be another $100 but how. often is this is there something we have. the budget for on a monthly basis where. you C no not regularly no okay. subscriptions do you still have a pet I. have a cat now okay how much on a. monthly basis the budget for so get pet. insurance so my roommate gets the kitty. litter and the food and he's kind of. like I'll take care of that you do. nothing else no okay 30 bucks for pet. insurance okay that should be it. anything else in your life Jim um no.

Credit then month number three you'll. finish Care Credit and put a bit towards. uh you're also going to take care of the. doctor so let's call that into month. three month number four where are we and. I did want to start doing therapy but I. since I yeah buet that in honestly just. so you can see the rewards of it I'm. just going yeah I'm just going um. smallest to largest honestly your. federal student loans I might just minim.
monthy payment till they're paid off so. you can start catching up on emergency. fund and um investing the fact that you. have $ Z invested at 25 is scary because. this is the best decade of your life for. compound growth in the. market yeah and by the time I 30 I. really want to be in a a lot better spot. it's going to take a it's going to take. a lot of work but I I think you can do. it let's let's just do some basic math. again yeah. you you'll use the debt payoff. calculator in our class 32 1990 okay so.
9,838 of bad debt minus that by extra. $900 you should be able to throw to it. on a monthly basis $133 months or 11. years okay but yeah 11 years sounds like. a long time and it's because it. is potential things we can do yes one I. don't want you to do there's. consolidation stuff I don't really want. you to do that cuz I think deny me for. that oh there's also that can you point. the mic towards your face just point.
it like this wait it okay yeah okay s. it's okay but in the 11 years. yes at some point and I'm going to be. guessing within the next two years. you're going to be in a job position. that you actually want to be in and. you're going to have more than $900 to. throw with this my best guess is with an. actual career that you want to go down. which might take a while to find an. actual job and might take even longer to.
get the good paying job that you expect. in that. position because you might have to. accept the lower uh salary position you. might have to do some gig work and stuff. like that um but I think in the next two. years you could at least land something. uh decent and I think realistically all. this debt could be gone in five years. okay if I like really cram at it you're. going to cram at it this is this is this. is okay. yes I to be very clear and this part. sucks because I know what it's like to.
be on the position on your side actually. my debt was not as bad as this so I. technically I don't know but um I know. what it looks like to have to work at. something for years in sacrifice this is. overwhelming right now but if you land. that better. job you have the opportunity to by the. time you're 30 have a completely. independent Amazing Life get a fully. funded fun start investing you're going. to throw 20 to 25% towards investing on. a monthly basis in in that higher salary.
field that you'll be in you're going to. retire very. comfortably iOS will sell as much stuff. as you can that you don't need including. that PayPal thing for the camera you. don't need it anymore sell the iPad pay. that off whatever you can sell that you. strictly do not need to survive do that. the car situation that's going to be. hard to finesse at this point I think. you're going to have to pay that off. yeah but sell as much as you can work as. many hours as you can once you get your. full-time job work working other job.
which is so much easier said than done. so much easier said than done cutting. everything back to zero as well but I. promise you if you do and you work to. get a job any job after this and then. work to get your career position in 5. years your life will be so insanely. different it will have been worth every. moment and I'm almost turning 30 trust. me dude I moved here when I was like 24. at these next are just going to fly by. like it's good it's not it basically. won't even exist it's very depressing um.
but it is so worth it and you do have a. really bright future in front of you you. just got to grind now reality situation. is bring it back going to give you some. tough love say you got yourself into. this debt it's your responsibility to. take care of it now and the student. loans are the biggest part of it and. even if you went through bankruptcy. you're not getting rid of that so take. care of this now I don't want your. credit to be for 10 Years anyway cuz if. you take care of this in 5 years you. might start saving up for a down payment.
