Trump SNAPS, goes for JUGULAR against Jimmy Kimmel over Melania joke
I got to say, my favorite part of living. in Trump's free speech America is that. hardly a week goes by where a comedian. isn't at imminent risk of being silenced. at the hands of the anti-censorship. right. So, the issue at risk here is a. comedy sketch that aired on Thursday. where Kimmel did a parody White House. Correspondents Dinner speech. Here are a. few clips from that show. >> Oh, look at who we have here, Stephen. Miller. Stephen Miller is so racist. The. reason he went bald is because his hair. was black. >> [laughter]. >> Stephen Miller puts the sis in white.
supremacist. He's like if baby Hitler traveled in. time to kill us. Our first lady Melania is here. Look at. Melania, so beautiful. Mrs. Trump, you. have a glow like an expectant widow. >> And in fact, it was the second clip that. the right has glommed on to wherein. they're pretending that somehow Jimmy. Kimmel making a joke about the fact that. Melania is 23 years younger than her. husband, who is almost 80, and let's be. honest, isn't the healthiest person in. the world, is somehow evidence of him.
inciting violence against Trump. This is. a dude, Donald Trump, who survives off. of McDonald's and burnt steak. I don't. think anybody right now sees Donald. Trump as a paragon of health. But, that. won't stop the right from playing. make-believe and distorting this joke. that, by the way, was told 3 days before. the dinner as if it was somehow related. to the shooting. Trump took to Truth. Social writing, "Wow, Jimmy Kimmel, who. is in no way funny as attested to by his. terrible television ratings, made a. statement on his show that is really. shocking. He showed a fake video of the.
first lady and her son Barron like they. were actually sitting in his studio. listening to him speak, which they. weren't and never would be. He then. stated, 'Our first lady Melania is here. Look at Melania, so beautiful. Mrs. Trump, you have a glow like an expectant. widow.' A day later a lunatic tried. entering the ballroom of the White House. Correspondents Dinner loaded up with a. shotgun, handgun, and many knives. He. was there for a very obvious and. sinister reason. I appreciate that so. many people are incensed by Kimmel's. despicable call to violence and normally. would not be responsive to anything that. he has said, but this is something far.
beyond the pale. Jimmy Kimmel should be. immediately fired by Disney and ABC. Thank you for your attention to this. matter, President Donald J. Trump. So, first of all, Jimmy Kimmel is a. comedian. Comedians tell jokes. You may. not like their jokes, but they're jokes. And in a country that has a First. Amendment, you risk confronting jokes. that you don't like. And if anybody. should appreciate that, it is a. right-wing movement that spent the. better part of a decade. pretending that they had a monopoly on. comedy. Remember when Elon Musk tweeted, "Make comedy legal again?" Yeah, that.
legalization of comedy still counts for. jokes that hurt your feelings. Second of. all, as I mentioned before, Kimmel is. not a psychic. He does not know if a. joke will retroactively sound like it's. in bad taste based on something that has. not happened yet. Again, his joke. suggesting Melania will be a widow is. about the fact that she's married to an. old guy, not about the fact that 3 days. in the future someone will try to shoot. her husband. And any effort to pretend. like that joke isn't exactly what it is. is nothing more than bad faith. And.
finally, Kimmel's words were not a quote. call to violence. They were a joke, a. very basic joke that the whole world. understood the premise of, except for. people who purposefully misconstrued it. so that they can feel victimized. This. is the equivalent of jumping in front of. a moving car and then pretending that. they hit you on purpose. But with all of. that said, these people are not. operating in good faith, so they're not. going to listen to good faith critiques. They actually want to be victims because. that's where they thrive. Pretending. that they're being silenced and canceled.
and censored, that is quite literally. right-wing culture, which is why it. wasn't just Trump. Even Melania weighed. in, writing, "Kimmel's hateful and. violent rhetoric is intended to divide. our country. His monologue about my. family isn't comedy. His words are. corrosive and deepens the political. sickness within America. People like. Kimmel shouldn't have the opportunity to. enter our homes each evening to spread. hate. A coward Kimmel hides behind ABC. because he knows the network will keep. running cover to protect him. Enough is. enough. It is time for ABC to take a. stand. How many times will ABC's.
leadership enable Kimmel's atrocious. behavior at the expense of our. community? Kimmel's monologue isn't comedy, she. explains, which is important because if. there's one person who I really consider. the true arbiter of all things comedy, it's Melania Trump, the woman who thinks. be best is a coherent phrase. But she. actually gives the game away here when. she appeals to ABC, very much like her. husband does, to take a stand and fire. Kimmel, following up on a now. long-standing project to to deplatform. the comedian. The White House, the FCC, the entire government has been looking.
for any excuse to silence any comedian. who dares criticize dear leader, and. this attempt is no different. As I said. before, we have a First Amendment right. in this country, and that applies even. if you're targeting a powerful. government official, and even if that. powerful government official is playing. make-believe about the true meaning of a. joke. Here's Brian Stelter explaining. the implications now for ABC News. >> So, we have the president of the United. States demanding a comic be fired, and. this is going to be a big challenge for. ABC and its parent company Disney. New.
CEO Josh D'Amaro probably in meetings. right now trying to figure out what to. do because this this right here is a big. First Amendment stress test. >> So, will ABC fold? I can't tell you, but. I can say that I wouldn't be surprised. if yet another legacy media outlet. capitulates to this president to curry. financial benefit with him. To that end, if you'd like to support independent. media that has zero pressure points when. it comes to the federal government, please subscribe to this channel. It's. 100% free and a great way to support my. work. And finally, here's Caroline.
Leavitt also throwing stones from her. own glass house. >> I think you heard it directly from the. president on Saturday night. I said that. in his words, we need to recommit. ourselves as a country to toning down. the rhetoric and to unifying around what. makes our country great. That's true of. everyone who works in this White House, but as I said, it's also true of. everyone who has a voice and a platform. across this country. I could go on and. on, but again, when you have people in. positions of power that are saying.
things like this every single day for. years, you are inspiring violence by. people who are already mentally ill. And. that's what we've seen against this. president for far too long. Now, unfortunately, it's not just the media, it is the entire Democrat party has made. their pitch to voters across the country. that Donald Trump poses an existential. threat to democracy, that he is a. fascist, >> Here's the thing. Democrats who call. Trump a fascist do so because he acts. like one. He undermines free and fair. elections, he weaponizes the government.
against his opponents, and he silences. dissenting voices. Case in point, that. is fascist behavior, period. But look, the left criticizing Trump is not the. same as inciting violence. We can both. condemn Trump's actions and behavior, which are clearly autocratic, and. condemn political violence, which is. abhorrent. They are not mutually. exclusive. I get that Trump would love. to label all criticism of him as. incitement in an effort to chill all. speech against him, but again, we have a. First Amendment right in this country.
that allows us to criticize our. government, and we should use it. That's. not dangerous or treasonous, it is. fundamentally American. It's patriotic. It is quite literally the thing that. separates us from illiberal countries. like Russia and China. When we start. self-censoring or firing comedians for. fear of offending the powerful, that is. not freedom, it is the polar opposite, which clearly is exactly why this. administration likes it. >> [music].
>> Before you go, I'm very excited to. announce that I've written a new book. titled The Day After: How to Wield Power. in a Post-Trump World. The book explores. what is, in my opinion, the single most. important theme that we're dealing with. in politics today and moving forward, power. Specifically, how Republicans. abuse it and how Democrats refuse to. wield it. This book explains how we got. here and more importantly, how we should. finally wield power if we're lucky. enough to get it back. It is the. blueprint for progressives who want to. do far more than just restore the status. quo. Please pre-order today by following.
