Trump SCREWS his party as CIVIL WAR ERUPTS | Another Day
Donald Trump shocks his own party by. refusing to sign their bipartisan. housing bill. Yep, they were simply. blindsided by his total disregard for. the American people. This is just. another day. >> [music]. >> If you're one of the millions of. Americans struggling with the housing. affordability crisis in this country, today is your lucky day. >> We have breaking news. President Trump. says he won't sign the housing. affordability bill until Congress passes. his voter ID law. >> Okay, maybe tomorrow is your lucky day.
Yes, Donald Trump, fresh off his all. hands on deck approach to catching the. villainous gnomes who scurried across. the National Mall under the cover of. dark to deface our reflecting pool, has. shocked the nation by deciding to. prioritize something else over fixing. the affordability crisis for the. American people this morning. And while. seeing Donald Trump derail any amount of. progress for our country isn't. surprising to most, some were caught off. guard. >> We saw Mike Johnson speaking about it as. if it was about to be signed this. afternoon, and while he was talking. about it, uh he learned that the. president had posted on on Trump Truth.
Social that he wasn't going to sign it. >> The stage was set in the Capitol's. Statuary Hall, but the president nixed. it just 90 minutes before the signing. ceremony. >> So, this is the moment Trump chose to. pull out at the last minute. If only the. rest of us were that lucky years ago. Let's put aside what a giant you. this is to the American people trying to. afford a home right now. Donald Trump. screwed over his own party. The. president knew that they were going to. make a big deal out of their ability to. craft this bill, and he still hung them.
out to dry, which proves that this is. not negligence or incompetence, it is, as the Beastie Boys would say, >> [music]. >> exactly. Here's Congressman French Hill. boasting about what an amazing. accomplishment this is. moments before it became dead on. arrival. >> Let's show the American people what. legislating looks like. Let's show the American people how you. bring together and do something on a. bicameral basis, and we did that, and we. did that in conjunction with President. Trump and his priorities.
>> Ugh, it is so embarrassing. This must be. what it feels like for Matt Gaetz when. he learns he paid to have sex with a. 19-year-old. Donald Trump didn't tell anyone he was. going to do this, and we know that. because just last night his own press. secretary tweeted, "Tomorrow at 12:00. p.m. on Capitol Hill, President Trump. will sign into law the 21st Century Road. to Housing Act, one of the most. significant pieces of housing. affordability legislation in American. history. Yada yada yada. President Trump. promised to lower costs, and he is. delivering, making it easy for every. family to achieve the American dream of.
homeownership. Tomorrow's historic bill. signing is another promise made, promise. kept." So, Caroline, shall we put this. in the promises broken category, or is. your plan to simply wear a distractingly. large cross at your next briefing in the. hopes that we forget about the whole. thing? Donald Trump sowed chaos on Capitol Hill. this morning over legislation that he. knows doesn't have a shot in hell at. passing. >> Trump has been making this case for. months for the Senate to pass the. so-called Save America Act, but they. have tried repeatedly in the Senate to.
do that, and they simply just do not. have the votes to pass it. John Thune. has made that case to the president. directly. He has said that publicly. Other Republican senators have said. that. Trump has come back and said, "Well, just do away with the filibuster. and try to pass it along straight party. lines." But Thune does not have the. votes to get rid of the filibuster. That. is a second problem that the Senate. Republican leader has. >> The numbers aren't there, and it's. surprising that the president can't. comprehend that simple math problem. considering what his friends have been. saying. >> If you give Donald Trump an IQ test with. the other.
45, 46 presidents that the United States. has had, I guarantee he he'd be either. near the top or at the top. >> Yeah, I'm going to go with near the top, and when I say top, I mean bottom. And when I say near, I mean all the way. at the bottom. Today is just another. example of how little Donald Trump cares. about the American people. Affordability. is a problem for all Americans across. the board. His party delivered him a. politically advantageous piece of. legislation and he still couldn't get. out of his own way. >> Look at the bipartisan numbers in the.
House and the Senate that this. legislation passed with. Overwhelmingly, right? How often does that happen? >> This housing bill was it was bipartisan. and it was seen as a way that it was. going to help out potentially young home. buyers. >> And I want to underscore message that I. got from a senior Senate Republican aide. here who said, quote, "Never in my. lifetime have I seen a president so. deliberately attempt to lose majorities. for his own. >> Wow. >> party.". >> To be fair, you could add never in my. lifetime to pretty much everything Trump. does. Never in my lifetime have I seen a.
president this openly racist. Never in. my lifetime have I seen a president be. this corrupt. Never in my lifetime have. I seen a man so openly attempt to. his daughter. But merely hours after throwing his. party into chaos, Donald Trump took his. ballroom ankles over the capital and. finally addressed the mess that he'd. made. >> Buying a home is unattainable for so. many Americans. If if this election was. so much more important to you, would. that resolve the housing crisis? >> Uh this is every election's important. We're doing very well. Uh they want a lot of communists to come.
in. I'm saying it a little bit. differently, but the people that they're. pushing are communists and this country. is not going to have communists. Thank. you very much. >> Um. what? I thought the Save America Act was. about the real election fraud that was. taking place and yet somehow still. hasn't been found, but now you're saying. that your last minute U-turn on. providing Americans with affordable. housing relief is rooted in keeping. communists out of Congress? Sorry, but. no one is going to carry that torch for. you. >> This is what we have to do to save the.
United States of America from communism. He's exactly right. >> They get me every time. My God, they are. his obedient pets. When he declares that. the water in our algae-filled reflecting. pool is still American flag blue, they. back him up and say, "It's the bluest.". When Donald Trump says jump, his. Republican colleagues say, "How high?". That's them saying how high, but with. Trump's penis in their mouths. The. reality is it is one thing for Donald. Trump to deprioritize his own campaign. goals and instead focus on building his. ostentatious ballroom, his no-bid.
contract reflecting pool, his $1 billion. free jet from Qatar, and his claimed. Destin crypto dinners. But to actively. sabotage legislation handed to him on a. silver platter that is based. specifically on what he campaigned on? >> We will open up new tracts of federal. land for large-scale housing. construction so that we can get housing. on the market. >> Housing affordability crisis. It was too. expensive to build the homes and they're. building them and they cost a fortune. >> And he gets it. I mean, at one point. Trump could barely scrape together.
enough cash to provide a little space. for his son to ride his lion in the sky. Over and over again, Trump has said that. he cares about the American people, but. when has he truly ever shown that? To. him, the presidency is nothing more than. a four-year profit-generating generating. endeavor and a chance to cement his. legacy through an assortment of. golden-leafed vanity projects with his. name plastered all over them. Trump. never actually cared about anything. related to affordability. It was always. just a shallow tactic to get votes. And. yet people still are being bewildered by.
his intent. >> at this point it it's kind of hard to. say what the the political strategy is. here. >> It's actually not. It's called cheating. Donald Trump knows that kicking millions. of people off of health care and food. assistance, implementing tariffs that. kill jobs, starting a war that drives up. costs, spending hundreds of millions of. dollars on vanity projects, and running. cover for members of a pedophile ring is. not a platform that you can run on. So. instead, he's trying to cheat his way to. victory in the midterms. The Save. America Act isn't saving anything but.
his own ass, and everybody knows it. So. now he and his sycophantic colleagues. are left with a choice. >> But the president now has a choice. Does. he veto this legislation, or does he do. nothing and just not sign it? And that's. important there. One, it passed with. veto-proof majority. So, if he does veto. it, Congress could take it up again and. pass it again. Or, if he doesn't sign. it, they have then 10 days where then. nothing happens and it would become law. >> If Donald Trump doesn't veto this bill, Republicans have to do absolutely.
nothing and it becomes law. And even. though doing nothing is definitely their. superpower, getting praise from dear. leader is their kryptonite. So, for all. their bluster about tackling. affordability and caring about the. American people, I can't wait to see. where they land. But, if recent history. is any indicator, I think it'll probably. happen. >> Never in my lifetime. >> Exactly. Before you go, I'm very excited to. announce that I've written a new book. titled The Day After: How to Wield Power. in a Post-Trump World. The book explores.
what is, in my opinion, the single most. important theme that we're dealing with. in politics today and moving forward, power. Specifically, how Republicans. abuse it and how Democrats refuse to. wield it. This book explains how we got. here and more importantly, how we should. finally wield power if we're fortunate. enough to get it back. It is the. blueprint for progressives who want to. do far more than just restore the status. quo.
