Trump’s press ban INSTANTLY BACKFIRES

I don't purport to be able to read. Trump's mind, but I can 100% guarantee. you that this is not what Trump was. expecting when he decided to implement. his ban on the free press. >> Yeah, there. this is one example of it backfiring. just a little bit. Um pick up on some of. the things Michael was saying and um. obviously the ramifications are right. here. Can't hear what the president's. saying. >> Yeah, I would probably agree that the. man who needs media attention the way. the rest of humanity needs oxygen, depriving himself of the outlets that. deliver him that attention may just. count as a bit of a backfire. But look, while I certainly believe that depriving. Trump of his precious microphones and.

precious cameras is an appropriate. consequence for his actions, let's be. clear, this is not about retaliation. This isn't a strategy or a negotiating. tactic or even a punishment. This is the. media joining together because press. freedom is fundamental in this country. and there is no other option than to. work together for all outlets to get it. back. We have a first amendment right to. a free press in the United States. Period. So, yes, the byproduct of this. move by Trump to ban the free press is.

that he's found a way to cut off his own. oxygen supply, but we don't actually. need to justify this any more than just. recognizing the fact that the. Constitution affords Americans an. assurance that the government will not. attempt to ban the free press. And look, I wish it didn't take 2 years into this. second term of an autocratic president. for the media to learn how to organize. I wish we didn't have to watch the media. outlets heap millions of dollars onto. this president to curry favor with him. I wish we didn't have to wait for the AP.

to win a lawsuit in front of a district. court judge before they were allowed. back into the White House for the crime. of calling the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf. of Mexico. But we did. Now eventually we. got here where legacy media finally. learned the value of organizing to. protect press freedom. understanding. that banning one or two or three outlets. effectively gives Donald Trump a tacit. permission structure to ban anyone who. doesn't curry favor with him. Hell, doing that gives any president any tacit.

permission structure to ban any outlet. that he or she doesn't like. So again, I. get that most people, myself included, will cheer on the fact that Trump has. effectively managed to silence himself. and how that's a pretty damn effective. strategy to get this media hound to very. quickly reverse course. But that's not. why the press is doing it. Nor should it. be why the press is doing it. The only. justification that is needed here is. that we have a fundamental first. amendment right to free press in the. United States of America. And for.

posterity for those who say that this. isn't a ban, >> I take some issue with the premise. So. he's not banning media outlets. What. he's doing is saying, "We're not going. to give you special access to the White. House if you engage in what is. effectively propaganda." I might. redirect your attention to Donald Trump. himself saying this. >> on the three news outlet sir. What does. that mean in practice? Are you taking. away their badges? Are you banning them. from the pool? Are you banning them from. the Oval Office? What does that mean? >> I still don't know what. >> you envision the ban to look like for. media outlets.

Trump deciding to cut off his ability to. communicate with the outside world is. going to bother him. So, the White House.

Trump TV, the natural conclusion for a. president who is obsessed with fawning. coverage and delivering nothing but. propaganda to the American people. But. consider here, if the press isn't there. to act as a middleman, which is Trump's. hope in all of this, well, you just have. to take his word for it when he claims. that we're winning the war with Iran, that we're taking in $18 trillion in new. investments, that the US is in its. golden age, that ICE was justified in. its shootings because their lives were.

being threatened by people like Renee. Good and Alex Prey, that the reflecting. pool was destroyed by elusive vandals, that every election Republicans lose is. rigged, and on and on. Perhaps there is. a reason that we should want a free. press, which happens to be the exact. reason that Trump doesn't want one. But. again, and I want to be clear, it. doesn't matter what Trump wants. I'm. actually not here to litigate the. benefits and disadvantages. We are. afforded a free press in the very first. amendment to the Constitution, and that.

alone is enough. Period. End of story. So, let's talk about what comes next. Politico, CNN, and MS Now are jointly. suing to demand immediate restoration of. their White House press passes. They're. asking a judge to declare Trump's ban a. flagrant violation of First and Fifth. Amendment rights. This case has been. assigned to Judge Timothy Kelly, who is. a Trump appointee. However, interestingly, he previously presided. over Jim Aosta's press pass case, a case. that Aosta and CNN won. So the fact that. it was given to a judge who Trump.

appointed doesn't necessarily bode well. for him considering he lost a similar. case at the hands of the same judge. And. again, what also doesn't bode well for. him is that his ban is in stark. violation of the US Constitution. In. other words, aside from the law, the. judge, and at least atmospheric. precedent, it is anyone's guess what. happens here. Now, I've said in my. earlier coverage that Donald Trump will. lose this case, and I stand by that. prediction 100%. I have virtually zero.

doubt that this will not go the way. Trump thinks or hopes it will. But the. point here isn't necessarily the. outcome. The point is that he did it in. the first place. And he did it because. he is fundamentally anti-democracy. And. I know that the same media that is. apparently today waking up to the fact. that Donald Trump is a fascist was. pushing back when I was saying the same. thing years ago. The guy's not a. desperate in waiting. Brian, why paint. him as a danger to democracy? But look, just on the. violence, I want to go through a small. list here because it is not the. Democrats who told rally goers to beat. up protesters and that we would pay for. their legal bills. That was Trump who. laughed at Paul Pelosi after he was. bludgeoning with a hammer. Who called. for military tribunals for Liz Cheney,

who said that the Second Amendment. people should go after Hillary Clinton, who called General Mark Millie um to be. executed, who posted a baseball bat. photo with Alvin Bragg and threatened. death and destruction if he was charged, who posted images on the truth social. showing Biden hog tied in the bed of a. truck. who laughed off the kidnapping. plot of Gretchen Whitmer and finally who. incited the events of January 6. All of. that was Donald Trump. Again, the reason. that the Democrats don't want Trump in. power is because we don't want violence. That's the whole point of the movement.

Pierce, I find it so bizarre. that the onus is always on the. Democrats. It's always on the adults in. the room to create unity. Where was. everybody for the last 6 years calling. for unity when Donald Trump was. president? And you know, as far as the. violence is concerned, I feel like any. effort to try to pin again the onus on. Democrats uh in terms of lowering the.

temperature in this country is just a. testament to the to the fact that that. the Republicans are graded on the curve. Remember, it was not the Democrats while. we're talking about political violence. It wasn't the Democrats who laughed at. Paul Pelosi being bludgeoning with a. hammer. That was Donald Trump. It wasn't. Democrats who called for military. tribunals for Liz Cheney. That was. Donald Trump. It wasn't Democrats who. laughed at a kidnapping plot against. Gretchen Whitmer. That was Donald Trump. Wasn't Democrats who called for General. Mark Millie to be executed. That was. Donald Trump. Wasn't Democrats who who.

Democrats who have done this who it's. not the Democrats who've who've. validated the use of political violence. as a tool in this country and one.
