Trump dealt FINAL BLOW over “Lake America” | Another Day
Donald Trump renames a lake. Is it what. he promised during the campaign? No. But, will it help Americans? Also, no. This is just another day. >> [music]. >> The great William Shakespeare wrote, "What's in a name? That which we call a. rose by any other name would smell as. sweet." But, Donald Trump doesn't listen. to experts, which is why I was not at. all surprised when yesterday he posted. this. >> So, this is Lake Ontario in Canada and. in the United States. But, we're going.
to make a little change. We're going to. call it something different than Lake. Ontario. We're going to call it Lake. America. And all it takes is a good pen. and some intelligence. So, Lake Ontario, that's gone. Lake. America. >> That's right. He calls being able to. write Lake America on a piece of paper a. sign of intelligence, which may seem.
like kind of a low bar, but not if you'd. read the essay that got him into. Wharton. Anyway, I assume this was just. one of Trump's little stunts, the kind. of Oval Office crafting project Susie. Wiles arranges to distract him from. starting more wars, but today Trump took. it a step further. >> We're going to be. changing the name of Lake Ontario. effective immediately to Lake America. And we filed all the necessary papers, documents, everything else. We've. notified all of the various people that.
we have to notify. So, we've done everything that you have. to do. >> Spoken like a man who has zero. idea what you have to do. Uh yes, we acquired all the necessary. permits and licensures and a clean bill. of health as to the official order of. operations was sanctified. So, without. further ado, court adjourned. Trump's. decision to rename Lake Ontario comes. just days after Canadian Prime Minister. Mark Carney abandoned trade negotiations. with the US without reaching a deal.
>> An attitude at the negotiation table. that Canada is a subsidiary of the. United States. The Canadian industry. is going to be disadvantaged relative to. American industry. That we're going to set up terms so that. over time. Canadian industry is going to face. constant headwinds. That's not something. we're going to accept. >> So, to summarize, you told Trump you. weren't going to be America's little. Yeah, he's not going to like that. And.
like it, Trump did not. Which is why our. broad-shouldered, tough-as-nails, no-prisoner-taking president decided to. retaliate by sending Canada a resounding. message. >> What message are you sending to Canada. with this move today and why was this. such an important thing for you to do? >> It's an interesting question. No. message. >> Oh, this guy is such a If you're. going to wield the full force of the. presidency toward exacting petty revenge. on people you don't like, own it. You. can't be an internet troll when the.
press corps is standing right in front. of you. If you're going to be a troll, be an actual troll. But look, Trump is a man with ambitions, and those ambitions won't stop at some. measly lake. No, he's got his sights set. on a much larger prize. >> The lake change, the lake of America was. something I've been. thinking about for a long time, actually. As you know, we uh. took something called uh. the Gulf of Mexico, we changed it, and. then now it's very routinely the Gulf of.
America. So, if you think about it, we have a. gulf, and we have. a lake. Now, all we need is an ocean. So, maybe we'll have to change the name. of the Atlantic and/or the Pacific. Maybe we'll change them both. >> To the America Ocean? Won't that get. confusing? Look, Donald, I appreciate. your fealty to the brand, but at some. point the whole naming everything. America thing becomes downright. impractical. >> Continue down America Street 1 mile to.
America Street. Turning left on America. Street after your next America Street. America Street will be on your right. >> Yeah, you rename everything on the map. America, I won't be able to leave the. house. Still, even though changing the. name of Lake Ontario is just one of. those items on Trump's to-do list that. he's been meaning to check off for like. ever, the president still had some. gripes about Canada to get off his. chest. >> We lose on average over the last 15. years $60 billion a year carrying. Canada. So we just can't do it anymore.
We love the people of Canada. I don't think their representatives do a. an appropriate job. Maybe they'll. change. I don't I really don't know. It. doesn't make much difference. Canadian. officials have treated us very badly. They're nasty people. People often times. they'll ask me, "Who's the worst to deal. with on trade?". And I said, "That's easy. Canada.". >> Really? Canada? Not the country that. steals our intellectual property or that. drives down prices by keeping its. currency artificially weak or that. constantly cheats in its trade.
practices? Not those guys? Nah, I get. it. All that stuff is way less offensive. than listening to someone pronounce. about a boot. See, we can joke about it. all we want, but the fact that we can't. make a deal with America's second. largest trading partner is a problem. And shockingly, Trump slapping the name. America on a map doesn't fix it. Of. course, in Trump's defense, this is the. only way he knows how to do anything. His whole life all he's done is slap his. name on stuff that was made, by the way, by other people. And look where it's.
gotten him. So now he thinks as long as. he satisfies his fan base, that will be. enough. Because rebranding a lake. America is the people like this eat. up. >> I think you're the most American person. I've seen here. >> Yeah, and that's saying something. >> Yeah, I guess I thought I thought more. people would be dressed up, but uh. >> I found it on Marketplace last week and. I was coming to the rally, so. it's an awesome fit. >> Well, one must be aware when you have. one, you know. Wear today.
Solidarity for our president who's. willing to take a bullet for us. >> [music]. >> This is how I know that no amount of. love and adulation will ever be enough. for Donald Trump because the man once. had the power to make the ear band-aid. fashionable and he still wasn't. satisfied. Not even Taylor Swift could. pull that off and believe me, she tried.
Although to be fair, that was during her. reputation era and we all know that was. a low point. Fun fact, Look What You. Made Me Do was actually about wearing. the ear band-aid. Unfortunately for. Trump, doodling on a map and calling it. policy doesn't exactly accomplish. anything and not doing anything is. problematic after promising Americans. you would do so much. >> Starting on day one, we will end. inflation and make America affordable. again. >> President Trump, sir, do you believe you. can convince Vladimir Putin to end the.
war in Ukraine? >> Yep, we can. Today I'm thrilled to. announce my plan to lower healthcare. prices for all Americans and truly make. healthcare affordable again. We're doing. things that nobody's ever been able to. do. We reached an agreement with Iran. that achieves everything we set out to. accomplish, everything and much more. >> I guess time management is another one. of Trump's weaknesses because he hasn't. cracked any of those books, meaning. Trump's got quite a bit of cramming to. do. If only one of his children had some.
method of staying wide awake for an. indeterminate number of days. Hmm. I don't know if Trump isn't living up to. his promise because he can't or because. he doesn't want to, probably some degree. of both. I do know what he's doing. instead, what he always does. He is. enriching himself by bilking the rubes. around him for everything they're worth. while he runs his latest project into. the ground. Only after 10 years of being. victim to his grift, some of those ear. band-aid wearing, flag ensconced. patriots seem to be wisening up because.
with midterms just around the corner, here's what a lot of them are now. saying. >> The Republican Party has given us. nothing more than the middle finger. >> I have been a staunch Republican my. entire life. I'm done. >> I've been knocked right in my butt. I'll. admit it. Yeah, I'm really disappointed. >> I'm over it. I think over the Trump. thing, the Trump wagon. >> The Trump thing, otherwise known as. governing through bargain basement. gestures of empty patriotism while doing. nothing to fix the problems that you.
promised to solve. He's waving a flag in. our face to distract us while he goes. for our wallets. And now that most of. America is finally willing to see it, what kind of message do you think that. sends? >> No message. >> [snorts]. >> Of course not. >> [music]. >> Before you go, one quick request. It's. become clear to me that this White House. is dead set on preventing me from. reaching any audience. Trump's decision. to put me as the first name on his. enemies list is a testament to that. But. it didn't quiet down then and I won't do. it now. So please do me a favor and.
