Trump BOMBS at new White House Correspondents Dinner

The other day a senator I knew got a. text, a great guy, from his wife. And she said, "When you get home, I want. to have you immediately come up the. stairs and. make love to me.". And he said, "I can't do both.". You know what that You know. In other words, can't go up the stairs and make love. Does anybody get that? Well, I thought. that was actually pretty good. That was actually the only thing I. thought was good in this whole freaking. stupid speech that they wrote.

That was the only good one, and that. went down with not exactly great. laughter. I think, you know, in other words, you. can't go up the stairs and make love, too. You know. So, we're looking for term limits. Does. anybody understand this stuff? >> Dear God, I know that nobody got shot. tonight, but that doesn't mean Trump. isn't still dying up there. This is the. new iteration of the White House. Correspondents Dinner, and I think it's. clear by now that everyone would have. been well served if Trump could have. just milked missing the first speech for. sympathy points, because any goodwill.

that he garnered went out the window. And here's what I mean by that. Here is. a montage of what Trump decided that a. reconvened White House Correspondents. Dinner needed to give him a platform. for. >> The Democrats. uh are there to destroy wealth and. honestly, they've gone absolutely crazy. Gavin Newsom's not only a man who. really. wants to run for president, he's doing a. bad job running a state. You can't have. somebody like a J.B. Pritzker, who I.

understand is not president, sadly, but. uh. you know, some people say, "Never use the fat word." Sir, in the. back, don't call him a fat pig, okay? That's I'm sticking up for him. Don't. call him. you. You can't do that, sir. You can't. call. J.B. Pritzker a fat pig, please. All right? And the word Democrat is. something that's come into fashion. I. changed the e with a u and most people.

don't know that dumb has a b, so we. don't have to worry about that. It's very quiet. I thought it was quite. good, but I haven't got much credit for. that. Fake news good, Pocahontas good. I won't say lying Ted because he's on my. side. I don't talk about Texas. The. Democrats are running a candidate named. James Telefrisco. who hates guns, hates oil, hates sex, hates women. And who said he is quote a Christian who. hates Christianity. Other than that, his.

I think his platform is quite good. People came up and they said we want you. to apologize. to. Elizabeth Warren. for calling her Pocahontas and I ended. up apologizing to the real Pocahontas, but Elizabeth. Warren was. supposedly of Indian heritage. And then she took the test and she only. had 1/1024th. Native American. And I said, "You know. what?

I have I think I'm more of an Indian. than she is.". So, this is what we have to deal with. You people have no idea how lucky you. are. When I'm gone, you're all going to be broke. Your. business model is going to be finished. No, it's true. When I'm not around, you're going to be. broke. There's not going to be anybody. to report on. Nobody gives a damn about. anybody else. But I want to personally congratulate. CNN's. Caitlan Collins. on receiving her award.

It was all about me. It's a fake. She. shouldn't get the award. It was a fake, but I didn't mind. I said, "Caitlan, congratulations.". But it was fake. There's no question. about it, but she's a. young, attractive woman. She never. smiles. I said, "Caitlan, do you ever. smile? Smile. You have a nice position. You're. at CNN fake news. You should be a happy person. It's been. an interesting evening. I didn't really. know what to expect and it's far worse. than I actually thought. >> To be clear, this is an event intended.

to celebrate a free press at which Trump. stood up and spent the bulk of his. remarks attacking the people in that. room, the free press. They convened a. second White House Correspondents Dinner. expressly to give this man a platform. from which he could further undermine. the very media sitting in front of him. I would ask when the legacy media will. learn, finally learn that treating this. guy as politics as usual is a mistake, but apparently the answer is never. The White House Correspondents. Association Dinner exists as a tradition.

precisely because it is supposed to. symbolize something bigger than any one. president. This is a night where the. press and the White House can occupy the. same room, roast each other, and still. walk out with some mutual respect for. the First Amendment intact. That's the. whole point. It's not supposed to be a. MAGA rally, not supposed to be a. campaign stop. Supposed to be a night. meant to affirm that even the most. powerful man in the country, in the. world, answers to a free press and that. he respects the institution enough to. sit in that room and take a joke at his.

own expense. And yet, instead, he used. it as another stage to settle scores and. frankly further undermine trust in the. First Amendment. Trump doesn't care. about the media. He hates the media. unless it's 100% loyal to him. But he is. more than happy for them to give him a. platform from which he can destroy them. That's what the White House. Correspondents Association did tonight. And it's not like they didn't know that. this was coming. These people aren't. stupid. Hell, they know him better than. anyone. They cover him every day.

But they do this anyway because they. will quite literally never learn that. conferring goodwill on the Trump or. Republicans buys you exactly zero. goodwill. You will put him on a pedestal and he. will stand up on that pedestal and. destroy you from it. Rinse and repeat. There's also some disgusting irony in. the fact that this original event, the. original White House Correspondents. Dinner, was the one in which a gunman. tried to interrupt the evening just a. few months ago. I was actually in DC for. that event. And even despite yet another.

encounter against him with that gunman. attempting to attack him, Trump still. used this platform to just target other. people. Zero introspection. He just used. it to spew more hate, more division, more bile. Coming from the guy who is so quick to. curry sympathy for himself, to present. himself as a victim, but immediately. immediately cries foul. when he feels like somebody's coming for. him. He can always dish it, never take.

it. None of this helps journalism. None of. it protects reporters who are doing. their jobs under increasing hostility, increasing threats, and increasingly. thin protections. What it does is teach. every strongman-curious politician, which basically is most of the GOP, watching tonight that you can walk into. the belly of the free press, mock it to. its face, and still get invited back. next year with all these journalists. pretending that everything is fine, just. fine. Politics as usual, including with. moments like this.

Did very well the second time, by. the way. It's a rigged election, but. we'll have to talk about it. You know, it's interesting when you come back and. you do a good job like we did. And you. don't care about it so much, but we do. have to tighten up these elections cuz. they really are in seriously bad shape.

>> How's that for an evening spent in. purported support of the Constitution? A. president who uses that event to defy it. openly and shamelessly. Now, I don't know if he's joking or if. that's just the excuse that he gives to. cover for his authoritarian tendencies, and frankly, I don't care because we. know who he is, and so does the White. House Correspondents Association. So, perhaps learn from one of the 100,000. pieces of evidence right in front of you. that we have your efforts to normalize. this autocrat that are only undermining. the very free press that you claim to.

support. You cannot do politics as usual. with a guy who, if he got his way, would. eliminate the ability of a free press to. even exist. And look, I understand that journalists. want to be neutral, but if you're an. American, you must be biased in favor of. democracy. And democracy is antithetical. to the movement that Trump oversees. Autocrats do not want a free press. Trump is an autocrat. He's issued. subpoenas to reporters. He's blocked. journalists from the Pentagon. He's.

sicked his FCC on people who report. critically against him or, God forbid, make fun of him. You do not have to do both sides with. Trump. And this disgusting speech that. we watched tonight is a testament to. exactly why.
