Republicans FURIOUS at Trump over SHOCKING announcement | Another Day
Donald Trump endorses Texas Attorney. General Ken Paxton in the Republican. Senate runoff and GOP leadership is. well, what's the opposite of absolutely. thrilled? This is just another day. >> [music]. >> As everyone knows, everything is bigger. in Texas, but I'm not just talking about. the rates of illiteracy and heart. disease. I'm also talking about. presidential endorsements. Big political. breaking news. President Trump just. announced he is endorsing Ken Paxton in. the Texas Republican Senate primary.
runoff. That is instead of the man he is. challenging, the incumbent Republican. Senator John Cornyn. This is a fight. that has been going on with tens of. millions of dollars spent. In fact, a. total just in the runoff of 20 26.5. million dollars spent that didn't need. to be spent if the president was going. to put his thumb on the scale the way. that he did. Yes, it's just shocking to. see Donald Trump be so careless with.
other people's money like this. Tell you. what, I haven't been this surprised. since I saw RFK chowing down on that. gopher sandwich. It's locally sourced. because I found it under my tire. But. this is big news, especially because. just this morning Trump was playing coy. about who he throw his weight behind. >> There are those that say whoever I. endorse is going to win. I don't know if. that's true, but historically that's. absolutely true. I just don't like to. say it cuz I don't like to brag. I'm sorry. Uh, what was that? Cuz it.
sounded like Donald Trump said that he. doesn't like to brag, but it was just a. little hard to hear him over the sound. of all of these clips of him, you know. Anybody running for president or vice. president should take a cognitive test. And. no president has ever taken one except. me. I've taken three of them and I've. aced each one. I have pictures of Martin. Luther King's grad, my grad, it's the. exact same everything, but it was 70. years difference. The exact same crowd, but I actually had. more people, but that's okay. I know a.
lot about [clears throat] golf. I've won. 38 club championships, and I don't get. to practice much. I think I speak for millions of. Americans when I say, "Please, go practice more. Practice as. much as you possibly can. In fact, I bet. if you spent the next, let's say, 2 and. 1/2 years doing nothing but practicing. golf, you would be amazing.". But this is big news for the midterms. because for months, many Senate. Republicans, including the majority. leader, John Thune of South Dakota, had.
been urging Mr. Trump to back Mr. Cornyn, whom they saw as a stronger. candidate in a general election. So. today, a lot of people inside the. Beltway are asking the same question, "Why?" When it really counted, Ken. Paxton was there for the country, was. there for the president, and that's why. he ultimately earned the president's. endorsement. He thinks he's going to be. a better senator, uh thinks he's going. to make a better candidate. Uh the. president's very gratified by the. response that he's heard from the base. and from a lot of voters I think who are. passionate about Ken Paxton. Yes, let's.
hear some of that oh so passionate. reaction. A shockwaves, anger, disappointment, and real concern among. Republicans in this building. Many. Senate Republicans who served with. Cornyn responded with clenched-jawed. dismay. A lot of Republicans are fearful. that it will cost them a seat, a. critical seat in keeping the majority, including Senator Thune, who just. moments before Trump made his. announcement, was in the dark. By the. way, that's not a figure of speech. John. Thune is literally in the dark, Stranger.
Things style, because his job under. Trump is a total nightmare. It's worth noting how frustrated and. pissed these Republicans are at the. president. Not for raising the cost of. gas and groceries, or for kicking. Americans off of healthcare, or for. cutting billions from cancer research, because none of those things could hurt. their chances in the midterms. They're. livid that Trump endorsed the guy. everyone could have predicted he would. endorse. The only thing more of a. guarantee that Donald Trump endorsing a. MAGA loyalist over an establishment. Republican is the guarantee that Ken.
Paxton will miss that dartboard 100% of. the time. But while John Cornyn has been on the DC. political scene for quite some time now, Paxton is little less known. So, who is. this man who scored the Trump bump? Well, besides being Texas's Attorney. General, he's also been accused of. adultery by his wife of 38 years, Angela. Paxton, who last year filed for divorce. on biblical grounds. He's been indicted. on charges of felony securities fraud, and he's been impeached, too, with votes. from members of his own party on.
allegations of bribery, dereliction of. duty, obstruction of justice, and abuse. of the public trust and other misdeeds. My God, this guy is such a perfect. Republican in 2026, I'm surprised the. elephant didn't him out himself. Let's hear what this GOP godsend has to. say about his opponent, though, shall. we? He's not a big Donald Trump fan. >> [laughter]. >> He's been He was He said he should not. be reelected, that likely should go to. jail. He didn't He was not supportive in.
any of the election stuff. He fought him. in 2016 on his first election, saying he. was an albatross around our necks. Yeah, I don't know if that's the winning. message Ken Paxton thinks it is. I mean, a sitting Republican senator bashing. Trump? >> In fact, Senator Vance once called. himself a "never Trump" guy, saying on. NPR, quote, "I can't stomach Trump," and. once comparing him to Hitler. I mean, historically, that's grounds for a. promotion to the presidential ticket. But with all of Paxton's baggage, he. clearly has a long road ahead of him in.
this campaign. It's voting time, so. let's cut through the Crooked. Ken Paxton cheated on his wife. She's. divorcing him on biblical grounds, [music]. so now Paxton's wrecking another home, sleeping around with a married mother of. seven. >> Uh real quick, when it comes to. adultery, does the number of kids. matter? Like it'd be okay if it was two, but seven? Statistically, at least one. of those children has heard Ken Paxton. their mother. And is that the. kind of man Texans can trust? Now, obviously, campaigns can get nasty, but.
even by today's standards, that is a. pretty ruthless ad by Texas Democrats. I'm John Cornyn, [music] and I approve. this message. Join my team and give. today. Holy that ad is from a fellow. Republican? I can't wait until Cornyn bows out of. the race and has to endorse Paxton. What's he going to even say? Hey, you. know what? Ken Paxton could have had an. affair with a woman with eight kids, but. that's not the kind of man he is. But if you thought that was John Cornyn. stooping to a new low, you have no idea.
how low this man can go. He has truly. debased himself in the now dashed hopes. of scoring Donald Trump's endorsement. Here he is, for example, in March of. last year, recommending the Art of the. Deal. And how about that irony? Cornyn. clearly didn't read that book, or he. probably would have surmised that. Trump's deal is you over, no. matter how much you kiss his ass. And it gets even worse. A highway that. begins in Texas could get a new name. Senator John Cornyn is proposing.
renaming Highway 287 to Interstate 47, and he wants it to be known as Trump. Interstate. Oh god. John Cornyn sold his. soul to name a truck route after Trump? And to show his appreciation, Trump. drove a truck through John Cornyn's. campaign. But after learning of Trump's. endorsement, John Cornyn posted this. tweet. "I have worked closely with. President Trump through both of his. presidential terms and voted with him. more than 99% of the time. He has. consistently called me a friend in this. race. It is now time for Texas. Republican voters to decide if they want.
a strong nominee to help our GOP. candidates down ballot and defeat Ted. Cruz in November, or a weak nominee who. jeopardizes everything we care about. I. trust the Republican voters of Texas.". And there's just one small problem with. John Cornyn's tweet. When he says that. Paxton jeopardizes everything we care. about, he doesn't realize that he is no. longer part of that we because that we. does not care if the president uses. Texans hard-earned tax dollars to build. himself a shiny new ballroom. That we.
could not care less if the leader of. their party hands out cash to people who. beat up Capitol Police officers. And. that we thinks the sitting president. increasing their wealth by four. billion dollars in one year is a. perfectly normal occurrence. I hate to. say it because John Cornyn is such a. transphobe, but he really needs to. change his pronouns from I me to they. them because he's not in the club. anymore. Because everyone in the club. knows full well that the only remaining. principle in the Republican Party today. is blind allegiance to the God King and.
nothing else. Republicans in Congress. can and moan all they want about. Ken Paxton hurting their chances in the. midterms, but they only have themselves. to blame. Because when you spend years. wholeheartedly supporting a morally. bankrupt con man, this is what you get. I mean, I hate to say I told you so. because, you know me, I don't like to. brag, huh? Exactly. >> [music]. >> Before you go, I'm very excited to. announce that I've written a new book.
titled The Day After: How to Wield Power. in a Post-Trump World. The book explores. what is, in my opinion, the single most. important theme that we're dealing with. in politics today and moving forward, power. Specifically, how Republicans. abuse it and how Democrats refuse to. wield it. This book explains how we got. here and more importantly, how we should. finally wield power if we're fortunate. enough to get it back. It is the. blueprint for progressives who want to. do far more than just restore the status. quo. Please pre-order today by visiting. the link in the episode description or.
go to briantylercohen.com/book. You can grab yours from any of the major. to. like Amazon or Barnes & Noble or find an. independent bookstore closest to you. that's also listed on that website. Thanks so much for supporting. independent media.
