In the aftermath of this tirade by Trump. against Rob Reiner and his wife, >> he became like a deranged person. Trump. derangement syndrome. So, I was not a. fan of Rob Reiner at all in any way, shape, or form. I thought he was very. bad for our country. Yeah, >> it looks like Trump's usual effort to. divide the country along partisan lines. is hitting a brick wall. In a surprising. turn of events, some Republicans and. right-wingers have now condemned the. hateful rhetoric spewed by Trump. Here, for example, is Republican Senator John. Kennedy. A wise man.

once said nothing. Why? Because he's a wise man. I think President Trump should have said. nothing. Here's what Fox News looked. like on Laura Ingram show about how Rob. talked when Charlie Kirk was. assassinated. I knew Charlie Kirk. I. supported him. Uh we'd I had seen him uh. uh last year just before Christmas. Um.

and to know that he had been. assassinated was so devastating. People. said such horrible things and Rob did. not. And when people say horrible things. about Rob right now, I find it quite. frankly in infuriating. uh and distasteful. If Joe Biden had. said this about anybody, I would have. attacked him and said he was completely. wrong. I do hope the president comes. back and corrects himself. >> Well, he was he was asked to and he. didn't. But I get why you're upset.

Christianity Today wrote, "Now this. vile, disgusting, and immoral behavior. has become normalized in the United. States is something our descendants will. study in school to the shame of our.

generation." Heraldo Rivera wrote, "Sad. President Trump mocked the brutal. murders of Rob and Michelle Reiner, apparently by their own drug addicted. son. It is gross and lowass." Sage Steel. tweeted, "This tweet is so disappointing. and so unnecessary. It's comments like. this that take away from the countless. great things Donald Trump does for. America." Gen Z commentator Brian. Hollyand wrote, "Taking a victory lap. when a critic is killed. That's how you. lose Gen Z and independence." Seth. Dylan, who runs the right-wing satire. website the Babylon B, wrote, "This is. real." Sadly. Now, I have to say.

something. First and foremost, Trump's. comment, while depraved and disgusting, is frankly no different than any of the. other awful things that he has said. He. has been spewing this bile for the. better part of a decade. He is brazenly. xenophobic, misogynistic, and on and on. The guy took out a full page ad calling. for the death penalty for a bunch of. black kids for committing a crime that. they were acquitted of. This is who. Trump is and always has been. So for the. people who've expressed disgust. rightfully at what Trump said and also.

say things like this is a new low and. this is a bridge too far and how. disappointing. I'm not sure which Donald. Trump you've been watching over the last. few years, but this is who he has always. been. This is not a new low and it's not. surprising. This is the exact person the. left has been condemning for a decade, if not longer. I don't want to condemn. anyone for getting to that realization. eventually, but let's please disabuse. ourselves of this notion that Donald. Trump is suddenly hitting a brand new. low. One more point here, lest you think.

that the entire Republican party has. suddenly grown a spine. This is not all. Republicans. This is some Republicans. This is a very tiny fraction of. Republicans. Notably, most of those. people don't have any legislative or. political power other than Thomas Massie. and Margie Taylor Green, one of whom. only has a few weeks left in office. So, I don't want you to think that some wave. of principles has suddenly washed over. the GOP. But that's not to say that even. this level of defiance isn't still. notable, because it is. And frankly, a. few months ago, it would have been.

impossible to see, which is to say Trump. is publicly weakening. And this response. is a testament to that. Which brings me. to my last point. It is indeed notable. that we're seeing an increased. willingness to publicly rebuke Trump. As. I said just a moment ago a few months. ago, this would not have existed. The. fact that it exists now means that. something has changed. Perhaps it's. Trump's cratering approval ratings. Perhaps it's existential worry for these. other elected Republicans who recognize. that he is dragging their own electoral. prospects down. Perhaps it's watching.

Democrats flip seats by 12, 13, 14, 15. or more points in the reddest of areas. Perhaps it's the toxicity of aligning. yourself with a guy who seems more. intent on helping pedophiles than. regular Americans or even his own. voters. Whatever the reason, the. newfound willingness of some. Republicans, again, not all, but some, to rebuke this president is a big deal, and it signifies a weakening of not just. Trump, but Trumpism. And if the members. of a cult are starting to wake up, then. that at least bodess well for the rest.
