Republican drops JAW-DROPPING admission about Trump
It takes a lot to shock me as far as. Republicans are concerned. This right. here shocked me. >> Who was saying as recently as yesterday. he likes the idea of this fund, that he. wants to find some way to pay these. people. Does that concern you as someone. who's trying to fight against getting. this anti-weaponization fund in place? >> Well, there's nothing we could do to. to. to rein in the president when he said he. likes the fund and he wishes still. exists, but the fact of the matter it's. dead and that's all we could do under. these circumstances. See you all.
>> Thank you. >> Quote, there is nothing we could do to. rein in the president, says a US senator. who has the unilateral ability to rein. in the president. There's nothing I can. do to get this player to stop committing. fouls, says the referee who's holding a. red card. There's nothing I can do about. this terrible TV show, says the guy. sitting in front of the TV holding the. remote. I mean, my god, have some. self-respect. You've got agency. Hell, you're one of the few people who does. have agency here. Of all people who.
don't have the power to rein in the. president, you John Cornyn are one of. the very few who does. And yet, there is. this sense of learned helplessness in. the GOP when it comes to Donald Trump, that these people who can do something. about his corruption instead just curl. up into the fetal position and cry while. contracting every ounce of their power. to another branch of government. In. fact, not only could Cornyn rein in the. president, he did rein in the president. for a short while. For but a fleeting.
moment, he blocked Blanche's. confirmation demanding confirmation. approval that Trump's slush fund would. be permanently killed. And instead, what. Blanche gave him was a half-baked. assurance that this specific fund would. go away while expressly preserving the. settlement agreement that serves as the. foundation, the basis for a brand new. iteration of the January 6th slush fund. to pop up again. And Cornyn knows that. distinction, by the way, because he. himself questioned Blanche on it during. Blanche's confirmation hearing.
>> But let's talk a little bit about the. set about the settlement agreement and. the release. Um first of all, I believe you have said. that the weaponization fund is a moot. issue. Is that your position? >> Yes, it is a moot issue meaning there is. no weaponization fund. Weaponization. fund is dead. It's not moving forward. >> Well, I would refer you to the uh. settlement agreement. Do you happen to. have a copy of that in front of you? >> I I do not. >> Okay, well you probably know what's.
what's in it. >> I'm familiar with it, yes. >> I'm sure you are. On page four, this. settlement agreement can be modified may. be modified only upon the written. agreement of the parties. Has there been. a written agreement of the parties to. modify the settlement fund? >> No, it the settlement fund is just not. moving forward. There's not There's no. modification. It's just it never. started. No money went from the Treasury. to any other account. There's no. commissioners. It's not moving forward. >> Well, the so the settlement agreement. remains as it was originally. Um but you.
I hear what you're saying. Um. Is it in Is the settlement agreement. enforceable as a contract by the. parties? >> Well, yes, it's an enforceable document. So, I suppose if if President Trump's. counsel sought to enforce it, um. they potentially could. Um. >> Including including the weaponization. fund. >> Well, they could try to enforce the. the contract. They can't force the. Department of Justice to move forward. with the weaponization fund. They could. potentially say that I suppose that we.
breached by not moving forward. Um they. haven't done that and I'm I'm I'm not. aware that they're planning on doing. that. >> So, what I don't understand is how that. guy seemed to fully understand the. difference between the settlement. agreement and the specific slush fund. that was born out of that agreement, but. now he's coming out and saying that the. fund is dead and he's perfectly. satisfied as if he doesn't understand. that the settlement agreement is still. intact. Is he being willfully naive or. does he fully understand the issue here.
and is just too much of a coward to keep. putting up a fight? Is this what. conviction looks like in the GOP these. days? Be a fighter for all of one. weekend before crumbling like stale. bread come Monday morning. Again, Cornyn understood full well the. risks when he was questioning Blanche. And then Blanche goes ahead and keeps. that exact settlement agreement in. place, which again allows him to create. a brand new slush fund the second he's. confirmed, and yet Cornyn votes to. confirm him anyway. >> Nomination of Todd Blanche to be. Attorney General. The clerk will call.
the roll. >> Mr. Cornyn. >> Aye. >> Mr. Lee. >> Aye. >> Mr. Cruz. >> Aye. >> Mr. Paul. >> Aye. >> Mr. Tillis. >> Aye. >> Mr. Kennedy. >> Aye. >> Mrs. Blackburn. >> Aye. >> Mr. Smith. >> Aye. >> Mrs. Britt. >> Aye. >> Mrs. Murray. >> Aye. >> Mrs. Braun. >> Aye. >> Mr. Cramer. >> No. >> Mr. Whitehouse. >> No by proxy. >> Mrs. Rosen. >> No. >> Mr. Coons. >> No. >> Mr. Blumenthal. >> No. >> Mr. Rounds.
Mr. Booker. >> No. >> Mr. Padilla. >> No. >> Mr. Welch. >> No. >> Mr. Schatz. >> No. >> Mr. Grassley. >> Aye. >> On this vote, the ayes are 12, the nays. are 10. >> The nomination will be favorably. reported. >> Yeah, what could we possibly do to rein. Trump in, says the guy who just voted. not to rein Trump in. Truly one of. life's great mysteries as to how we got. here. So, I'm sorry, but I don't want to hear. from Republicans about how Donald Trump. is too difficult to rein in when they.
are the exact reason that he feels so. emboldened to act as if he's a dictator. He wouldn't be so willing to act that. way if he didn't have a permission. structure from his own party, which. constantly constantly allows him to do. whatever he wants. And even in the rare. instances where they do manage to speak. up, it lasts for all of 5 minutes before. they once again become these obsequious, small, scared little boys and girls who. are only there to grovel at the feet of. their god king in their desperation for.
a little pat on the head. So look, as. midterms approach, yes, it is clear that. Donald Trump and his cabinet are engaged. in Olympic levels of corruption, but I. want to be clear, especially given the. fact that Trump himself is not going to. be on the ballot. This would not be. happening if it wasn't for his party. They are in the majorities in a co-equal. branch of government. They have full. power to rein him in. They are the only. ones with full power to rein him in. They are making the conscious decision. not to. They are making the conscious.
decision that he can do whatever he. wants regardless of the Constitution, of. laws, of other branches of government, of the courts. They are the cause of. this because they are in the position to. stop it and yet choose not to. So when you look at the ballot, just. remember that wherever you see a. Republican, you should see a political. party that has created an environment. where Donald Trump, one man, can. undermine the entire federal government. in deference to himself. When you see. Trump try and pay himself in the US. Treasury, remember that Republicans.
allowed it. When you see cut Trump cut. healthcare for tens of millions of. Americans, remember that Republicans. allowed it. When he guts food. assistance, Republicans allowed it. When. he launches a trade war that sends costs. surging, Republicans allowed it. When he. launches a real war that sends gas. prices and inflation surging, Republicans allowed it. If you are going. to give Trump a clear runway to run. roughshod over our democracy, then you. also own the consequences. So when you hear John Cornyn pretend. that there's no way to rein Trump in,
just remember that the only thing worse. than a coward is a coward who's also a. liar. >> [music]. >> It's become clear to me that this White. House is dead set on preventing me from. reaching any audience. Trump's decision. to put me as the first name on his. enemies list is a testament to that. But. it didn't quiet down then, and I won't. do it now. So please do me a favor and. subscribe to this channel.
