OOPS: Karoline Leavitt lets Trump’s secret SLIP

We have got a pretty damning slip-up by. press secretary Karoline Leavitt. So, here's the quick backstory. Republican. Senator Thom Tillis has publicly warned. the Trump administration that he will. not advance Trump's new pick for the Fed. chair, Kevin Warsh, so long as Trump. continues with his existing vindictive. prosecution of current Fed chair, Jerome. Powell. No. No. I'm a pretty predictable person. Uh I have said that we need to end the. investigation. Um and I do hope that. we'll have a turnover in. um even with uh you know, Chair Powell.

rolling out sometime before the 28 uh. 2028 when his his term expires. But But. that the the president, excuse me, pilot. the. the On the night that I said that. I was [clears throat] not going to move. forward with a nom. uh because of this investigation, the. president said he wasn't aware of the. investigation. The DOJ moved unilaterally. DOJ needs to. fix this problem. Obviously, Trump wants. his nominee. And obviously, he sees the.

writing on the wall that Tillis won't. relent while he continues to prosecute. Powell. So, the US Attorney's Office in. Washington, D.C. today announced that it. would not move forward with its. prosecution of Fed chair, Jerome Powell, with Jeanine Pirro writing, quote, "This. morning, the Inspector General for the. Federal Reserve has been asked to. scrutinize the building cost overruns in. the billions of dollars that have been. borne by taxpayers. The IG has the. authority to hold the Federal Reserve. accountable to American taxpayers. I. expect a comprehensive report in short. order and I'm confident the outcome will. assist in resolving, once and for all,

the questions that led this office to. issue subpoenas. Accordingly, I have. directed my office to close our. investigation as the IG undertakes this. inquiry. Note well, however, that I will. not hesitate to restart a criminal. investigation should the facts warrant. doing so." Now, you probably noticed. that last line, quote, "I will not. hesitate to restart a criminal. investigation should the facts warrant. doing so." Which, if you're a cynic of. this White House, like me, likely means. that they'll pause the investigation. just long enough to get Tillis' vote for.

Kevin Warsh, and then once he's. confirmed, boom, the probe into Jerome. Powell will start up immediately. thereafter. But, who knows? Maybe Tom. Tillis, this Republican Senator, believed the White House was acting in. good faith. Maybe he believed he could. trust Donald Trump. And then, Caroline. Leavitt decided to speak out, and here's. what she said. Go ahead. >> ending the probe into Jerome Powell, was his final on that? What was his. involvement? And why now after. ratcheting up some of the rhetoric. around that earlier this week? Um, as.

you saw, Judge Jeanine Pirro, or former. Judge Jeanine, US Attorney Jeanine now, um, put out a statement saying that the. case is not necessarily dropped, it's. just being moved over um, to the. Inspector General, who has critical. tools at their disposal to continue to. look into the financial mismanagement at. the Fred Fed. This has obviously been a. priority for the President. If you drive. by the Fed building, the President has a. point. This is a project that's been. going on for a very long time. It's. costing taxpayers billions of dollars,

and I think it's in the best interest of. the taxpayer to get to the bottom of it. So, the investigation still continues, it's just under a different authority, um, and that's what you'll continue to. see. Quote, "The case is not necessarily. dropped, it's just being moved over to. the Inspector General. This has been a. priority for the President. The. investigation still continues, it's just. under a different authority." The. not-so-subtle subtext here is that. clearly this White House is pulling a. bait-and-switch to make it seem like the. investigation is being dropped in order. to curry favor with one holdout. Republican Senator, but then in reality,

they're still being aggressive and still. signaling that the prosecution is. nowhere near dead. And that's a point. that former federal prosecutor Glenn. Kirschner picked up on here. I mean, honestly, what is to stop. the DOJ or Jeanine Pirro from advancing. Kevin Warsh, Donald Trump's pick for for. new Fed chair, and then the next day, once they got what they needed from Tom. Tillis and advanced this nomination and. got him confirmed to open up the. investigation into Jerome Powell once.

more. I mean, like it it it seems beyond. it seems. more than reasonable to assume that. Donald Trump is not in the business of. of making deals that are transactional. on both sides. Like he is just looking. to help himself. And if he has a a gripe. with somebody, a a a feud with somebody, a grudge against somebody, this is not. somebody who is known to let those. things go, to relinquish them. Donald Trump does not seem to know how. to put a grudge behind him. And you know. what? You know I'm not a betting man. $1.

is my betting limit. I'll put the full. buck on at some point Jeanine Pirro. conjuring up some reason to say, "Oh, well, wait a minute. We didn't know. that. The Inspector General found some. stuff that we knew nothing about. And. now our criminal investigation of Jerome. Powell is back on." And what I think. Trump and Pirro and others in Trump's. orbit are hoping that they can pull one. over on Tillis and get him to withdraw. his hold and then go back after Jerome.

January 6th insurrection. The corruption. prosecutions for crimes committed during. the second Trump term will surely. involve similar numbers of prosecutors. However, they must move with more speed. and determination than the Biden Justice.

engage in these vindictive prosecutions. expressly because there is no deterrent. Democrats have failed to step up and. fight back in the past as aggressively. as they needed to, and the Republicans. have taken full advantage. That cannot. ever happen again. We are not just on. the precipice of autocracy, we're there. This administration is prosecuting its. opponents, creating state TV, silencing. comedians and critics, attacking. colleges and law firms, sending masked. men into the streets to kill Americans, plundering the US Treasury for their own. financial benefit, and so much more. But.

I still believe there is a way out, even. though that window is nearly closed. And. once Democrats take control again, which. I believe they will, if we don't hold. corrupt officials who engage in. vindictive prosecutions to account, then. mark my words, this will happen again, and again, and again. So I hope that Thom Tillis right now is. not fooled by this White House's very. obvious and transparent ploy. I hope. that he holds true to his own stated. values, and I hope that he sends a. message to this administration that it. is actually possible to stand up to.
