OMG: Trump makes MASSIVE World Cup MISTAKE | Another Day

Donald Trump inserts himself into the. World Cup, and who doesn't like watching. Trump insert himself into things? Am I. right? This is just another day. >> [music]. >> Just when people thought that the World. Cup couldn't get any more exciting. >> In a surprise move, FIFA lifted US. striker Folarin Balogun's one-game ban. for a red card. He is now eligible for. tonight's match. >> This is amazing news. Folarin Balogun is. back, and Team USA now has their full. original roster for tonight's match up.

against Belgium. There's only one small. catch. >> The New York Times is reporting. President Trump called the president of. FIFA to ask him to review that. suspension. >> FIFA says its decision was in line with. its disciplinary code, but this is the. first time since 1962. that it has reversed a suspension of a. red card that was issued during a World. Cup match. >> 1962? That's back when players still smoked. while playing. But more importantly, what the man? Donald Trump simply.

can't stay out of anything. The World. Cup is finally an event that Americans. and everybody else on the planet can. watch and enjoy because it doesn't. involve him. But this president just. couldn't sit idly by and let that. continue. The only saving grace is. knowing that while he may have been. working the phones behind the scenes, now that things have been tilted in. Trump's favor, he's sure to keep a low. profile. >> So, I saw the play, and I'm a person that loves sports and. was a good athlete.

And I understand sports really well, really well. And he gave him a red card. I didn't know what that meant. I didn't. think it meant much. Then I started. hearing that that means he can't play in. the next game, at least in the next. game. Uh yes, I asked for a review by FIFA. I spoke to a man who's highly respected, and by the way, whose level of respect. has gone up. tenfold. >> Got it. So, this man who understands. sports really well, but didn't know what. a red card meant, simply couldn't let.

this call stand. So, he phoned Gianni. Infantino, who he holds in very high. regard. As for why that is, no one's really sure. >> Mr. President, this is your prize. This. is your peace prize. >> Yep. Not a clue. And yet, to hear. Infantino describe it, he's not sure. what the big deal is, either. >> FIFA's President, Gianni Infantino, says. there is nothing unusual about getting a. phone call from President Trump, since. world leaders call him all the time. >> He knows that people aren't angry at the.

existence of a phone call, right? It is. what transpired after said phone call. that has people up in arms. That's like. Diddy going, "I can't believe. everybody's angry about my party. favors.". But, two things can be true here. You. can be thrilled that Team USA now has. all of its players going into tonight's. match, which I am, and you can think. it's pretty up for the President. of the United States, a participating. country, to put his fingers on the scale. to overturn a red card. You can root for. America to win, while also rooting for. Donald Trump to just, you know, stay the.

away from our sports. Because now, the sad reality is that despite whatever. happens, there will be those who insist. that there is an asterisk next to. tonight's final score. And folks in. Trump's orbit aren't even being shy. about it. >> Behalf of all Americans, thank you for. getting rid of that ridiculous red card. >> [laughter]. >> This is his. >> interest. >> It was spectacular. There was a reason. the FIFA trophy sat here for as long as.

it did. >> That's right. If there is one man. deserving of that FIFA trophy, it is. this athletic specimen right here. We don't need political influence in our. sports. It should be based on talent and. strategy and heart. But, clearly, not. everyone feels that way. >> The call was bad. I mean, that's the. whole thing. You can talk about. political interference until we're blue. in the face. It was a bad call. I don't. care, you know, what how this decision. was made. It was made because it was a. bad call. >> Right. But, the bad calls happen all the.

time. And some people deal with them. like, oh, uh what's the word? Adults. >> I think the the choice of the referee. was, of course, his choice, but I don't. think it was. it was the correct call. I think a. yellow card would have been fair. You. know, I think it's it's it's happened. and it's something I have to accept and. just move forward from. >> Do you hear that? That's Folarin. Balogun, the player who actually got the. red card and an example of what a. professional sounds like. Someone who. knows that when things don't go your. way, you accept it and you move on. And.

that is one of the biggest reasons that. we all love sports, because it's fair. Now, sure, you can point out that having. a higher payroll allows certain teams to. afford better players, which gives them. a better likelihood to win a. championship, but. shut up, nerd. In sports, the team with. the higher score wins. That's simple. Yes, there are bad calls. Yes, there are. home team advantages. Yes, there are. shitty weather that changes the way that. a game is played. But, what we have. agreed upon as a society is that when. that clock runs out, that's it. What is. fair is that the score is the score and.

everybody deals with it like grown-ups. The people who lose accept defeat. It's. the reason that we never saw Wembanyama. hold a press conference to claim that. the Spurs actually won the NBA finals. And it's the reason that we don't see. him spend the next decade whining about. how the Knicks rigged the game and how. many of the points on the scoreboard for. New York were actually made by illegals. No, he owns the loss and moves on, unlike this man. And what makes Donald. Trump's call to have Balogun reinstated. all the more vexing?

His Nigerian. parents were traveling through New York. when his mother, heavily pregnant, was. prevented from boarding a flight back to. England. Weeks later, Balogun was born. in Brooklyn. Under the 14th Amendment, he became a US citizen at birth. >> Well, well, well. Folarin Balogun is a. birthright citizen. Or, as Donald Trump. refers to it, public enemy number one.

>> Birthright citizenship is a disgrace. But birthright citizens a big deal. And. it's usually people that hate our. country, if you want to know the truth. >> This man is an 80-year-old tub of. wrinkly irony. Donald Trump has spent. years trying to strip away the main. thing responsible for Folarin Balogun's. ability to play for the United States. Half our roster is made up of dual. citizenship holders, foreign-born. players, and children of immigrants. Honestly, I'm surprised Trump doesn't. just listen to the World Cup because he. can't bear witness to such horrid.

diversity. The reality is, regardless of. the outcome of tonight's game, which. again, I desperately hope America wins, there is now a cloud over this game. And. that is no one's fault but Donald. Trump's. Because this man simply can't. handle anyone else being the center of. attention. For our current president, it. is necessary to insert himself into. every situation, which numerous people. can attest to. But if there's one area where this. shouldn't be happening, it's sports. These games that we play and watch and.

cheer for on nights and weekends with. our friends and families and strangers. in bars are one of the only places that. our society is left to escape from. politics. It is our brief respite from the. non-stop drumbeat of partisan. Sports are acts of joy and excitement. A. way to bond with the folks around us. Or. even just an excuse to get away from our. racist relatives on Thanksgiving. Sports. are a unifying event, which is something. we surprisingly still need, even though. someone has proclaimed this over a year.
