But it looks. like the confirmation process may not be. as smooth sailing as he'd hoped. >> A major Republican stand up to Trump. Todd Blanche's nomination for Attorney. General is in deep in deep trouble.

tonight. >> The vote has officially been postponed. >> Postponed? Wait. Could it be? Are we. Might we be witnessing the faint. outlines of a spine in the Republican. Party? Please. Do tell. >> There was supposed to be a meeting. taking place this morning at 10:30 a.m. between Senator John Cornyn, the. Republican from Texas, a key member of. the Senate Judiciary Committee, and. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche. John Cornyn for days has said that he. wants to reopen that settlement, to kill.

the anti-weaponization fund on paper. once and for all, and to also narrow the. scope of the audit immunity given to. President Trump and some folks around. him. John Cornyn yesterday said that it. wouldn't happen unless Todd Blanche. arrived to his office with paper in hand. ready to handle this thing once and for. all. John Cornyn a few minutes after. 10:30 came out and told reporters that. the meeting was no longer happening. >> Wow, classic Cornyn. Putting his foot. down, just like that hard-nosed Texan. always has. Since Donald Trump refused.

to endorse him and he got his ass kicked. in the reelection campaign. But all of. this puts a real wrinkle in Blanche's. hopes of getting confirmed. Chairman of. the Judiciary Committee, Chuck Grassley, had scheduled the vote for tomorrow, but. today realized he couldn't get Cornyn to. say, "I do." Which means the vote is now. likely delayed until after the Senate's. August recess. Which could be big. trouble because who knows if Grassley. will even live that long. This man looks. like he is one brisk breeze away from. flatlining. But let's hear from Big John. himself. >> We made clear from the outset that we.

expected some written. proposals to modify the release. that was signed in the tax dispute with. President Trump and his. and his organization. For some reason, I. don't know whether it's the staff of the. DOJ or who it is, but they simply. they know what they need to do, but they. simply refuse to do it. >> Yes, who could it be? If only there was. some clue, some sign, just the tiniest.

morsel of evidence pointing us in the. direction of who could possibly be. behind this obstinance from the DOJ. But. alas, it remains a mystery. But for Todd Blanche, just getting. Texas's John Cornyn on his side won't be. good enough because now there's another. Did they say. they're going to respond to you by. >> I think they I think they realize now. that we're serious, and I think Senator. Tillis is pretty much on the same page. that I am. Tillis are in town and they're waiting. for a written document. And while we've. already heard bad boy John Cornyn lay. down the law, let's hear how the rough. and tumble Tom Tillis drops the hammer. on the DOJ. >> Well, I I I never I didn't. uh. neither established nor was I consulted. on a 4:00 deadline. to his decades-long career in politics. after Cornyn plugged your shitty book. and tried to name a road after. you is pretty good guess as to why he. might be mildly perturbed. The reality. is we should not be dubbing John Cornyn. and Tom Tillis courageous figures for. taking a stand against Blanche's. nomination. First of all, the only time. that members of the GOP seem to be able. to locate their spine is when they've. been fully excommunicated from their own. party and have nothing left to lose. That's not exactly peak bravery to tell. your boss you quit when you've already.

been fired. But more importantly, the fact that. anyone is applauding this line in the. sand over Blanche's nomination just. highlights how low the bar is. for Republicans. Donald Trump tried to. shake down the Treasury for $10 billion. and then with the help of his former. personal criminal defense attorney, deigned to settle that suit with a mere. $1.8 billion anti-weaponization fund. because he believes these victims. deserve compensation. And while Cornyn.

somehow believes he should be carried. off the field on people's shoulders for. that, the bigger story is how the. majority of Republicans in Congress seem. to be perfectly fine with this insane. slush fund. You know, the same way. they'd be totally fine with a Democrat. in the White House creating a. multi-billion dollar fund to compensate. anybody targeted as a result of their. involvement with the NAACP, ACLU, or. Planned Parenthood. Obviously. But of. course, they're fine with it because it. feeds into this narrative that they and. their insurrectionist fans are the.

victims. And playing victim is all the. GOP knows how to do. Republicans didn't. lose the election in 2020, they were. victims of election fraud. They weren't. being kept safe during the pandemic, they were victims of Anthony Fauci's. pro-mask regime. And when comedians. called out the blatant corruption that. we're all witnessing in real time, Republicans are the victims of media. bias. But the great irony is. while the GOP claims to be victims and. almost unanimously supports Todd. Blanche's nomination, there are literal.

victims being ignored by him. >> The meeting was. very condescending. It was a lot of. talking in circles. It was a lot of. arguing semantics and not a lot of. actually getting to the core points. We. went in with quite a few points. that we we needed answers to. We needed. answers to why Ghislaine Maxwell was. moved. We needed answers to why. investigative leads haven't been. followed or even brought, you know, Comer's office just made two referrals. Why aren't we following those referrals? They came from your own party.

And basically we walked away with. absolutely no answers and it felt like a. very no-win situation. >> Huh. Maybe that is reason enough that. this man shouldn't be confirmed as our. nation's top law enforcement official. But hey, what do I know? I'm just a dude. who thinks pedophilia is bad. Surely. Todd Blanche and Donald Trump have some. very serious and profound reason that. they're continuing to run cover for. those very people. The truth is that Todd Blanche doesn't. care about Epstein's victims anymore. than he cares about enforcing the law, and every single Republican knows that.
