Michelle Obama EMBARRASSES Trump at Obama Center opening

You were unflappable. at every turn. Always focused. Always calm. Always looking at the long view. How absurd it is to even imagine. that you might have buckled under the. pressure even once. Lashed out in frustration. Lost your temper.

How absurd it is to imagine that you. might have done anything. but make our family and this entire. country proud. No, you you were too busy. >> [cheering]. >> I'm not done, y'all.

>> [applause]. >> Not done. So much to say. You were doing the people's work. Rescuing our economy. Expanding health care. Ending a war. Ordering the Bin Laden raid. Saving an. auto industry. Winning a peace prize. >> [cheering]. >> Now, I don't think it's lost on anyone.

that when Michelle Obama mentioned. winning a peace prize, it got just a. little bit more emphasis than the rest. of her husband, Barack Obama's. accomplishments. Now, I'm actually here. in Chicago. I watched the ceremony live. I can attest everyone in the audience. knew what she was implying. I should. also note that while no one actually. mentioned Donald Trump's name anywhere. at today's ceremony, there were a few. instances that put his subservience to. Obama on full display. Chief among them, the peace prize line, but also this. >> Eight years in the crucible.

and not once did you melt from the heat. Not once did you let it harden you. Instead, you used it to reveal your truest. essence. Your stubborn optimism and unflinching. courage, your dazzling brilliance, and unpretentious decency, your ferocious work ethic, and.

absolutely unshakable moral fiber. >> [applause]. >> And to do it all. as a first. and the higher standard that comes with. all that. The claims that a US senator and. constitutional law expert wasn't. qualified for the job, the lies about your birthright, your. faith, your patriotism, the outrage when.

you stated the biological fact that if. you'd had a son that he too would be. black. Yet, you were unflappable. at every turn. >> So, a few points here. The first is. that, look, I am a white guy in a world. where white men have every opportunity, every advantage afforded to them. I'm. not going to pretend that I know how. difficult it was for Barack Obama to not. only achieve the heights he achieved, but to do so knowing that in effect his.

entire race would be represented by the. success or failure of this one man. And. man, did he succeed. As Michelle Obama. says, despite the quote, "Lies about. your birthright, your faith, your. patriotism, the outrage when you stated. the biological fact that if you'd had a. son that he too would be black, yet you. were unflappable at every turn." Again, I presume that it was hard enough to be. the first black man to be president. I. presume the pressure to do so perfectly. was a heavy burden to carry, but I know. for a fact that the onslaught that he.

contended with on a daily basis from. Fox, from right-wing media, and from. Trump himself was relentless. Unflappable is the perfect word to. describe his response to it. And yet, this is. what the right does. The same way they. tried to other Barack Obama, "He's not. even American. Where's his birth. certificate?" They do it to trans people. now. A few years ago it was gay people. Before that was migrant caravans and. brown people. The boogeyman will always.

change, but the through line is clear. Republicans rely on inciting culture. wars and pitting people against each. other because if we weren't fighting. each other based on petty, shallow. differences, we would realize that the. real enemy here is a class of people in. this country who lie, cheat, and steal. Sound like anybody you know? The real. enemy are the people who engage in open. corruption because they view themselves. as being above the law. Sound like. anyone you know? The real enemy are the. people who commit heinous crimes against. children and then cover up their.

participation. Sound like anyone you. know? The real enemy are those who climb. the ranks of power and wealth before. pulling up the ladder behind them. Sound. like anyone you know? That's who our. focus should be on because those people. represent a tiny, minuscule fraction of. this country, but they represent the. vast majority of influence and money and. power. So, they can purchase the media, the airwaves, the social media. platforms. They can control what we see. and read and hear. And most importantly, they can dictate who we hate. They can.

amplify the rage and the division. through algorithms. Trump is not the. world's first demagogue, but he is a. demagogue nonetheless. And just like. those before him, he will exploit our. divisions for his own personal and. political gain. But that's easy. Appealing to our basest in stinks is. easy. What is hard is doing the work of. uniting people despite so much of that. division. That's the hard work. That's. the stuff that separates demagogues. whose movements will be replaced and. ultimately forgotten from the ones who. appeal to our better angels and remember.

the ideals that this country was founded. on. I think we all know who's who in. this scenario. And I'll finally end with. this, Barack Obama's reaction to. Michelle's tribute. >> To Michelle. >> Oh, yeah. >> All right. She did me wrong. She wouldn't let me see her speech. She knew she was going to mess me up. and she did it anyway. But she's always made me better.
