INSANE: Republican announcement ROCKS Washington | Another Day
Senator Bill Cassidy announces which way. he'll vote on Todd Blanche's nomination. for Attorney General. And if you can. guess where he landed, you're probably. right. This is just another day. As Congress gears up to take their. August recess, Todd Blanche's nomination. to be America's next Attorney General. hangs by the slimmest of threads. Blanche can only afford to lose two. votes from Republicans and still be. confirmed. So, let's see where things. stand. >> Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski says. she will oppose Todd Blanche's.
confirmation for Attorney General. >> Oh. My god, that's. that's one. >> Republican Senator Susan Collins of. Maine announced last night that she will. vote against Blanche's confirmation. >> Holy we've we've got two, which. means it all comes down to Louisiana. Senator Bill Cassidy, a physician, a man. of science. Sir, doctor, you have before. you a chance to be a legend of the. Senate and a hero for the American. people, an opportunity to take a stand. against rubber-stamping the promotion of.
a pedophile protector. William Cassidy, the power to do what's right rests in. your hands and your hands alone. >> And now we have that answer after days. of asking Ariel that Bill Cassidy will. vote for Todd Blanche to become the. permanent Attorney General. >> [groaning]. >> I haven't been this shocked since I. learned smoking is bad for you and the. people around you. But, since we're. here, and by here I mean exactly where I. knew we'd be all along, let's hear from.
the man himself on how he arrived at. this decision. >> Mr. President, I rise today to speak to. the nomination of Todd Blanche to be. Attorney General. Let's start with the. concerns. Mr. Blanche showed poor. judgment in approving the. anti-weaponization slush fund and. exempting the president from IRS audits. No American should be unfairly targeted. by the law, but no American should be. above the law. Mr. Blanche said these. were mistakes and he has made efforts to. kill the slush fund. >> Did you notice what was wasn't said. there? Cassidy said Blanche showed poor.
judgment by approving the slush fund and. exempting Trump from IRS audits, but. that Blanche has made efforts to kill. the slush fund and then said jack. about the audits, which means both of. those things are very much alive. Todd. Blanche has made efforts to kill those. things in the same way that I have made. efforts to rein in my overgrown facial. hair in that I say it's something I want. to do, but I don't mean it and I had. taken zero meaningful steps to do it. But those weren't the only. rationalizations that Senator Bill. Cassidy put forth on the Senate floor.
today. >> I will also note that Mr. Blanche is. criticized for things over which he has. no control. He points out that he has been. criticized for presidential pardons. given to January 6th rioters, some of whom assaulted police officers. Many of us were here then, but this is a presidential prerogative. and he is not the president. >> You're right. He is. Trump is the one. who deemed cop-beating insurrectionists. should be pardoned, but Todd Blanche. authored the settlement agreement that. sought to turn those insurrectionists. into millionaires. You don't get one.
without the other. In the same way that. you don't get to be the daughter of. Donald Trump without having a dad who. wants to you. But hey, at the end. of the day, I guess you got to respect a. senator who at least has the confidence. of his convictions behind him. >> I'll be criticized for this vote. What's. new? But. the people of Louisiana.
can be assured. that I worked hard to understand the. issue. and to make the right decision. With that, I yield. >> Uh I'm sorry, but are you crying? Bill, I don't want to be the one to break it. to you, but you are not the victim here. The Americans who will suffer as the. result of your actions are the victims. You are actually the only one who has a. choice to do the right thing. But hey,
what do I know? I'm no doctor. Although. as it turns out, Senator Cassidy is as. well. And earlier this year, he. diagnosed that America was being led. astray on the topic of public health. >> We now have a long-time vaccine skeptic. who is running HHS. Who in private practice sued. vaccine makers. Um. how much harm has he done or do you. believe that he has restored trust in. public health as as you thought he might. do? >> Well, he has not restored trust in. public health and you can see the.
administration, if you believe the press. accounts, are trying to limit his range. of activity. Polling shows that the. American people understand that vaccines. are important and for someone to be out. there saying that they're not goes. against their experience. >> Gosh, if only Bill Cassidy could have. prevented RFK Jr. from ever running HHS. in the first place. >> Well, today Louisiana's Republican. senior Senator Bill Cassidy cast a key. affirmative vote to advance Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s nomination for Secretary. of Health and Human Services. >> Well, would you look at that? I wonder.
who cried more from that vote, Bill. Cassidy or the thousands of people who. are suffering from Cyclospora induced. explosive diarrhea thanks to RFK being. in charge of our lettuce. No, tell Cheryl, but if you're looking. to crunch on something green, don't. sleep on deep-fried iguana. This is so disappointing for a whole. host of reasons. One being, if Cassidy. had the balls to vote no, the only other. senator who could have saved Todd. Blanchett's nomination would have been. this man. A guy clinging to life in. Kentucky like a cat in one of those.
inspirational posters, which means we. missed out on getting to watch the. greatest act of desperation by. Republicans. ever. Do you know how amazing it would. have been to see a pair of Republican. staffers prop up Mitch McConnell Weekend. at Bernie's style, drive him. cross-country, and drag his limp body. through the halls of Congress all so. that Republicans could get Todd Blanche. over the finish line and appease their. cult leader of a president? Bill Cassidy. took that away from us, and for that. we should never forgive him.
But also, what is now abundantly clear. is that the no votes from Susan Collins. and Lisa Murkowski were not acts of. courage by independent maverick. senators, but instead highly. orchestrated acts that would give them. some political cover while ensuring that. Trump suffers zero actual consequences. Todd Blanche received just enough votes. to get confirmed. Lisa Murkowski is able. to pretend like she constantly stands up. to this administration, and Susan. Collins, who is currently trying to hold. onto her seat and trailing in the polls,
gets cover with voters who believe, rightfully so, that she sides with Trump. all the time. The reality is there are no heroes in. the GOP. Long gone are the days with. Republicans with spines or morals or. wisps of a conscience. The era of. putting loyalty to country over loyalty. to party is long over. Bill Cassidy had. an opportunity to be a hero today, but. instead, he'll go down as just another. Republican who bent over backwards to. appease the most corrupt president in. modern American history. And of all the.
people who would have had a reason to. not reward Donald Trump, Cassidy is. definitely near the top of that list. >> Sources say Trump lashed out at senators. who had voted symbolically to limit his. war powers. Trump reportedly calling. Louisiana Senator Bill Cassidy a. lunatic. >> President celebrated Senator Cassidy's. defeat on social media. You see it here, right in quote, "His disloyalty to the. man who got him elected is now a part of. legend, and it's nice to see that his. political career is over.".
>> Donald Trump trashed you, forced you out. of your job by endorsing your opponent, celebrated your unemployment, and you. return the favor by giving him. everything he wants. And why? Because. Senator Cassidy knows that the only. thing worse than voting your conscience. is becoming persona non grata in. Magaland months before you're about to. be unemployed. I mean, how could one. expect to earn the big bucks as a GOP. lobbyist if you dared to disobey a. single one of dear leader's commands? Just as he did before, Bill Cassidy let.
millions of Americans down with his vote. today. And while I rarely agree with the. president, on this point it's nice to. see that his political career [snorts]. is over. I couldn't agree more. >> [music]. >> Before you go, one quick request. It's. become clear to me that this White House. is dead set on preventing me from. reaching any audience. Trump's decision. to put me as the first name on his. enemies list is a testament to that. But. it didn't quiet down then, and I won't. do it now.
