HUGE OVATION as Olympic champion SPEAKS OUT against Trump
Don't mean to detract from the. celebration, but curious if you had any. further comments, anything else you'd. like to add about that? No, I just. thought the the joke was distasteful um. and unfortunate. And I think, you know, just. the way women are represented, it's a. great teaching point uh to really shine. light on how women um should be. championed for their amazing feats. And. now I have to sort of sit and anybody. has to sit in front of you and explain. someone else's behavior. It's not my. responsibility. Um. so.
>> [cheering]. >> um. >> [applause]. >> But what is is shifting the focus and. shifting the narrative of this amazing. accomplishment that we all did together. And granted the men's and the women's. team did it together, and that is super. special. It's never been done in our. program's history. It's something we're. extremely proud about. Um but these. women are amazing. And whatever is going. on shouldn't never outshine or minimize. their work and our success on the world. stage. This was. the best American women's hockey team,
the best American team we've ever put. together on a world stage when the light. is when the the lights have been the. brightest ever. And so I think everybody. felt that, you know, going through the. tournament. And I want to celebrate. I. want people to be remembered for that. I. want the legacy of this this team to be. remembered. And so that's what I'm. trying to, you know, shift the narrative. on and really focus in championing what. we've done and what we've accomplished. the last two and a half weeks together. >> [applause].
>> That was Hilary Knight, captain of the. US women's Olympic hockey team, who to. her point, I should note right off the. bat, deserves a huge amount of credit. along with the rest of the women's. hockey team and the men's hockey team. for taking home the gold. The problem. here emerged when Kash Patel and Donald. Trump decided to politicize the hockey. team's win by doing this. >> [cheering].
[music]. [music].
>> I just told many people 2 minutes ago I. didn't tell them they'd be coming. I. said, "We're giving the State of the. Union speech on Tuesday night. I can. send a military plane or something, but. if you would like to" I said, "Well, it's the coolest night. It's the biggest. Pick us up in Miami on Tuesday morning? Yeah, Tuesday morning. Close the. northern border.
We'll get the cash and we'll get the. military and get you guys over to I'm. going to GET LET'S GO. BOYS, WE'RE GOING TO THE STATE OF THE. UNION. THE NICE THING ABOUT being. president is I can tell you you don't. have to worry about the weather or. landing. >> [laughter]. >> IT'S SNOWING SO we don't care if it's. snowing if it's a blizzard. >> [cough and clears throat]. >> We'll be sailing through that stuff just. like you did at the S-. Thank you, Mr. President. Now, we'll do it at the White House. anyway, but.
what would really be cool and we'll do. the White House the next day. We'll just. have some fun. We have medals for you. guys. And we have to I must tell you. we're going to have to bring the women's. team. You do know that. Yeah, I do believe I probably would be. impeached, okay? >> [laughter]. >> And look, should the men have laughed at. that joke? No. But, these are hockey. players. I think it's fair to hold. hockey players to a different standard. than the President of the United States. The fact that Trump is so insecure that.
he felt the need to put the women down. so that he could feel cool in some. fleeting moment goes to show how deeply. broken this man's brain is. And not only. that, because he felt the need to put. the men in that position, now the story. surrounding the Olympic gold medal teams. is this, instead of their wins. That. only happened because Donald Trump and. Kash Patel needed to be the center of. attention. This was an unforced error. owed entirely to the fact that these. people do not know how to allow other. people to celebrate their own wins.
without making themselves the story. And. don't take it from me, take it from one. of the guys who advocated for Trump. Kash Patel thing is so annoying because. it's just like, can you just let them. have a victory? You know, the. second you It's so selfish. Like, the. second you insert yourself in the room, it becomes culture war. Yeah. And it's. like, let America have this great. victory. These guys played their. asses off. It's a dream win for the. men's and the women's team. If you're in. the locker room drinking beers because. you're a big hockey fan, it's this. completely selfish endeavor that puts.
these guys under the microscope. Mhm. Right? Like, instead of being somebody. we could all celebrate, if they're. treating Kash as if he's like one of the. guys, now everybody just goes, "Look at. these pieces of not judging Kash. Patel for being there and all the things. that he's been supporting." It's just. like, just stay the out of it. You. just stay the out of it. He's. cheesy, corny, bro. Who, Kash Patel? Yeah. Yeah, you saying the guy who. wanted to be the FBI director is corny? >> [laughter]. >> You're saying the guy who wanted to spy. on people for a living is is not a cool. guy? Guys, I'm really I just don't like.
this. He's always He He wants too much. attention. Like, just be behind and lock up. criminals. Yeah. Also, I don't like them having a. life. Yeah. >> [laughter]. >> Like, anybody that like has like a. little hobbies and Like, I don't. really got enough time to be partying. >> Yeah. Be respectful, do that in. private, like on an Epstein Island or. something [laughter] like that. But, like There was an island. Yeah. I don't. want to see that. >> Yeah. There was an island where they. could have fun, the elites. And of. course, because this White House has no.
filter and no concept of when something. is too much, they further screwed the. men's team by posting an AI video onto. their Tik Tok depicting one of the US. players disparaging the Canadian team, which forced that American player to. then have to push back saying, "Quote, I. know those words would never come out of. my mouth." In fact, this whole episode. has put the team in a bind. Here's. Charlie McAvoy apologizing. I think um. you know, just certainly sorry for how. we responded to it in that moment. Um. you know, things that just happened. really quick there.
And and if you know the men's team and. if you know the relationships that we. have, the amount of time that we've. spent, you know, with the women's team. and how we've supported them, it's. certainly not reflective of of how we. feel and look at them and their. accomplishments. Um. what they did was unbelievable. You. know, kind of like I said, we had this. third floor there um you know, in the. village and it was kind of you know, there's some of the women's team there, the trainers' room where everybody was. at all times, so men and women's team, like. just made friends for life with them. We.
supported them um the same way that they. supported us. So, we we share this. together. I know that and I know that. I'm pretty confident they they know how. I feel about them and and what they've. been able to accomplish and you know, the way that they did it too, with how. dominant they played. Um I think America. should be so proud of them for their. accomplishment, for sure. Think about how insane it is that this. is now the discourse surrounding the. incredible, unprecedented feats of men. and women both bringing home the gold, all because the President of the United.
States is too much of a manchild to. understand what he should or shouldn't. say. And frankly, it's not like his. garbage character is a surprise to. anyone, which is why the call should. have never happened. It's why Kash Patel. should have never been partying in the. locker room like that goober actually. did anything. And it's why whoever's in. charge should have never let it get to. that point as Megan Rapinoe explained. here. I know what happens in those. locker rooms. Yeah, same. People get. brought in. >> Oh, same. You have no say sometimes. >> of a sudden it's happening. You're in.
That's a great point. You're in and. you're like part of the truth. Like all of a sudden you're shaking the. hand. of whoever. >> someone that you've railed on because. like they're you know doing inequality. against you whatever for them just to. put it bluntly. The choice point. and I don't know exactly who made this. Is it someone at USA Hockey? No, it came. out the GM of US Hockey is also the GM. of the Wild and I read an article and I. guess. what what what I was wasn't clear on he.
might be friends with Kash Patel or like. somebody and I think that was the. connecting point. Okay. Fine, whatever. The choice point is. allowing yourself and listen. if I always say this like I can't. believe how much how people have such a. like a lack of self-preservation. But if. you don't think you're in threat then. you're not going to preserve. So they. obviously didn't think that having Kash. Patel or having Trump on the on the. phone was a was a threat. So they're. cool with it. But that's why you don't put yourself in.
this position because to have the. president of the United States on the. phone and he's like. it's hard not to be like. you know like you get yourself wrapped. in this moment. So for me the choice point is like. I. would have never as a. captain or a leader on my team. I think. you can say the same. I think that would have been clear to. our staffs and to the larger. organization and like support staff.
Those people would never be allowed in. our locker room. And it's pretty. pathetic when the question has to be. what are the risks of allowing the. president of the United States to speak. openly with us? What do we risk losing. by virtue of engaging with this guy? How. will this person sully our reputation or. the news cycle surrounding our win? But. that's how it is when the president is. Donald Trump. And just like everything. else that he touches, what should be a. great moment is instead mired in. controversy all because this White House. decided to turn things political and. doesn't have enough tact to not on.
other American champions to make. themselves feel better. So let this be a lesson when it comes to. Trump. You stand to gain nothing and to. lose everything. >> [music]. >> Before you go, if you enjoyed this. content and you want to see more and. support independent media, please. subscribe to this channel.
