Feud ERUPTS on air between Brian Tyler Cohen and MAGA host
My husband is a legal immigrant. He came. to the United States from England uh. back in 2018. He did everything the. right way. I would describe my husband, I mean, I guess fully Brit, although now. has his green card in the process for. citizenship. Uh I would describe him as. more American than a lot of Americans. who are currently citizens. He loves. this country. He understands the. freedoms that we have. He sees the. trajectory of England. Quite frankly, he. is so grateful to be here. Uh to your. point, I do think our legal immigration.
system certainly needs reform. I think. that process needs to be sped up and. made more efficient. Uh but my husband, he respects ICE officers. I I don't. understand what what is with this. conservative movement to qualify. somebody's Americanness. Who are you to. say that somebody is more or less. American because of because of their. adherence to certain political issues? That is isn't that inherently. unamerican? I guess my question for you. is then just that what is an American to. you?
>> If if it's whatever you want to be. We. have freedom to do to do to believe in. to say to practice whatever religion we. want to. >> And so it's so bizarre to me for you to. say, "Oh, my husband my husband is more. American because he salutes the flag and. likes ICE officers." Who are you? Who. who who is your husband to determine. whether somebody is more or less. American because of who they who they. support? If your definition to what is an. American is anything you want to be, whoever says whatever they want to be. can be an American, which is the exact. same answer you guys give to the.
question, the very dreaded controversial. question of what is a woman? Then are. you saying that someone who currently. resides in South Africa, who has never. even been to America, who says they are. an American? I guess by your definition, >> this is such a this is such a bad faith. reading of what I'm saying. My my my. question for you, but that was your. exact answer. You said your husband is. more American than somebody else because. he supports ICE agents. So explain to me. how supporting ICE agents makes you more. American than somebody who doesn't. support ICE agents. >> My husband has fully assimilated to.
Western culture. He loves the freedom. >> So that's what it is. It's assimilate. So it's assimilation. You you have to. assimilate otherwise you're not. American. According according to Riley. Gaines, if you're not if you didn't. assimilate enough, you're not American. >> I think in terms of what it means to. principally I'm not talking about. legally, of course. I understand the. argument of you need your paperwork, you. need to be a citizen to be an American. >> That was my debate on Piers Morgan show. with right-wing personality Riley. Gaines, who is famous for coming in. fifth place in a swim meet and has made.
her personality complaining about trans. people, where I contend that Donald. Trump's entire State of the Union speech. was a big 2024 election redux where he. pivots from affordability to the. triedand-true tradition of vilifying. immigrants instead. And of course, his. mouthpieces and right-wing media were. perfectly content to heed his calls, which is why Gaines picks up where Trump. left off in his characteristically. xenophobic State of the Union speech, denying immigrants Americanness if she. doesn't feel that they're adequately. assimilated. And she brings up the idea.
that her husband has fully assimilated. And I have to say, I find it so. interesting that the party of small. government, the party of government so. small you could drown it in a bathtub, the party of don't tread on me has now. become so big, so overbearing that they. have gone from limited government to a. government that polices everything. everyone does or says. And if you're not. adequately assimilated, as far as. they're concerned, then they will be the. first ones to deny you your citizenship, your Americanness. And of course, who.
gets to decide who's American enough? Well, clearly that would be Republicans, which probably means some combination of. white, Christian, conservative. Convenient, huh? These people have made. themselves the arbiters of who is or is. not American. And if you don't pass. their litmus test, then apparently. they've ordained themselves the judge of. who can or can't be in this country. And. I got to say, as just a side note, it is. kind of funny that Gaines says that her. husband has fully assimilated to Western. culture. Dude is from Britain. Uh, I get.
that it's a whole continent away, but. come on. I'm pretty sure that A, Britain. qualifies as Western culture, and B, it's not very difficult to assimilate to. American culture if you're from the. country that we were literally born out. of. It's like Tom Brady assimilating to. Florida culture when he left the. Patriots. It's not exactly playing. football on Mars. I think he could. manage the move. But it's clear why. Trump and his mouthpieces are all. pivoting to immigration. It's because. vilifying others, other people is all.
they have left. Culture wars are all. they have left. These people have full. control of government, House, Senate, White House, and yet they are so. incapable of governing that they need to. run back their old campaign narratives. because they can't run on their records. right now. So instead of being able to. say we made promises and kept them. because they can't say that, they have. to pivot to the trusty old immigrant. bashing so that everybody will be good. and distracted. In fact, that's not the. only distraction. We are on the brink of. war with Iran for some reason. All at.
the hands of a president who swore up. and down during the campaign that the. time for foreign intervention and. forever wars abroad was over. And that's. a point that I brought up on Piers's. show as well. if there was to be a large. attack on Iran, you know, if you're a. MAGA voter, uh, and you're looking at. that, you're thinking, well, I thought. we weren't going to get involved in. foreign wars. I thought that was the. whole point of America first. If it was. to unravel an attack on Iran, and once. you start these kind of wars, it's very.
hard to predict the way they go. If it. was to unravel, that alone could unseat. Donald Trump. Well, if if I could respond to that, Piers, of of course that there's that is. not going to serve as a red line for for. these Republicans because they'll come. in claiming that they want America first. and then Trump saber rattles against. Iran, which I thought 5 minutes ago he. just decimated their nuclear. capabilities and now 5 minutes later we. have to do we have to we're in a. situation where we're going to have to. see the same exact thing that didn't. push, you know, some of these.
Republicans, including I'm sure my my. fellow co-panelists here away from. Donald Trump. The fact that he went into. Venezuela. oil so that he could heap oil onto. American oil companies in a George W. Bush redux that didn't push these. Republicans away. Say rattling against. Panama and Colombia and any other. countries. Look, the reality is that. that Donald Trump will engage in these. distractions, but he wouldn't need to. engage in these distractions if to your. earlier point, he was able to deliver. what he promised, which was a more.
affordable America. He's not. He is the. sole impediment to delivering. affordability because he wanted to. engage in a trade war that serves as a. consumption tax on Americans. He wanted. to cut Medicaid and ACA subsidies that. makes healthc care more affordable in. America. He wanted to cut food. assistance that makes food more. affordable in America. The thing. standing in in the way of Trump. delivering his promises is Donald Trump. himself. And so he'll engage in plenty. of distractions, but the reality is that. all of the foreign wars in the world,
all of the wagging the wagging the dog. in the world is not going to um pull the. wall over Americ's eyes when they were. told that they were voting for something. and instead got something entirely. different. So look, the reality is that. all of this is the same tired old. playbook by a political party that is. too unwilling to govern in accordance. with their promises. And so they have to. pivot to culture war issues and. distractions every single time. It is. why we have migrant caravans. It's why. we have immigrants eating cats and dogs. It's why we have saber rattling in the.
Middle East and South America and. everywhere else Donald Trump can find on. a map. It's because they have no record. to run on. And so what we're left with. instead are culture wars and. distractions. Americans do not care who. Riley Gaines thinks is adequately. American. They care about being able to. afford their homes, their rent, their. bills, their food, and their medicine. Republicans have failed on every single. one of those fronts. That's what people. care about. And anybody trying to. deflect your attention elsewhere is. fully aware of that failure, but would.
rather run cover for a loser president. than fight to keep America affordable. for the Americans who live here.
