Trump's cuts to the FDA have Americans. themselves, literally. This is just another day. >> [music]. >> If you've been steering clear of lettuce. over the past few weeks, or are trapped. in a bathroom because you didn't, there's an update in America's salad. gate. >> The FDA on Monday doubled down on its. identification of Taylor Farms as the. source of the Cyclospora outbreak, saying its traceback investigation. continues to converge on shredded. iceberg lettuce from Taylor Farms.

locations in Central Mexico. >> Got it. So, Taylor Farms, not to be. confused with Taylor Farms, where. Swifties have been breeding clones of. their favorite pop icon, seems to be the. culprit in this outbreak, specifically. their farm in Central Mexico. And I hate. to bring this up, but is it possible. that some of those farmers south of the. border did not take kindly to this piece. of international diplomacy from a few. years past? >> When Mexico sends its people, they're. not sending their best. They're not. sending you. They're not sending you.

They're sending people that have lots of. problems, and they're bringing those. problems with us. They're bringing drugs. They're bringing. crime. They're rapists. And some, I. assume, are good people. >> So, yes, there could be an accidental. viral outbreak, or after a decade of. extreme patience, some Mexican farm. workers may have finally launched. Operation Burning. But there are big questions all.

Americans are asking right now. Questions besides, when will my anus. heal? Where to buy 12-ply toilet paper? And how big a scented candle is too big? So, am I. missing something? >> In an effort to reduce spending, the. federal government has made cuts to. public health programs like FoodNet, a. pathogen surveillance system, but health. officials say it has not impacted this. investigation. >> The CDC is scaling back this critical. program called FoodNet. It's been a. partnership between the federal. government in 10 different state health. departments in some form since 1995 and.

it's tracked around eight different. pathogens historically. Now we're down. to two. This was a program that was. actually going out conducting surveys, finding out how common these illnesses. were in the population. Without that. data, we're just going to be missing. some cases and we won't have a full. picture of who's getting sick and under. what circumstances. >> In other words, we are experiencing the. exact thing people warned about. At this. point, being surprised that America is. experiencing a literal shitstorm is like. being surprised when Mitch McConnell's.

office releases their next proof of life. photo. But that's not to say there isn't. confusion around this outbreak. Yep, turns out like our lettuce, the answers. surrounding America's weeks-long bout. with Cyclospora aren't so easy to. digest. >> An admission of a mistake and an apology. is what Taylor Farms says it got from. the FDA over the weekend. >> The FDA is walking back claims that the. lettuce sample from California-based. Taylor Farms tested positive for. Cyclospora, the parasitic infection that. causes explosive diarrhea.

>> Now, while I'm still shocked every time. I get to hear a news anchor say the. words explosive diarrhea on camera, I'm. even more taken aback when I hear that. the Trump administration issued an. apology for anything. This White House. wouldn't even issue an apology to. Epstein's victims when they were in the. same room, but Taylor Farms gets an I'm. sorry? But look, hey, I get it. Trump has. always been a champion for our farmers, so I'm sure it's that and absolutely. nothing else.

>> Forbes magazine has pointed out a. financial link between Taylor Farms, also known as Taylor Fresh Foods, and. the MAGA movement. Financial disclosure. forms from the MAGA super PAC showed. last year they received a donation from. Taylor Fresh Foods for $1 million around. the time the FDA announced it was. delaying a new food tracing rule. News 4. reached out to the super PAC, the FDA, and Taylor Fresh Foods to ask about. this, but we have not heard back. >> Haven't heard back, huh? Has anyone.

checked the bathroom? So, just to put this donation to the. president's PAC into perspective, Donald. Trump, who has $4 billion to his name, is now being accused of looking the. other way on a company because it gave. him a million dollars, which to the. average American who earns $60,000 a. year is the equivalent of a bribe for. $15, which wouldn't even be enough to buy a. single movie ticket to watch this piece. of Oscar-worthy cinema. The reality is. no one truly knows if Taylor Farms paid.

off the president and his super PAC in. the hopes of getting favorable treatment. by Trump's FDA, which may or may not. come in the form of the announcement of. a false positive, and that's the whole. point. When you engage in an endless. parade of corruption, no one knows what. to believe. And when you have lost basic. trust with the American people, when the. societal contract between the government. and those the government serves falls. apart, you have clearly failed as a. leader. Because if we can't trust the. FDA to tell us whether or not our Taco. Bell Crunchwrap Supreme is actually a.

diarrhea supreme or at least more than. normal, then what other assurances from. the federal government can't we trust? When Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy. tells us it's safe to drive a Toyota or. to fly on United Airlines, is that. actually true or is he just saying that. because those companies paid for his. reality show Family Road Trip? When the. FDA tells Americans that the nicotine. levels in e-cigarettes have been. properly vetted, can we believe them? Or. are they just saying that because Big. Tobacco donated $5 million to Trump's.

super PAC? And when HHS tells us that. Americans in our nursing homes are being. properly cared for with the right amount. of nurses and staff, should we take them. at their word or are they just saying. that because nursing home executives who. donated to Trump's super PAC urged them. to repeal a law requiring a minimum. amount of staff? When there is a pattern. of corruption, it's impossible to know. what to believe. But it feels like the. only real truth is that Donald Trump. will sacrifice millions of people's. health and safety for millions of.

dollars in his own pocket. This. president is a grifter of the highest. order. Trump pardoned the founder of. Nikola as a thank you for donating. almost $2 million to his re-election. campaign. He pardoned venture capital. investor and fellow major donor Ahmad. Zuberi. He pardoned Paul Manafort a. wealthy tax cheat after Manafort's mom. attended a fundraiser at Mar-a-Lago. And. he pardoned CZ, the former CEO of. Binance, whose company was found guilty. of money laundering but also happened to. be a major investor in the Trump family. crypto business. money-hungry con man who will screw over. anyone and everyone if it means that his. pockets get fatter and he gets to. accumulate more power.
