Brian Tyler Cohen poised to CLASH with JD Vance

I generally don't make personal videos, but I'm going to make one here. So, 2. years ago, I released my first book. Shameless, and it reached number one on. the New York Times bestseller list, which to be honest was a dream come. true. I'm an English major. Hitting that. spot was a major life goal. But, just as. exciting for me was who I unseated in. hitting number one. So, take a look at. the New York Times bestseller list for. that week, and look at the number two. spot. It's J.D. Vance and his book. Hillbilly Elegy. Not going to pretend. unseating Vance and getting the number. one spot over him didn't feel good. Now.

to the new stuff. I'm publishing a new. book called The Day After, which is. available now for pre-order. Comes out. officially on July 14th. But, right on. cue, J.D. Vance has just released his. own book this past week, and lo and. behold, this is the New York Times. bestseller list this week with J.D. Vance at number one, which means I have. the opportunity to again do what I once. did before, which is to unseat J.D. Vance. But, before I ask you to pre-order this.

book and spend your hard-earned money, which frankly I feel deeply. uncomfortable doing, and which is why I. don't paywall a single piece of my. content, I think I owe it to you to give. you a compelling reason why. So, here's. why I wrote this book. We are not. teetering on the brink of autocracy, we're in it. And we're watching right. now as Trump and Republicans are. attempting to consolidate power. permanently. He tried to sign an illegal. executive order banning mail-in voting. solely because Democrats. disproportionately use it. He's holding. his own promised housing bill hostage to.

try and force the Senate to pass the. Save America Act, which would make. voting exponentially more difficult, especially for married women, and put. the federal government in charge of the. very documents that would be needed to. vote. He's forcing USPS not to deliver. mail ballots, which a judge just blocked. for now, and Republicans refuse to rule. out sending ICE to the polls in November. expressly to chill Americans into not. showing up to vote for fear of what. might happen to them at the hands of. these masked thugs. All of which is to. say, this is a Republican Party that is.

not interested in democracy. They are. authoritarians through and through, which means we do not have the luxury of. pretending that this is all politics as. usual. It's not. We pretend otherwise at. our own peril. Which means if and when. Democrats take power again, and I have. dedicated my life along with so many of. you to making sure that we do, they have to wield power immediately and. aggressively. They do not have the time. or luxury to write strongly worded. letters or impanel commissions that'll.

do their work over the course of 10. years before we get to a solution. Democrats need to act. They need to act. now, and in doing so, send a message to. Americans that that party is worth. supporting and voting for. I make the case in the book for. expanding the Supreme Court. because we cannot allow a rogue branch. of government to have permanent veto. power over every single law passed by. the left. I make the case for Medicare. for all because we can't allow people in. the richest country in the history of. the world to go bankrupt trying to stay.

alive. I make the case for strong action. on climate, on a just economy, for. pardon power reform, and finally, for. accountability for those who are engaged. in so much corruption right now. Our. inability or unwillingness to hold. criminals accountable only further. emboldens them emboldens them to commit. more crimes in the future. We must not take the Merrick Garland. approach ever again because taking that. approach is exactly how we ended up in. this situation that we're in right now.

I believe at my core that this book will. help shape what comes next. I've been. fortunate enough to have the opportunity. to sit down with a lot of politicians. and leaders. This book can and should be. a blueprint for those people. And. obviously, if it's successful, then. that'll send a stronger message that we. need to forego the weak and feckless. Democratic Party of the past and adopt a. new party that is not afraid to fight. for what it believes in. So, to that end, I do hope that you'll. support my work.
