BREAKING UPDATE on Trump speech ATTACKING election results

In just a moment, you're going to see my. interview with Senator Jon Ossoff. Now, I thought it was important to preface. this interview with some background. because this is important. Donald Trump. is set to address the nation, and. according to a report out of Georgia, he's planning to use that speech to. declare that the 2020 election results. in the state were fraudulent, which. would mean, in his telling, that. Senators Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock. are illegitimate. Now, whether he says. those exact words or not almost doesn't. matter because here's what you need to. understand. This isn't really about.

relitigating 2020 in good faith. It's. not really even about Jon Ossoff or. Raphael Warnock. This is about laying. the predicate for something much bigger, and I want to walk you through exactly. what that is because if you don't see it. coming, you won't recognize it when it. arrives. For months now, Trump has been. building the infrastructure to seize. control of how elections are run in this. country. DOJ suing two dozen states for. their unredacted voter rolls, DHS. demanding access to run those rolls. through citizenship verification systems. that keep wrongly flagging eligible.

voters. You've got the Save America Act. sitting in Congress. that would disenfranchise millions of. Americans who don't happen to have a. passport sitting in a drawer, and. reporting out of the Washington Post. revealed that Donald Trump's allies have. literally drafted a 17-page executive. order that would let him declare a. national emergency over supposed foreign. election interference. An emergency that. would, in their own words, unlock. extraordinary presidential power over. voting. Here's the thing about a national. emergency though. You need a pretext.

You can't just wake up one day and. announce that you're seizing control of. elections because you feel like it. Even. this administration knows that. You need. a story. You need some kind of proof, however manufactured or debunked it is, that the system is broken and only the. president can fix it. That is exactly. what a fraud claim about Georgia gives. Trump. It doesn't need to hold up in. court. It doesn't need evidence. It just. needs to exist loudly enough and for. long enough that by the time the. midterms roll around, the election was.

stolen isn't some fringe theory anymore. It is the justification sitting right. there, ready to be invoked for whatever. comes next, which of course, in this. instance, would be federal control of. voter rolls, restrictions on how people. cast ballots, a national security. rationale for overriding state election. law entirely. And notice the timing here. Trump is. doing this now, five and a half years. after Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff. were sworn in. Right as Republicans are. staring down polling that shows them.

getting wiped out in the midterms. That's not a coincidence. When you can't. win on the merits, you change the rules. of the game. And to change the rules, you first have to convince people that. the game was already rigged against you. This is the same move that Trump ran in. Georgia in 2020. The same move that he's. been running about China or Venezuela or. whatever country he's landed on this. week interfering in the election, and it. is by design a self-fulfilling loop. Cry. fraud, use the cry of fraud to seize. power over elections, and then use that. power to make sure the next election.

the target of the claim that Trump may. make here in this speech, who has to run. for re-election this fall under whatever. rules Trump and his allies are trying to. impose. So, I went and interviewed. Senator Jon Ossoff to ask him what he. thinks Trump's actual end goal is here, what he's seeing the DOJ and DHS do in. Georgia's election systems, and what. Democrats are prepared to do about it. before it's too late. So, here's my. conversation with Senator Jon Ossoff. >> We're joined now by Senator Ossoff. Senator, you've been in the news in a. big way because now we have Donald Trump.

who is expected to come out in just a. couple of days and make a speech, and. there there are rumors that that the. speech is going to include this idea. that you have been that your election. was illegitimate or or tainted by fraud. What's your reaction to that? >> Let let's just uh. put aside the notion that the president. has any power to declare sitting US. senators illegitimate. Yeah, he he does. not. Uh but here's what's amazing to me. In Georgia, people are furious at this.

administration and not just Democrats. because it's so clear the president. doesn't care about the economic pain. Americans are feeling and he cares about. himself, lining his own pockets, building a ballroom. And what's he doing now? He's pivoting. from the ballroom to election denial and. conspiracy theories. Only a shrinking. share of his base believes him on any of. this, and he continues to demonstrate he. doesn't understand the depth of the hole.

he's dug for himself. He has lost the. trust of the American people. He's lost. the trust of people in Georgia. The flip. side of it is that. this is very dangerous stuff. I mean, we. can laugh about it and ridicule it, and. it is ridiculous and absurd, but he is. making it very clear that he intends to. abuse federal power. to try to interfere in the upcoming. election. And we need to make sure that. people are galvanized to turn out like. they have never turned out before. >> Do you think that we have the tools. necessary to make sure that he isn't.

able to interfere in upcoming elections? I know that, for example, Republicans. refuse to rule out the prospect of ICE. going to the polls. He continues to try. and pass the Save America Act, which. would basically be a federal. consolidation of state-run elections. And so, do you have confidence, as we. look toward midterms and beyond, that we. can have confidence in our elections. >> I I think that that this is a real. challenge, and it is the challenge of. our lifetimes. This is the most. important civic task that our generation. will ever have. It's to get out the vote.

like never before, but small, to protect. voting rights, to educate voters, to. navigate whatever obstacles are put in. their way, or see through whatever. misinformation is thrown at them. And in. Georgia, this will be the most crucial. and competitive Senate race in the. country. Remember that I'm the only. Democratic senator running for. re-election in a state with Donald Trump. won. your reaction to when Donald Trump, after having campaigned on this idea. that he was going to focus on regular. issues that impact Americans like rent. and housing and groceries, was handed on. a silver platter a housing bill that is. own party had advanced, bipartisan, but. his own party had participated in. advancing that bill, refused to sign it. because he wanted and said use it as a. hostage to again try and pass a law that. would ultimately just be a federal. takeover of elections. >> Yeah, that this is all part of the great.

betrayal of MAGA. He promised his. movement that he would be for the. working man and the working woman. He. promised his movement that he would. drain the swamp. Right? Instead, this is. government of, by, and for the elite and. the ultra-rich. They have slashed. Medicaid and jacked up people's health. insurance premiums in order to cut taxes. for the ultra-wealthy and for corporate. America. He promised that he would. extract America from foreign. entanglements and foreign wars, and.

instead, he's getting sucked deeper into. the quicksand of his quagmire in the. Strait of Hormuz. So, his refusal to. sign a bill aimed at lowering the cost. of housing. because instead what he wants is. national voter suppression legislation. is just a demonstration of how out of. touch he is, why he's so unpopular, but. also why he remains dangerous. >> Is that breaking through? I mean, you. just mentioned that you are running for. re-election in a state that voted for. Trump, the only senator running for.

re-election in a state that Donald Trump. won. Among the constituents who you've. spoken to on the campaign trail, is that. is that uh understanding of what he's. doing breaking through to those voters? >> It's absolutely breaking through and. what they see is that my opponent, Congressman Mike Collins, who first of. all is a notorious bigot, who is only a. congressman because his daddy was a. congressman, is such a MAGA loyalist. that he will put Donald Trump's. interests and Donald Trump's wishes. above the interests of the state of. Georgia. This is Mike Collins who voted.

with Donald Trump against releasing the. Epstein files, who voted with Donald. Trump to double health insurance. premiums for more than a million. Georgians, who voted for Donald Trump's. tariffs, who voted for Donald Trump's. war. Over and over and over again, Mike. Collins puts Trump ahead of Georgia. But. remember, this is the most competitive. battleground state in the country.
