BREAKING UPDATE as NEW Republican ABANDONS Blanche before confirmation

We've got some breaking news out of the. US Senate. Susan Collins says she'll. vote against confirming Todd Blanch to. be attorney general. She released a. statement saying, quote, "While I. believe Mr. Blanch is a capable lawyer, the Department of Justice has become. increasingly political. Mr. Blanch has. taken several actions that have further. eroded the department's independence, and that is the basis for my vote to. oppose his confirmation." Now, sure, all. very serious sounding, except here's the. thing about this vote that Collins is. banking on you not noticing. It doesn't. matter. Todd Blanch is getting confirmed.

regardless of what Susan Collins does. today because John Cornin and Tom Tillis. already flipped their votes to yes over. the weekend, which means the votes are. already there without Collins. So, let's. just call this exactly what it is. It is. a senator facing a brutal re-election. campaign in her own state that is. trending increasingly bluer, casting a. vote that cost her absolutely nothing. because the outcome was already locked. in before she opened her mouth. She gets. to go back to Maine and tell her voters, "I stood up to Trump and his attorney.

general pick." And then Trump gets his. attorney general pick anyway, confirmed. on schedule with the exact same powers, exact same mandate, exact same. settlement agreement fully intact behind. him. It is the purest, most distilled. form of consequence-free performance art. that you could possibly conjure up. And. Susan Collins has built an entire 25-y. year career out of this exact move. Vote. no on hegth. he gets confirmed anyway. Vote no on Blanch. He gets confirmed. anyway. And cash in the headlines every.

single time as though it means anything. Because remember what actual leverage. looks like. Remember John Cornin and Tom. Tillis who for but a brief shining. weekend actually used the power they had. as sitting senators to block Todd. Blanch's confirmation outright because. they cosplayed as being serious about. the DOJ killing the anti-weaponization. slush fund. And of course, John Cornin. and Tom Tillis immediately reneged. proving themselves abject cowards and. coming out and saying this.

Does that concern you as someone. who's tried to fight against getting. this anti-weaponization fund in place? Well, there's nothing we could do to to. uh to reign in the president when he. said he likes the fund and he wishes. still exists, but the fact of the matter. it's dead and uh that's all we could do. under these circumstances. that. Even that fleeting bit of. community theater level performance was. too much for Susan Collins because. Collins has DNE to vote no only after. the outcome was already decided. Which. means she gets to look independent while. changing literally nothing about what. actually happens. That's not standing up. to Trump. That is waiting until standing. up to Trump costs nothing and then. striking a pose for the cameras. And. this is really the whole story of the. Republican party right now. It's not. that they lack the power to reign Trump.

in. And I've said this before and I'll. keep saying it. They are the only ones. with the constitutional power to. actually reign Trump in. It's that they. have perfected a shell game where a. handful of them get to play principal. dissenter on votes that do not matter so. that the party as a whole can then claim. that it has internal disagreement. They. have checks. They have independent. thinkers and judicious bonafides while. never once actually stopping anything. that Trump wants. Cornin folds the. second Blanch throws him a fig leaf. Collins votes no on a foregone.

conclusion. Tillis, who isn't even. running for reelection and therefore has. zero political risk either way, falls in. line right alongside both of them. Every. single one of these people gets to walk. away with a talking point. And Trump. gets to walk away with exactly what he. wanted the entire time. his guy. confirmed sitting at top the Justice. Department settlement agreement. untouched so that he can create brand. new slush funds that he can wheel at. will. So no, I'm not going to sit here. and applaud Susan Collins for this vote.

A no vote that changes nothing isn't. courage. It is the illusion of courage. manufactured specifically for a campaign. mailer. Real accountability would have. looked like Susan Collins picking up the. phone to Mowski, to Cornin, to Tillis. and saying, "Let's actually hold the. line together while we still have the. leverage to extract something real." But. instead, she waited until the outcome. was decided because Cornin and Tillis. both folded and then cast a vote that's. going to get her a nice little quote in. the Banger Daily News and absolutely.

nothing else. Performance art. Because. here's what should actually worry you. If this is what passes for Republican. independence in 2026, a vote with zero. stakes, zero risk, zero impact, then. then you have your answer as to why. Donald Trump keeps getting away with. everything he does. It's not that these. people can't stop him. It's that they. have figured out exactly how to look. like they're trying to stop him right up. until the moment that it would actually. cost them something. And Susan Collins. just gave us the cleanest example of. that conj job that we've seen all year.

If concern is what. you're looking for, you will not find. someone better than Susan Collins. If. pretending to be an independent voice. but doing nothing to meaningfully move. the needle is what you're looking for, Susan Collins should get your vote. But. if you want actual change, if you want. someone who doesn't engage in cheap. performance art, if you want somebody.
