BREAKING: BOMBSHELL update ROCKS 2026 election

Some major news here. The Virginia. Supreme Court has struck down the new. maps passed in the recent referendum. The ruling was essentially handed down. based on a technicality. To amend the. state constitution of Virginia, the. amendment has to occur in the year where. there are also House of Delegate. elections, which take place on. odd-numbered years. So, this midterm. election doesn't apply. They can try. again for the 2028 election, but the map. will not be used in 2026. Now, here's. the frustrating part. We have watched as. Republican states operate by one set of. rules, while the Democratic states.

operate by another. For example, Florida. redrew its egregiously partisan. gerrymandered map, which was just signed. into law by Ron DeSantis, despite an. express prohibition against partisan. gerrymandering in the state's. constitution. And frankly, there is not. a single person alive who thinks that. Florida Supreme Court will uphold that. law. Not one. In Louisiana, lawmakers. just canceled an ongoing election, where. 42,000 votes had already been cast, so. they could redraw their maps and. eliminate a district with black.

representation to dilute black voters'. voices. In Tennessee, both Nashville and. Memphis have been completely. disenfranchised with a map that was. redrawn overnight. But in blue states, a. liberal state Supreme Court will see a. referendum take place where the entire. state actually votes for new maps, not. just an edict imposed by fiat, but voted. on, and still some technicality will. prevent it from going into effect. The. tragic irony here is that the left, in. their eternal desperation to practice.

good government, will good government. themselves into obscurity. And look, it. would be one thing if these. technicalities applied evenly, but they. don't. It's just a fact of life in the. United States that the rules apply for. liberals, but not conservatives. Texas, Florida, North Carolina, Missouri, Ohio, Tennessee, Alabama, Louisiana, and soon. South Carolina will all draw their maps. on the eve of the election, and no one. will stop them. Meanwhile, California. succeeded by the skin of its teeth after. millions came out to vote and passed the. referendum by a two-thirds margin. And.

when Virginia voters did the same, even. that wasn't enough. No one will bat an eye when Florida. Supreme Court ignores its own. constitution, but an I not being dotted, a T not being crossed in blue Virginia. is enough to silence the voices of the 3. million Virginians who cast ballots just. a few weeks back. The double standard is not just. infuriating, it is anti-democracy, antithetical to democracy. This is not. what a healthy or even functioning. democracy looks like. I'm going to read.

Quote, "How have Republicans managed to. skew democracy so much? Because they. pursue power over principle, whereas too. many Democrats pursue fairness and good. government. Republicans controlled the. drawing of 191 of the districts in 2024. compared to only 75 controlled by. Democrats. The rest of the house. districts were drawn by commissions, courts, or divided state governments. In. the Democratic strongholds of California.

and New York, there are independent. redistricting commissions. In Texas and. Florida, there is no such thing. In. Republican-controlled districts, there. is little legal recourse to correct the. maps. In their largely conservative. courts, the judges often refrain from. interfering with map schemes, unlike the. mostly liberal courts reviewing maps in. Democratic districts.". Now, I wrote that book expressly because. I realized that this issue was creating. a massive asymmetry between the two. parties. One party wields power. recklessly and aggressively. The other. party shies away from it. But at a. moment where democracy itself is.

endangered, that kind of disparity is. literally going to relegate Democrats. into obscurity forever. Now, Gavin Newsom, who has credibility. in this space, being the only blue state. governor to now successfully usher. through a redrawn map tweeted, "No vote. in Tennessee plus one GOP, no vote in. Florida plus four GOP, no vote in. Missouri plus one GOP, no vote in North.

Carolina plus two GOP, no vote in Texas. plus five GOP. Virginia's voter approved. maps thrown out, MAGA has rigged the. system." And frankly, he's right. The. system is rigged. Democrats already. contend with an anti-democratic bias in. the Senate, already contend with an. anti-democratic bias in the Electoral. College, and now contend with an. anti-democratic bias in the House. So, with all of that said, here's what needs. to happen. Democrats in New York, New Jersey, Washington, Oregon, Illinois, Colorado,

Maryland, and any other state where we. have majorities need to step up and. immediately look to redraw their maps. If not for 2026, then 100% for 2028. There is no excuse for waiting. I don't. want to hear about practicing good. government. You know what's not good. government? Letting our democracy slide. into autocracy because you were too. focused on being star pupils who follow. the letter of the law to a T while the. other side takes a machine gun. to the Constitution. If you want. democracy to continue, that means.

fighting fire with fire. At this point, there is no excuse not to take as. aggressive action as possible. I. interviewed governors from across the. country this cycle, Wes Moore, Kathy. Hochul, Jared Polis, Mikey Sherrill. With the exception of Jared Polis in. Colorado, they all said the right. things. But now it's time to move. Now. it is time to act. It's not good enough. to get caught trying. We need to succeed. because this is existential. The window to save this democracy is. closing, but it's not closed yet. But it. requires a spine from the people in.

positions of power. It requires a recognition that there is. no room for failure. Again, trying is not enough. You have to. win. And frankly, if our elected officials. don't have the stomach, they need to. step aside because this moment calls for. a spine that is a hell of a lot stiffer. than what Democrats have been willing or. able to show in the past. Again, when I. interviewed Jared Polis in Colorado, we. spent 80% of the interview battling back. and forth about redrawing maps. He's. term-limited, so the next governor of. Colorado needs to be able to recognize. the urgency of this moment and not dance.

around this issue as if it's optional. It's not optional. No longer optional to. take steps to protect our democracy as. Republicans are seeking to entrench. permanent majorities across the country. All of which is a point that Marc Elias. makes here. >> Given the fact that, you know, they have. a fully bought-in 6-3 conservative court. that is going to be an instrument that. Republicans use in order to push all of. these map redraws through in Louisiana, in Alabama, in Tennessee, in South. Carolina. What is What is your plan more.

broadly? Like I I I want to take a. 30,000-ft view here because, obviously, you're going to litigate in these in. these cases. We just saw the NAACP uh. file a lawsuit in in Tennessee where um. Republicans immediately redrew their. maps to to draw out the only black. opportunity district in that state. Um. so, there's going to be these lawsuits, and you and I will discuss, you know, the the ins and outs of all these. lawsuits. But from a 30,000-ft view, recognizing that you've got a Republican. Party for whom voter suppression is.

their North Star. You have um you have a. Supreme Court now that is willing to. ignore its own precedent, make up their. own, you know, um. their own theory of the case, you know, even if it's out of whole cloth. What is. the long-term plan to uh restore a sense. of fairness and actually fight back. here? >> Yeah, so I think it's three things. The first, like you said, we cannot give. up on the courts. We have to keep. litigating. We We have to make our own. luck, understanding that when it things. get to the Supreme Court, you know, it's.

going to be a lot harder. The good news. is very few cases actually go to the. Supreme Court, and so there's a lot of. good that can be done in state courts. and in lower trial lower federal courts. The second thing is, Brian, is we need. to speak out. It's part of the reason. why you had the foresight, you know, how. many years ago to to to approach me and. say let's do a series together. And you. know, this I think we've done an. enormous good. I think that the two of. us have educated, you know, millions and. tens of millions of people about what is. happening in court. Both the good and. the bad, you know, we don't pull.

punches. We we tell it like it is. And I. think that the more people are informed, the more people who watch this series. and subscribe to this channel, the more. people who subscribe to Moussey Docket, the more attention and awareness there. is of these things and that is critical. Like public awareness is a critical. component to this. And then the final. thing, and this is why I mentioned your. book, is we will gain power again. Like. regardless of whatever the courts do, whatever Donald Trump is up to, like at. at some point Democrats will regain.

power. And let's hope that they retake. both houses in in 2026 and then they. have a trifecta in 2028. And the. question to me is not. what do we do to complain and feel bad. for ourselves in the meantime, but when. we take power, do we have a plan? And. more importantly, are we thinking boldly. enough? And that is where I think your. book is an essential piece of this. conversation. Because I suspect when we.

get there, as much as everyone thinks right now the. debate is going to be between the. centrist parts of the Democratic Party. or the progressive parts of the. Democratic Party or this issue or that. issue, I think the fundamental tension. is going to be what it was during the. Biden administration. Let's just be. honest. Like I was not the White House's. cup of tea on a lot of things. And the. reason was because they did a commission. on Supreme Court reform and came to the. conclusion no reform was necessary. They. looked at the need for, you know, voting.

rights litigation and thought that fewer. cases should be filed. And so I'm not. blaming any of them as people. I'm just. saying I think that the reason why I. keep talking about your book and why I. think this series is so important is. because that is going to be the fight. when Democrats retake powers. Are we. going to be imaginative enough? Are we. going to be committed enough to do new. things? Or are we going to be like, "Okay, how do we restore, you know, what. the Department of Justice was?" And, you.

know, everyone salutes the Supreme. Court. You know, the way it was, you know, when Joe Biden. was in office. >> So, now is the time to fight back. Again, we don't have the luxury of. waiting any longer. This is not politics. as usual, and we need Democrats in. office who don't pretend it is.
