BREAKING: BOMBSHELL announcement on Todd Blanche's confirmation vote

Some major breaking news here ahead of. Todd Blanchet's scheduled confirmation. hearing. According to the Senate. Judiciary Committee, tomorrow's hearing. for Blanchet to become permanent. Attorney General has now been postponed. And let's be clear, this was absolutely. predictable. Take a listen to what John. Cornyn had to say today here. >> We expected some written uh proposals to. modify the release. uh that was signed in the tax dispute. with uh President Trump and his uh. and his organization. Um it's clear.

President Trump was uh wronged. Uh. obviously the guy who leaked the. information uh is now in prison for. violating the law. But the scope of the. release. is really the the problem. And as you. saw heard during the the during the. hearing, I asked him, for example, said, "Is this intended to release people who. are not parties um to this lawsuit?" He. said, "No.". I said, "Well, the audit protection of. uh future about future audits, is this.

intended to apply to anyone other than. the parties to the lawsuit?" And "Is it. retroactive?" He said, "Yes. It's not. designed to provide prospective immunity. from tax audits." And then third, I. said, um "Is this intended to uh. to uh. to to apply to anyone other than the. defendants in the lawsuit, which are the. IRS and the Treasury? And. and not other federal agencies." And he.

said, "Yes.". To me, it's pretty simple. They could. state that in a modified release form, and um. that would be responsive to my request. But for some reason, I don't know. whether it's the staff of the DOJ or who. it is, but they simply uh they know what. they need to do, but they simply refuse. to do it. >> So, are you a no are you a no tomorrow. if this comes to a vote? >> Well, Senator Grassley tells me that uh. we need to know by 4:00 this afternoon.

whether the markup is still on. So, we. still got a little time and hopefully. they now recognize the seriousness of. this and will be be responsive. >> stands as it is now? If it stands as it. is now? If it stands as it is now, right. now, would you vote now? >> Well, I'm not prepared to vote yes. Let me Let. me put it that way. >> So, we learned today a statement from. DOJ. They said that they had sent you. this proposal. It was. >> It was not It was not responsive. >> And And what What do you mean by that?

It's not responsive. >> I mean it did not cover the audit issue. or the scope of the relief issue. And um. that's what I mean. >> What Why do you think they're not. getting the message from you? >> Maybe they think they can roll me. >> Can Can they roll you? >> No. >> At this moment right now with about an. hour and a half until 4:00 p.m., you're. currently a no. >> Um I think Senator Grassley's telling me. that uh we got to know by 5:00 whether. the. >> 5:00 or 4:00? >> 5:00 or 4:00? 4:00.

>> So, now we've got John Cornyn who is. signaling that he won't vote for Todd. Blanche until he gets written formal. confirmation that Trump's $1.8 billion. anti-weaponization fund, which is what. Trump settled for to resolve his lawsuit. against his own IRS over leaked tax. records, is truly dead. That fund would. have compensated people, including. critically Trump, his family, and his. businesses who claim they were unfairly. targeted by federal tax enforcement. So, because Cornyn clearly didn't get that. assurance, that written confirmation,

we're now in a situation where the. confirmation hearing isn't moving. forward. And by the way, it wasn't just. John Cornyn who is signaling distaste. for Todd Blanche. >> Sir, you've been incredibly clear with. what you would like Todd Blanche to do. What do you think you've been. >> I don't know. I I've I've been using. English. >> And you've been incredibly clear for. days now. What do you think the hold up. is here? >> Beats Beats me. So, they better get real, and there's not. much time left. >> So, we've got Tom Tillis as well. And. then Bill Cassidy said this, quote, I. have to make sure that he is the. Attorney General who used to be the. president's personal attorney, not the. personal attorney who is also the. Attorney General. I'm concerned about. the lawfare going after people. Cassidy. Hutchinson, for example, a grand jury, I'm told, is being impaneled going after.

her. Why? Tell me that again. Why? The. fact that that's happening has great. concern and should concern all. Americans, because where does it stop? Now, notably, these are three. Republicans who have already been. excommunicated from the party by Trump. for not being sufficiently loyal, because courage is only possible on the. right starting from the moment that. Trump is no longer there to protect you. Like, America used to have soldiers. storming the beaches of Normandy. Now, we have elected officials who managed to. speak out about the President of the. United States paying himself from the US.

Treasury, but only after it's clear that. they can't keep their jobs. I mean, wow, talk about bravery. Now, with that said, Cornyn, to his. credit, has been consistent on this. issue. Here he is during Todd Blanche's. confirmation hearing talking about the. anti-weaponization fund. >> But, let's talk a little bit about the. set about the settlement agreement and. the release. Um, first of all, I believe you have. said that the weaponization fund is a. moot issue. Is that your position? >> It Yes, it is a moot issue, meaning.

there is no weaponization fund. The. weaponization fund is dead. It's not. moving forward. >> Well, I would refer you to the uh. settlement agreement. Do you happen to. have a copy of that in front of you? >> I I do not. >> Okay, well, you probably know what's. what's in it. >> I'm familiar with it, yes. >> I'm sure you are. On page four, this. settlement agreement can be modified may. be modified only upon the written. agreement of the parties. Has there been. a written agreement of the parties to. modify the settlement fund?

>> No, the settlement fund is just not. moving forward. There's no There's no. modification. It's just It never. started. No money went from the Treasury. to any other account. There's no. commissioners. It's not moving forward. >> Well, the so the settlement agreement. remains as it was originally, um but. you're I hear what you're saying. Um. is it in Is the settlement agreement. enforceable as a contract by the. parties? >> Well, yes, it's an enforceable document. So, I suppose if if President Trump's.

counsel sought to enforce it, um. they potentially could. Um. >> Including including the weaponization. fund? >> Well, they could try to enforce the. the contract. They can't force the. Department of Justice to move forward. with the weaponization fund. They could. potentially say that I suppose that we. breached by not moving forward. Um they. haven't done that, and I'm I'm I'm not. aware that they're planning on doing. that. >> So, basically, Todd Blanche is offering. up verbal assurance that the. weaponization fund won't continue, but. refuses to offer up any written.

confirmation, because with written. confirmation, then it would be binding. And they can't possibly have that, because as we all know, the moment Todd. Blanche gets confirmed, Trump will again. seek the resurrection of that fund. And. Todd Blanche not only won't stop him, he'll help him, as he did with the. literal creation of this fund. I mean, honestly, who's going to take Trump's. word for it when this is what Trump has. to say on the matter? >> Mr. President, just to clarify on what. you said. Excuse me, Mr. President, just. to clarify on what you were asked. earlier, is the $1.8 billion DOJ fund.

dead, or is it on hold? >> It's. uh I'd have to ask the lawyers. I don't. know. I know one thing, the. weaponization Are you talking about the. weaponization fund? >> Yeah, what's your decision? >> The weaponization fund, uh as far as I'm concerned, was a. beautiful thing. It was something I was. I I didn't make it, but I was I heard. that. I thought that was the greatest. thing because people like you have. abused our people so badly. The fake. news like CNN, like the New York Times, and like others. have abused our people. Wait a minute.

Be quiet. >> But sure, we should trust that that guy. totally definitely isn't going to. resurrect the anti-weaponization fund. the second Todd Blanche is confirmed. Got it. Now importantly, if Cornyn votes. no, then Todd Blanche's nomination won't. be able to advance out of the Senate. Judiciary Committee, so it's effectively. dead at that point barring some extreme. action by John Thune, which is why this. whole thing was postponed until there's. some resolution. As for Trump, he. offered no response on the merits. because of course he wouldn't. He.

literally wants the weaponization fund. to continue, so he's not going to oppose. that. But instead he opined on how. Cornyn's opposition clearly was. personal. >> Would you advise the Justice Department. to listen to the concerns of John Cornyn. and make it clear in writing that this. weaponization fund is dead once and for. all? >> I think that that's an issue between. right now the White House and Senators. Cornyn and Tillis, but yeah, I would. encourage them to sit down, which I. think they are, and trying to come to a. resolution there so that the the markup.

can continue tomorrow and we can get. Todd Blanche ready for the floor. >> Now as for Trump's response to all of. this, he didn't say anything about the. merits because of course he didn't. He. literally wants the weaponization fund, so he's not going to oppose that. But. instead he did opine on how John. Cornyn's opposition was personal. >> On Todd Blanche, Senator John Cornyn of. Texas has been hesitant to back the. confirmation. Seems to be some sort of. deal that he's worked out. What is your. reaction to his hesitancy? >> Well, all I can say is Todd Blanche is. outstanding.

And I thought he's I thought it was. pretty routine because he's so good. He's he just wouldn't find a better. person. So, I don't know. Maybe John Cornyn's. upset with me because I didn't endorse. him. I don't know what it is, but. I haven't heard that there's a problem. I heard he's going through quite nicely. >> To which Cornyn replied saying this. >> In this case, he's not representing the. president. >> But when the president says that you're. doing this as a political effect that uh. what do you say? >> That's a convenient excuse and happens. to be untrue. >> So, look. It's obviously a problem that.

Todd Blanche won't commit to ending this. slush fund, but the fact that it was. created in the first place is absolutely. disqualifying enough onto itself. That. Todd Blanche, Trump's personal criminal. defense attorney, has decided that our. taxpayer dollars are there to serve as a. blank check, a slush fund, to pay out. insurrectionists and cop beaters is all. the reason in the world that he should. never be anywhere near the levers of. power. That he felt this was somehow. appropriate in the first place is all. the reason any US senator who's even.

pretending to act in good faith should. never empower this crook with an ounce. of validation.
