BIG ANNOUNCEMENT from Brian Tyler Cohen

I have a little bit of a different. episode here. I've been waiting for. today for a year because it's the. official release day for my new book, The Day After. Now, I want to ask you to. support my work, but I also don't take. that request for granted, so I think I. owe you an explanation as to why. Now, I'm fortunate enough that I've had the. opportunity to get the ear of a lot of. elected officials on the left. I know. that most people don't have that luxury, so I wanted to use it to the best of my. ability. And I think we have a problem. on the left having watched Republicans. tear down all of our institutions, being. the party that props those institutions.

up reflexively, which means that we are. the de facto defenders of process, and. norms, and traditions. And it's made it. damn near impossible to actually wield. power. Now, Trump doesn't have that. problem. Trump doesn't even acknowledge. their existence, but there is a lesson. in there because that's shown us that. our institutions are not sacrosanct. He. barrels through them to get what he. wants. The law, the Constitution, the. courts, other branches of government be. damned. But, he does it.

for self-enrichment. He does it to build. vanity projects. He does it to. consolidate power for himself. I argue that Democrats can and must. learn from the GOP's refusal to abide by. norms and institutions, but to do it for. virtuous reasons. To deliver healthcare. for all Americans. To expand voting. rights. To combat climate change. To. expand the Supreme Court. To deliver a. just economy. Raise the living wage, and. so much more. I think it is essential to have this. debate now so that when we get into.

power, and I believe we will get into. power, that we don't waste that precious. time talking about wielding power, but. rather simply doing it. With so much. disillusionment in politics on the right. and the left, if we don't take advantage. of whatever opportunities come our way, we risk losing an entire generation of. Americans forever. And it is in that. vacuum of trust and faith in government. where autocracy thrives. That's what. Trump relies on. The moment that we're living through. right now, today, is a testament to why.

we have to do everything in our power to. prevent that from happening. Now, this book, The Day After, is a. blueprint for how Democrats must govern. in the future. It doesn't seek to. entrench the status quo, but rather. usher in a new kind of government that. actually works for Americans. A. government that doesn't allow the. smallest obstacles to stand in its way. A government that isn't in place to. defend its own institutions, but rather. one that focuses on outcomes for its. people. Now, because I've had the opportunity to. speak to so many elected officials on. the left and feature them on my channels.

and interviews that you all get to see, I think I'm uniquely positioned to be. able to make that argument and have it. stick. But, for it to stick means. getting this message into the zeitgeist. and making a splash. So, that's where. I'm going to appeal to you. If you agree. with this message and the movement that.
