News Tonight with David Muir. Good evening, it is great to have you with us here on a. very busy Wednesday night. We begin tonight with the breaking news, a horrific and. deadly train collision in Spain.
At least 68 people killed, hundreds injured, and we are. told tonight that Americans are among the victims. Authorities say a high-speed train going at least 120 miles. per hour slammed into another train, nearly 100. miles south of Madrid. Cars sent off the tracks, some tumbling down an embankment. Rescuers racing to the scene, survivors crawling. out from the twisted metal. ABC's Marcus Moore leading us off from the. scene in Spain tonight. Tonight the devastating and horrific scene, just moments.
after two high-speed passenger trains collided in. Spain, killing at least 68 people on board. Crumpled train cars on their sides, shredded, some tumbling. down a rocky embankment. Americans are among the victims in the violent crash about. two hours south of Madrid. The passengers seen climbing from the twisted wreckage. Chaos inside the train cars. The metal and debris visible outside the windows. Survivors describing the sudden moment of impact. "We were having breakfast," this man says, "and when the.
trains crashed, we were all thrown into the air.". First responders rushing to treat the injured. Some victims lying in the grass. Others airlifted from the remote crash scene to hospitals. in neighboring cities. This is as close as they'll let us get to the scene. You can see it in the distance there, that massive debris. field, and they've been using cranes to lift large pieces of. the wreckage as searchers look for possible victims trapped. inside. Authorities say all trains. had been ordered to stop on this section of track due to a. computer malfunction around 8.30 this morning.
But minutes later, officials say a command center told one. train to start running again without any speed restrictions. That train, traveling more than 120 miles per hour, slamming. into the back of a second train that was still. stopped on those tracks. The transport minister saying it was inexplicable why a train. was told to start moving again. Officials say some 500 people were on board the trains at. the time of the collision. Everything started falling apart. Bang, we fell down. In a split of seconds, it was very, it happened very quick.
This is the second deadly crash along the same. tracks in less than a year. In January, two trains collided head on, leaving. more than 40 people dead. And tonight, fiery protests erupting in. Madrid. Demonstrators clashing with police, demanding government accountability after. today's deadly crash. And David, an active scene here as crews continue. working to clear the debris. And there are major Further questions about what. went wrong here, investigators looking at why that one train. was told to start moving again when all other.
traffic had been stopped. Marcus Moore and our team live from Spain tonight, Marcus. We appreciate it. Back here in the U.S. tonight, the breaking news involving. the midterm elections, now less than a week away. President Trump tonight on his third trip to. the normally red Ohio. And tonight, the explosive headline here involving. another close race, the Alaska Senate race. Allegations Democrats intentionally tried to. confuse voters with two Dan Sullivans on the. ballot. Here's Mary Bruce tonight. With Election Day less than a week off, tonight, President.
Trump heading to Ohio, his third campaign visit to this crucial. red state battleground. But heading out, the president's attention focused on an. explosive story rocking another. There's a lot of people who are going to be in the polls. And I think that's a good thing. They didn't do it, and they did do it, and they got caught. The Alaska Senate race pits Republican Senator Dan Sullivan. against former Congresswoman Mary Peltola, a Democrat. But there is another Dan Sullivan on the ballot, Daniel.
J. Sullivan, a retired teacher. Tonight, The New York Times reports this second Dan. Sullivan was recruited by Peltola's campaign. in an effort to confuse voters. The Democratic operatives scoured Alaska searching. for a candidate with the same name as the. Republican senator. And they found one. Peltola has sidestepped questions about. whether her campaign engaged in dirty tricks. What is your response to the GOP and those accusations? You know, there's always political theater and.
shenanigans that are, it seems like, are. And, of course, there's a lot of people who are going. on every election cycle. Her campaign now says it has no involvement with. either Sullivan campaign. Tonight, Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski blunt, quote, recruiting candidates to manipulate. the field and influence voting outcomes is simply wrong, adding Alaskans deserve the honest truth from. Mary and her campaign. Legal experts tell us that recruiting spoiler candidates is. not in itself illegal, but the Justice Department has.
already filed suit to block certification. of Alaska's election results, if Senator. Sullivan loses. Here in Ohio, Republicans are the ones facing blowback from. a scathing campaign ad in the race for governor. Republican Vivek Ramaswamy enlisting the estranged. mother of his Democratic opponent Amy Acton, who hasn't seen her daughter in nearly 50 years. ACTIN, Mother of Actin's Stepdaughter, "If you think. she'll make your life better, you're fooling yourself.". Actin was removed from her mother's custody. at 12 years old, after her stepfather was.
charged with raping her. Republicans now worry the ad could hurt other. Ohio candidates, like Senator John Husted, who's fending off a challenge from former Democratic. Senator Sherrod Brown. Husted is a former college football player and. the president has drawn attention by praising. his body over and over again at campaign rallies. across the country. But while he's speaking, you know, ladies and. gentlemen, thank you. My name is John Husted and I'm examining his body. And I said, his ass was like a big piece of muscle.
His feet were massive. His hands, his fingers look like sausages. My hands aren't bad, but his fingers look like sausages. But Ohio voters may need more convincing, especially given the rising cost of living. Here in Chillicothe, I spoke with Paul Harris, who lost his job when the local paper mill closed. and is discouraged about where the country is heading. It was, like you said, an American dream. You could do whatever you want, you know?
You just gotta go work for it. And nobody gonna give it to you. What do you think about that American dream now? It's dying. And David, this is a red state. President Trump won here in Ohio three times, but the races here are now tight. And 1.2 million Ohio voters have already cast their ballot, a big jump from the last midterm elections. Yeah, the extraordinary numbers in early voting. across this country. Mary Bruce, live in Ohio tonight. Mary, thanks. Tonight here, the chilling surveillance video. showing an alleged attempted kidnapping, to women in a parking garage, the suspect grabbing one of.
them, carrying her to his truck, as she tries to fight him. off. Trevor Ault on the images from Hawaii tonight. Tonight, this chilling video obtained. by KITV shows an alleged attempted kidnapping in broad. daylight. A man creeping up behind two women walking into. a parking garage in Honolulu, Hawaii. One of the women who didn't want to be identified, describing how quickly it all happened. All of a sudden, we felt somebody really close evil. And we both kind of turned and his face was filled with anger.
That man starts chasing the 24-year-old woman. She runs out of the garage, but he picks her up. and she tries to wriggle free. She was fighting with all her might. She kept saying to him, you don't want. to do this. She was trying to give him a conscience. I'm screaming help, help as loud as I can. Police say the suspect tried to get the victim to his car as. neighbors yelled to let her go.
There was terror. She's off the ground and. flailing and screaming. We just started screaming at him to drop her, put. her down, get out of here. The attacker then dropping the woman in the street. before police say he fled in his vehicle. And David, a few hours after that incident, police took a. 23-year-old man into custody. We have now learned he's just been charged. with kidnapping, David. All right, Trevor Ault reporting on this story. And Trevor, stay with us here because there's. another kidnapping case breaking tonight. I know there's news coming in on a 10-year-old Oregon girl taken.
from her home, and authorities revealing just moments ago that. she's been found alive and OK. That's right, David. And this is an extremely frightening story. Police have said 10-year-old Violet Hay was kidnapped. from her apartment overnight. They say a man broke into the apartment, violently assaulted. her 12-year-old sister, and then took off with Violet. When we've just learned from authorities moments ago, Violet, the 10-year-old, has been found safe at a home in Oregon City, and they say SWAT teams have taken that suspect into custody, All right, Trevor Ault, reporting on. both stories tonight.

Tonight the record-setting tides battering America's shores. on both sides of the country. Yeah, this looks bad. King Tide slamming South Florida again today. Chris Nelson shot this video as he rode his bike through. the heart of Fort Lauderdale.
Yesterday was worse. In places like Fort Lauderdale and Miami Beach, Tuesday's king. tides were the highest ever recorded, an unprecedented. amount of saltwater engulfing homes and businesses. Never seen the king tide come over the seawall. And in the West, days of extreme tidal flooding there. are taking a major toll. I'm standing in what would be lanes of traffic on the Pacific. Coast Highway, the PCH, one of the most well-known roads in. California, covered in ocean water, pouring onto the street. for a third day in a row.
Crews here are trying to pump out the water. that's also pouring into nearby neighborhoods. Not far from here, we found Mark Deakins and his family bailing. water out of their garage with buckets. Tonight, authorities raising the bounty for the capture.
of escaped killer Jacob Morley from twenty five hundred. to fifteen thousand dollars. The search widening as Tennessee officials urge. surrounding states to be on the lookout for the. dangerous fugitive. The convicted killer has been on the run since eleven. thirty Sunday night when Tennessee prison officials. say he breached the perimeter fence and left the complex. ...and the victims' longtime friend warning anyone who.
might be helping the killer. I think for sure he will kill again. And I honestly think it could end up being somebody that. thinks they're helping him. And David, the victims' loved ones are not only. concerned about what Morley might do next in desperation,
they're also wondering how a convicted murderer. slipped away from prison guards in the first place. All right, Faith Abubey. Thanks, Faith. Overseas tonight, the election cliffhanger in. Israel at this hour involving Benjamin Netanyahu's future. Let's get right to Matt Rivers in Jerusalem. Matt. David, there is political. deadlock here in Israel tonight. No clear winner will emerge from this election with 90 percent. of the vote already counted.
