Hurricane Hunters in the air forced to turn back. And here in the U.S. tonight, the emergency in Florida, entire communities underwater. Another storm bringing nearly 20 inches of rain,

homes and roads destroyed. The wall of an apartment building collapsing. Ginger Z is tracking it all. Also tonight here, the dramatic video, the high-speed motorcycle chase playing out on live TV, the suspect heading speeds, more than 150 miles per hour, appearing to pull out a gun mid-chase. We begin tonight with this monster category 5 hurricane. with winds up to 175 miles per hour, now just. hours from slamming into the island of Jamaica.

Hurricane Melissa, potentially catastrophic storm, could be the strongest to hit in the island's. history. Look at these satellite images tonight showing the. hurricane massive in size. Its powerful eye perfectly formed there, slow moving. It could bring 40 inches of rain. The storm's outer bands are already making. an impact on Jamaica, wind gusts picking up rough. surfs slamming the shore, but nothing like what they're about. to see. Jamaica's airports now closed. Taurus, who did not leave in time, will be forced. to ride out the storm.

Hurricane Hunter is trying to fly into the. eye of the hurricane. Noises, the turbulence inside was so strong, one of the. flights had to turn back. Tonight we have the newest models here, Melissa's. track after it hits Jamaica. And we have learned at this hour the U.S. Navy now evacuating 1,000 not essential personnel, from Guantanamo Bay, ABC's Icajacci, leading us off from Kingston, Jamaica tonight. Tonight, families in Jamaica are bracing for what could. be the strongest storm on record to hit. the island nation.

Hurricane Melissa, now a category five storm, wins 175 miles an hour, lightening, flashing in the eye over the warm waters of the Caribbean. Whoo! The Caribbean feels like. bathwater right now, which is giving Hurricane. Melissa so much more strength, producing up to 13 feet of. storm surge in some parts. Melissa showing inside the eye wall. One of the flights into the storm had to turn back. after hitting severe turbulence. Melissa has already killed at least six people. across the Caribbean. Also causing destruction in Haiti. and the Dominican Republic, were officials saying nearly 4,000. people are displaced. And the U.S. Navy evacuating 1,000 non-essential. personnel, family members, and pets out of Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Back in Jamaica with airport shutdown, Donnelly. she'll be safe in her hotel, but taking no chances. I have my bag, I did secure my passport, you. know, in a ziplock bag. Just in case I have to dash. And Barbara Carter says locals are taking this. massive storm very seriously. She's someone sick coming. So we have to ensure that we protect life. And while we will be able to build back homes, we will not. be able to get back lives. David, in just a matter of hours, the eye of Melissa will. be coming ashore to the southern.

the entire island. The National Hurricane Center. says it's strong winds have the potential for. total structural failure and it will be even worse and higher. elevations. Hey, David, those hurricane force winds are only 30 miles. outside, but when this makes landfall tomorrow morning on. the west side of Jamaica, 30 miles goes far and then the. tropical storm force winds go in the center. But I think it's up to this point.

That's when Almost 200 miles. from the center. It looks like a buzz saw it's moving northwest. It'll turn north tonight and eventually. northeast before making landfall tomorrow morning. We stopped at 9 a.m. Then it will jet a little faster to the. northeast into Cuba. Still as a major hurricane and eventually as a cat to over the. central Bahamas. That's for Wednesday, afternoon, but. behind it will leave 15 to 30 inches. widespread landslides are likely really. concerned about the amount of water. here, even in Cuba, well and why it doesn't. hit the United States, we still have that fence,
