going down in Miami right into Biscayne Bay. But we are going to begin. tonight with the historic midterm election Democrats. taking control of the House and the Senate tonight. President Trump now Now reacting to the stark. message sent by voters, many in normally deep red states. that voted for President Trump by double digits, now sending Democrats to the Senate. The president first bringing. reporters today to the site of the White House ballroom, talking about his project before addressing the election. Tonight with Vice President J.D. 24 hours after American. voters sent a roaring message handing Congress. to Democrats in a stunning rebuke of President Trump. I think we just made some history. The president today calling. reporters to the site of his new White House ballroom. It'll be the most magnificent when you see what we're doing. between the marbles and the.
Describing his construction. plans for 25 minutes before signing the last beam. And finally, addressing the election results. But for months, Trump had been urging voters. to pretend he was on the ballot. At the polls, his record front and center. 79 percent of voters say. inflation caused them moderate or severe hardship. And 63 percent blamed Trump's policies for the higher prices, gas and diesel spiking since the president attacked Iran.
Today, Vice President J.D. Vance. posting, "The reason we lost is the war. Any honest conversation. about where we go from here must start there.". Trump insists the war was worth it. On Capitol Hill, Democrats picking up at least. 29 House seats, a number likely to rise. It wasn't simply a blue wave, it was an American tsunami. In Texas, horns sounding celebration.
in the streets of Austin. James Tallarico, the state's first Democratic. senator in nearly 40 years. We united Texans from all backgrounds. and beliefs onto one team. to take on this broken, corrupt political system. Tallarico then in a remarkable moment, surrounded by supporters as he celebrated at Whataburger. [Applause]. ...and Jose Salvador Alcala, who will become the state's. first Latina governor. "I never set out to be a politician. I am a mom. I am a mom who loves her children, who believes in their teachers, and who believes in Texas public schools.".
I am a mom. I am a mom who loves her children, who believes in their teachers, and who believes in Texas public schools. In Georgia, too, Keisha Lance Bottoms will become. the first black woman governor in American history.
Also in Georgia, a resounding re-election for. Democratic Senator John Ossoff. The American people have rebuked the depravity, corruption and incompetence. of the failed lame duck President Donald J. Trump. In South Carolina, Dr. Annie Andrews defeating. Senator Darlene Graham, Trump's hand-picked And now, here's a look at the candidates.
Nobody in Washington recruited me to run. Nobody handed me a seat in the United States Senate. (CHEERING AND APPLAUSE). And nobody wrote me a script. I owe no one in Washington anything. I owe South Carolina everything. (CHEERING AND APPLAUSE). In the Midwest, voters sending the nation's.
first Muslim senator to Washington. "My name is Abdulrahman Mohamed Sayed. And I am so proud and honored to stand here. as your senator-elect from the great state. And in ruby red Kansas, which hasn't elected a Democratic senator.
in nearly 100 years, voters picking Adam Hamilton, pastor of the nation's largest Methodist church, who spoke with David just moments after his victory. Senator-elect Hamilton, it's David Muir in New York. Thanks for joining us. And how does that sound to you? Oh, my gosh. Good. Thank you, David. Did you think that's a great sound? And you know what? It's very exciting here in Kansas. Now it's a reality for you in deep red Kansas, the first Democrat. to be sent to the Senate in almost a hundred years.
What was it? First of all, obviously cost of living. was a huge thing for farmers, the tariffs, the war health insurance, one in 60, one in 50 people. in Kansas taken off of health insurance last year and a half. But there were two other things. One was Kansans want Democrats. and Republicans to work together to solve problems. And that's not been happening. We're better together. And Kansas believe that. And the other thing I'll tell you is just human decency. And David, the big question here tonight, what comes next now. that Democrats have swept the House and won the Senate? President Trump here today, standing in his new ballroom,
said he's willing to work with Democrats, quote, unless they want. to be destructive, adding, I have the power of the veto. All right, Mary Bruce, who is right here at election headquarters into the wee hours. of the morning back at her post there at the White House. Mary, thank you. And believe it or not, tonight, this isn't over yet. We have the Senate races in Mississippi and Alaska. Still too close to call at this hour. In fact, in Mississippi, moments ago, less than 70 votes. between the two candidates. Now, a new batch of votes just counted. The Democrat pulling ahead by more than 1,000 votes.
So let's get right to Rachel Scott. I'm not even sure Rachel has slept yet. Still at the big board tonight, but show us. Mississippi, the Senate race, this is very close. And we have these new numbers that are just coming in. Just moments ago we got this new. batch of votes showing that the Democrats, Scott Colomb. growing his lead here from 70 votes to over 1,000. over the incumbent Republican Senator Hyde Smith. Right now 96% of the vote in so far. We know that state officials. were still waiting to count thousands of mail-in ballots.
So it still could be a couple of days. before we get the final results in this race. I want to take you over to Alaska, another very tight race. that we are following here. 74% of the vote in right now. It is the Democrat, Mary Peltola, that has a slight. edge over the Republican incumbent Senator Dan Sullivan. You may remember that other Dan Sullivan. that was in the race. He did not make the top three. If none of these candidates. get 50% of the vote, this now moves into a second. round because Alaska uses rank choice voting. This could take a few more weeks.
before we know who exactly won this race, David. All right, a few more weeks. You'll be on it, Rachel. You were great last night. I appreciate >> Thank you for joining us. We appreciate this again tonight. In fact, the election also having an effect on the economy. The stock market reacting to the election results tonight. The Dow soaring more than 1500 points today. Gas Buddy reporting tonight. that the average price of gas could fall.
below $4 a gallon here in the U.S. in the next week. We'll be tracking it.
