Strong winds, hail, and the possibility of tornadoes. Heavy. rain in Illinois this afternoon made. driving there treacherous. Overnight, that system brought fierce thunderstorms. to parts of Oklahoma and Texas and in.

the Carolinas. Firefighters are hoping. the rain will help them gain ground on. several wildfires that have been burning. there. All of this is heading to the. northeast. WABC meteorologist Danny. Beckram leads us off. Hi Danny, time. this out for us. Lindsay, a dangerous. line of severe thunderstorms with. watches posted right now from Texas up. through Michigan for both severe. thunderstorms and tornadoes. Let's get. right to the radar. You can see the. powerful storms racing east on the. northern tier. Treacherous snow and ice. knocking out power to over 200,000.

customers in the Great Lakes. But it's. the damaging wind, the large hail and. strong tornadoes in the southern section. of the system bringing the big concern. after sunset tonight for cities like. Shreveport, Memphis, and Louisville. Widespread wind gusts to 70 miles per. hour look likely, which can produce. significant damage and lead to power. outages. And this threat continues. Monday for the eastern seabboard with a. severe risk for New Orleans to upstate. New York. But the greatest tornado. threat is in the southeast and. mid-Atlantic. This also means a soaking. rainfall for the I95 corridor moving. into Monday night. Lindsay, such a wide.

swath being impacted there, Danny. Thank. you. That system is already leaving. quite a mark. In Wisconsin, residents. woke up to a coating of about a quarter. inch of ice. The winintry conditions. making travel treacherous. Further. south, that tornado threat is ramping up. at this hour. ABC's Victor Aendo is in. Tennessee for. us. Tonight, millions of families from. Texas to Michigan on alert, anxiously. watching the skies as a dangerous. cross-country storm system moves east.

Outside of Champagne, Illinois, a nasty. band of thunderstorms packing really. severe winds. Winds from 70 to now over. 80 miles hour. Overnight, the system bringing a first. round of thunderstorms to the. Heartland, unleashing destructive hail. on parts of Texas and Oklahoma, shattering this car window southwest of. Fort Worth and outside Oklahoma City. That's going to take a a direct hit in. the Mustang with tennis ball size hail.

And in the Carolinas, where multiple. wildfires have burned more than 33. square miles south of Asheville in. recent days, possible relief in. sight. The system expected to bring a. much needed soaking. rain. This as rain from a separate. system already swamping parts of. Louisiana. West of Lafayette. Drivers. navigating submerged streets. Up to 10. inches of rain falling.

there. Lindsay, here in Nashville, we. are bracing for a long night ahead. What. makes this system so dangerous? The. worst of the weather is striking. overnight. So, officials urging everyone. to keep their phones charged and to make. sure they have a way to receive any. alerts. Lindsay, word to the wise. Victor, thank you. President Trump is. now floating the idea of running for a. third term in some of his strongest. comments yet. The president reportedly. told Meet the Press anchor Kristen. Welker that he wasn't joking when asked. about the possibility and he said that.

there were ways around the. constitutional term limits on the. presidency. President Trump is also. threatening tariffs on Russia over. Vladimir Putin's recent comments about. President Zalinski. Here's ABC's senior. political correspondent Rachel Scott. Tonight, President Trump reportedly says. he's considering ways to serve a third. term, a move that would require. breaching the two-term limit outlined in. the Constitution. The president telling. NBC's Kristen Welker, quote, "There are. methods which you could do it." When. asked to clarify, saying, "I'm not.

joking." Later adding, "It's far too. early to think about it, but the. president and his allies have been. floating the idea for months. I've. raised a lot of money for the next race. that I assume I can't use for myself, but I'm not 100% sure. because I don't know. I think I'm not. allowed to run again. I'm not sure. Am I. allowed to run again? Amending the. Constitution for Trump to run a third. term would be extremely difficult. First. requiring twothirds approval by Congress. and then ratification by 38 states. With.

the president now just days away from. imposing tariffs on foreign cars and. auto parts, Trump now threatening even. more on Russian oil. The president. delivering his harshest criticism yet of. Russian President Vladimir Putin, saying. he's quote very angry with him for. attacking the credibility of Ukrainian. leader Vladimir Zalinski. Putin on. Friday claiming Zalinsky lacks the. legitimacy to sign a peace deal. Trump. himself has criticized the Ukrainian. president, falsely calling him a. dictator. He refuses to have elections,

is low in the real Ukrainian polls. I. mean, how can you be high with the every. city is being demolished? But now Trump. is changing his tune. The president. reportedly saying, "If a peace deal. isn't made, and if I think it was. Russia's fault, I'm going to put. secondary sanctions on Russia." It comes. as the White House presses forward with. plans for steep new tariffs set to kick. in next Thursday, including 25% tariffs. on all cars and auto parts made outside. the United States. Mr. President, should. Americans buy cars now if they want to.

avoid higher prices? No, I don't think. so. I think you're going to have a. country that's going to boom. Some. economists warn American businesses will. pay those tariffs and then raise prices. for consumers. By one estimate, the. price of a new car should shoot up more. than $6,000 by next year. It's the. economic consensus that actually in fact. car prices will go up. It's just very. hard to find things that are solely. produced in the United States and even. those car makers that are most insulated. from tariffs do get some kind of parts.

from abroad or steel that is going to. increase the cost of that vehicle. The. president reportedly saying, "I couldn't. care less if foreign automakers raise. prices. I hope they raise their prices. because if they do, people are going to. buy Americanmade cars. And the president says those tariffs. will be permanent. Meanwhile, Lindsay, the president's senior adviser, Elon. Musk, is here in Wisconsin where there. is a battle over a single seat on the. state supreme court. This could have big. implications for abortion rights,

Overseas now, foreign aid and rescue teams are. arriving in Myanmar. the epicenter of. the massive earthquake that hit. Southeast Asia on Friday. A Chinese. rescue team pulled three people still. alive from a collapsed building in the. city of Mandalay. More than a million. people there are sleeping in the streets. amid strong aftershocks. ABC's Brick. Lennet reports from Bangkok tonight.

It's a race against the clock tonight. Rescuers desperately digging through. rubble for any signs of survivors after. that massive 7.7 magnitude earthquake. rattled Southeast Asia. Powerful scenes. Sunday as cheers erupt moments after. rescuers pull a woman buried alive from. the debris. Scenes like this across. Myanmar. People using their hands, jackhammers, and shovels. Anything to. free those trapped. Rescuers here. working to free this person trapped for.

nearly 40 hours. More than 1,600 people. have been killed. That's according to. the Hunter there. These before and after. images showing the widespread. destruction in the war torn country. New. video tonight shared on Chinese state. media showing nurses shielding newborn. babies the moment the earthquake struck. And here in Bangkok, video capturing. this apartment bridge breaking apart. from the force nearby. This skyscraper. falling to the ground. There's a high of activity here at the. site with a number of rescue teams going.

in continuing to grow. But as the. critical window to find survivors out of. the rubble narrows, family members are. growing more frustrated. with this man telling me the operation. was too slow in the beginning. And early. this morning, 7.1 and 6.1 magnitude. quakes striking near the Polynesian. country Tonga, prompting a tsunami. warning. Residents there urged to move. to higher ground. That tsunami warning. later. lifted. Lindsay, the UN says the.

military hunter in Myanmar's continuing. to bomb parts of the country and. aftershocks there are also complicating. relief efforts. China and India are. among the countries delivering aid in. Myanmar. We know that US teams are here. in Thailand, but still no word on when. American assistants will arrive in. Myanmar. Lindsay, in the meantime, all. hands on deck there globally. Staying overseas tonight, Israel. says it has submitted a counter proposal. for a ceasefire that could lead to the. return of five living hostages, including one American, as the situation.

Horrifying video capturing the moment.

the plane slammed into a suburban home. and burst into flames. Authorities say. one person was inside but able to escape. to safety. Remarkably, no one on the. ground was injured. The Federal Aviation. Administration says the small six. passenger Sakata TBM took off from De. Moine for Minneapolis before it went. down in Brooklyn Park, just 7 miles. short of the airport. The aircraft will. be uh taken to a secure location where a. more detailed examination will be.

conducted. Lindsay, the FAA and the NTSB are. investigating and looking into what. possible causes could have caused that. crash, including the weather, the. pilot's experience, or the maintenance. of that aircraft. Lindsay Melissa, thank. you. Next tonight, a bus driver is in. police custody after two men were shot. to death on a bus in Miami. Shots. erupted overnight on board a commuter. bus just outside a shopping center. Cristian Cordderero has more on what led. to this deadly encounter.

Tonight, two people are dead and another. in custody after authorities say an. argument aboard a Miami Dade transit bus. escalated into a deadly shooting. 183. North. Avenue. Now the driver is calling 911. It happened around 3:00 a.m. near a. shopping plaza in Miami Gardens. Police. say the bus driver pulled a gun during a. confrontation with passengers. We know. that the transit bus driver uh fired his. weapons and um in results of that, two. victims were transported to Aventura.

Hospital. The victims, both men, later. died at the hospital. It's unclear if. the bus was moving during the incident. or how many passengers were aboard when. it happened. Officials now working to. determine the circumstances leading up. to the shooting and whether the two. victims were armed themselves as they. consider what charges, if any, the. driver could face. Lindsay, it's unclear. if Miami Dade bus drivers are allowed to. carry firearms, but union leaders site. violence as a top concern among bus.

United Airlines says it's aware of. reports that while landing on Saturday, one of its jets collided with a kite. Air traffic control audio indicates this. happened over Virginia Park where flying. kites is prohibited. Flight 654 from. Houston did ultimately land safely.
