We begin tonight with the. breaking news, a showdown brewing on.

Capitol Hill between President Trump and. some Senate Republicans. Last night, it. was Democrats and some Republicans in. the House voting to rebuke President. Trump on the war in Iran. Tonight, it's. some Republicans in the Senate on. another matter now. The president set to. nominate Todd Blanche, his former. personal attorney, as the next attorney. general. Top Senate Republicans tonight. predicting a tough confirmation battle. for Blanche after the plan to use 1.8. billion dollars in taxpayer money for. President Trump's fund to pay his. allies, including those who attacked the.

Capitol on January 6th. Many Republicans. arguing the plan to use 1.8 billion in. taxpayer money to pay those rioters is a. terrible move. ABC's Mary Bruce leading. us off from the White House tonight. >> Tonight, as President Trump prepares to. nominate his former personal lawyer, Todd Blanche, as the nation's next. attorney general, top Republicans. predicting a tough confirmation battle. Blanche currently serves as acting. attorney general. >> That we are going to make him permanent. attorney general. >> His loyalty to Trump front and center.

>> Obviously, I'm honored and humbled that. the president indicated he's going to. nominate me today. >> But that loyalty could become a. liability. >> Do you think I'll have a hard time. getting confirmed? >> Um hard to say. >> Blanche is an architect of the idea to. use taxpayer money for President Trump's. fund to pay his allies, including those. who stormed the Capitol on January 6th. Democrats outraged many Republicans, too. Earlier this week, Blanche pulling. the plug. >> We are not moving forward with the fund,

period. >> But Trump still defending it. >> So, I love it. I think it's so important. >> Today, Senate Democrats and some. Republicans pushing legislation to make. sure the fund never happens. Republican. Senator Tom Tillis says January 6th will. be at the forefront of Blanche's. confirmation hearing. >> The key for Todd or anybody going. through Judiciary Committee has been. pretty tight on uh January the 6th. They. better not have said for 1 minute that. the people that.

that beat up police officers, like these. right down here, were righteous people. >> It comes amid news the Pentagon has. hired a January 6th rioter to serve in a. sensitive counterterrorism job. Elias. Irizarry, seen here climbing through a. broken window at the Capitol, and here. sitting in a conference room with a pole. across his lap. He pleaded guilty to. various offenses and was later pardoned. by President Trump. >> David, in addition to facing tough. questions about January 6th, Todd. Blanche will also have to answer for the.

Justice Department's handling of the. Epstein files. Former Attorney General. Pam Bondi on the hill last week told. lawmakers that Blanche was the one in. charge of the process and the entire. release of the Epstein files. Also just in tonight, a new. report on just how close a United flight. filled with passengers came to disaster. coming in for landing at Newark Airport. Tonight, that new report revealing that. passenger jet came within 15 ft of the.

busy New Jersey Turnpike. The pilot had. been given three different runways to. land on in high winds. And tonight here. in a separate aviation case, dramatic. new video tonight showing another. passenger jet, this one headed to Los. Angeles, the front nose gear collapsing. just before passengers were to board. Multiple injuries, and here's Rhiannon. Ally. >> Tonight, new details on this stunning. moment and just how close a packed. passenger plane came to disaster on. their final approach at Newark Airport. last month. A new report tonight finding.

that United Airlines flight with more. than 230 people on board was flying. dangerously low, just 15 ft above one of. the busiest highways in the country when. it slammed into a light pole. That pole crashing into a delivery. truck, injuring the driver. Investigators today say the pilots. navigated three rapid runway changes as. they descended in strong winds, eventually told to land at Newark's. shortest runway. The first officer. warning the captain the airspeed was.

slow, later saying, "You were still slow. and a little low." The captain saying he. heard a thump shortly before touchdown. Passengers deplaning normally, but that. plane suffering substantial damage, a. gash in the side of the fuselage. >> Holy. >> The NTSB is going to want to go back and. say, "What is it about this approach to. this runway? How can we take out the. possibility of error that almost led to. tragedy in this case?". >> Also tonight, dramatic new video posted. on social media showing the front. landing gear of a Lufthansa jet.

collapsing while parked at a gate in. Frankfurt, Germany, just moments before. passengers were set to board the flight. to Los Angeles. The nose of the plane. crashing down. The airline saying 13. crew members and ground staff were on. board at the time, several taken to the. hospital with minor injuries. David, the planes involved in both. incidents have been taken out of service. as authorities investigate. David. >> Rhiannon Ally tonight, Rhiannon, thank. you. Now to the case making national. headlines tonight, the emotionally. charged murder trial in Texas. A. 19-year-old high school track star now.

accused of fatally stabbing a. 17-year-old from a rival team during a. track meet. The case now sharply. dividing the community. And here's. Morgan Norwood. >> Tonight, day one in a trial that has. deeply divided a Dallas suburb and made. national headlines. Carmelo Anthony, now. 19, charged with first-degree murder in. the stabbing death of 17-year-old fellow. athlete Austin Metcalfe after a. confrontation at a track meet last year. >> Can you be in route to the stabbing at. Kincaid Stadium press box? It's going to.

be a student athlete. >> Prosecutors called it a sneak surprise. attack, showing the jury grainy. surveillance of the bleachers where it. all happened that rainy morning after. Anthony sat under a tent belonging to. Metcalfe's team. Austin's twin brother. Hunter was there. >> He started getting aggressive and. talking reckless. And my brother stepped in and said, "You. need to move." He's like, "Make me. move.". >> And prosecutors say when Metcalfe tried. moving Anthony, he pulled out a knife. Metcalfe's last words, "I've been. stabbed" before he died in his brother's.

arms. But Anthony's defense arguing he. acted in self-defense, reacting in a. split second of fear, chaos. Saying. after he defended himself with a knife, he ran. He didn't stab again. He dropped. the knife. The case fueling debate and. racial tension. Metcalfe's father has. insisted it's not about race. Both. families have faced threats. >> To the family who experienced the loss, my heart truly. goes out to you. We believe in the legal. process and that is where the truth will.

come out. >> Tonight, one civil rights organization. voicing outrage that there are no black. jurors deciding Anthony's fate. >> And David, Carmelo Anthony was 17 at the. time. Police officers then. responding but then finding themselves. scrambling for cover. Here's our chief.

investigative correspondent, Aaron. Katersky. >> Tonight, at least one suspect is dead. after an overnight shootout with police. turned a neighborhood in Columbia, South. Carolina into a war zone. >> That is not Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, anywhere. This is the summit. in Richland County, a highly populated. community. >> Today, Richland County Sheriff Leon. Scott playing multiple body camera. videos for reporters. >> You heard how many times we were shot.

at. >> Around 12:17 this morning, authorities. say the officers responded to reports of. shots fired at a house, finding several. vehicles and a home riddled with. bullets, but no victims. Less than 2. hours later, at 1:51 a.m., another. report of shots fired at another home in. the same neighborhood. Three officers. respond and a canine. You can see the muzzle flashes as. officers scramble for cover. >> Our three officers did return fire at. some point, but not compared to what. they were being subjected to.

>> An 18-year-old believed to be one of the. shooters was found dead at the scene. David, there's. >> a person of interest detained tonight. There may be up to 10 shooters from this. wild scene. David. Erica Turcios, Erica, thank you. Tonight, the search. intensifying for that missing American. wife in the Bahamas. Her husband says. she fell overboard and was swept away. As you'll recall, Coast Guard divers. though are back in the water. And. tonight, does newly recovered GPS data. contradict some of what the husband told. authorities? American Lynette Hooker intensifying in. the Bahamas. The Coast Guard using a. canine to find clues in the. 55-year-old's disappearance. Divers also. deploying underwater drones to focus on. areas not previously searched in the 2. months since Lynette vanished during a. sailing trip with her husband Brian. >> Divers from the Coast Guard are in the. water right now. You can see their. orange boat there behind us. This is. where Brian and Lynette Hooker had their. sailboat, the Soulmate, anchored. >> US officials tell ABC News investigators.

were led to these new areas after GPS. data from Brian Hooker's electronic. devices seem to contradict his account. of the night he says his wife went. overboard. Sources say this dinghy that. Brian says Linette fell from, a key. piece of evidence, is now in the custody. of the Coast Guard. Linette's daughter. welcoming the renewed effort to locate. her mother. >> She's still not found and she has to be. somewhere. So, all the help that we. could get um is greatly appreciated. >> Brian Hooker said he tried to rescue his. wife of 25 years before returning to.

shore to alert authorities. >> I will always think there was something. I could have done differently. >> And David, investigators will do a full. digital forensic analysis of any. electronics on the Hooker sailboat, which was seized by the Coast Guard and. is now in Florida. Tonight, sources now telling ABC News. that President Trump's former national. security advisor and one of his harshest. critics, John Bolton, has now agreed to. plead guilty to mishandling of. classified information. Trump's retribution campaign and tonight. sources tell ABC News Trump's former. national security advisor, John Bolton, is planning to plead guilty to. mishandling classified information. >> I'm not a fan of John Bolton. I thought. he was a sleazebag, actually. >> Bolton was indicted on 18 counts in. October of 2025, accused of sharing. classified information with members of. his family in the course of writing a. book. His home raided by the FBI.

Tonight sources tell us Bolton will. plead guilty to one count of illegal. retention of national security. information and will acknowledge he. stored sensitive information in his. personal diaries. He's agreed to pay a. fine of $2.25 million. and could face up to 5 years in prison. Bolton has been an unsparing critic of. the president. >> I don't think he's fit for office. >> President Trump himself was charged with. mishandling classified information when. he left office. That case later. dismissed. Investigation into Bolton.

began during the Biden administration. The case against him was brought by. career DOJ prosecutors, not newly. appointed allies of the president. Bolton is expected to enter his guilty. plea on June 26th. If he had been. convicted and on all 18 counts, he could. have faced decades in prison. The. front that will bring the relief over. the weekend is in the northern plains. It's the third night in a row of severe. weather. Severe storms till 1:00 a.m.

from Rapid City, South Dakota to Eastern. Montana. The flooding is the main threat. in Kansas to Iowa. We had a tornado in. Kansas earlier. The severe threat goes. to Omaha, Des Moines and the upper. Midwest on Friday. Saturday, it's the. Great Lakes and a couple of those storms. could reach the Northeast by Saturday. night. I was actually there when he. arrived in the medevac helicopter. [music]. to the combat support hospital. It was. gruesome. It was gruesome. >> [music]. >> and and yet during the day he was. smiling. I mean, he was saying, uh, you. know, man, my mom's going to kill me. She didn't know I was in danger.

>> Oh, my mom's going to kick my ass. >> Your mom's going to kick your ass. He continued [music]. on in the Army, believe it or not, and. not out there patrolling the streets of. Baghdad, but he served. He continued to. serve. And [music]. when he got out, he started something. called Warrior 360, which helped [music]. veterans get money immediately. He walks. on prosthetics now. He's married. He's. He is the happiest guy [music] you will. ever meet. >> Martha's new book comes just as she's. honored with an Emmy for lifetime.
