Those winds gusting up to 50 mph in some. areas. White out conditions hitting. Buffalo, New York. Near zero visibility. Up to 4 feet of snow possible by the end. of the week. Drivers facing dangerous. road conditions. Snow plows struggling. to keep up. Strong winds toppling this. canopy at a gas station outside. Cleveland. Ginger Z standing by with a. forecast for New Year's Eve. But ABC's. Faith Abubet leads us off again tonight. >> Tonight, after pummeling the Midwest. with howling winds and feet of snow,

blizzard conditions now paralyzing. upstate and western New York. In. Buffalo, watch as the waves thrash the. shoreline and roadway. The water. transforming into a lake effect. blizzard. WKBW Buffalo reporter Michael Schwarz. braving the dangerous conditions in. Hamburg. >> You could see those waves that are. coming up here on the shores of Lake. Erie in Hamburg. And that BMW has been. here since 700 a.m. >> Hours later, the BMW and tuned in ice.

Police say it was reported stolen. In. Syracuse, snow bands blowing off Lake. Ontario brought traffic to a standstill. this morning. Power lines whipping. around Rochester. Crews in Elba, New. York, cleaning up down trees. And in Lacawana, doorbell camera. catching the moment Diane Miller opened. the door at her daughter's house and the. wind took her. >> Are you okay? >> I think God took care of me because at. my age, my bones break very easily.

>> New York's governor expanding that state. of emergency to include the entire. state. Outside Cleveland, this gas. station canopy knocked over. In the. west, families north of Los Angeles and. Wrightwood cleaning muck out of their. homes. A new storm set to move in, promising to dump more rain that they. don't need. And with the lake effect. snow warnings are still in effect. Some. areas could get up to 4 feet by Friday. Whit. >> Faith, thanks. Let's get right to ABC's.

chief meteorologist Ginger Z. And. Ginger, the dangerous winds and snow. threatening again tonight. >> Yes, Wit. Syracuse, New York had 19.3 in. of snow today. That's not just a daily. record, but the most snow they've had in. one day in nearly 34 years. And there's. more where that came from. Those winter. storm warnings and lake effect snow. warnings are up. We still have a few of. these wind advisories for Boston till. 1:00 a.m. for example. Then let's see. how it kind of tracks through. There's. another little system that's going to. then have lake enhancement on New Year's.

Eve the evening as everybody's headed to. their destinations from Chicago along 80. over to Cleveland. You might have some. problems. 90 certainly Buffalo to Eerie. You'll want to watch that the next. couple days because we're going to end. up with the Tug Hill Plateau additional. two plus feet. And a quick look at the. New Year's Eve forecast. 32 for the temp. as that ball drops in New York City. A. few flurries and on the West Coast, a. big pattern change with the rains coming. back. move on now to the escalating tensions. between the US and Venezuela and new. reports tonight that a CIA drone strike. was behind an attack on a port facility. inside Venezuela. President Trump. sharing few details about the operation, but it comes as the US military carried. out another deadly strike on an alleged. drug boat in the Eastern Pacific. Here's. ABC's senior White House correspondent. Selena Wei. Tonight, a dramatic. escalation in the US pressure campaign. against Venezuela involving the. country's top spy agency. The CIA.

reportedly carrying out a drone strike. on a dock allegedly used by the gang. Tren deagua to transport drugs overseas. According to the New York Times in CNN, they reported no one was on the dock or. killed during the attack last week. Overnight, the president sharing new. details about the operation. There was a. major explosion in the dock area where. they load the boats up with drugs. They. load the boats up with drugs. So, we hit. all the boats and now we hit the area.

It's a implementation area. That's where. they implement and that is no longer. around. >> In fact, President Trump himself first. revealed the strike, the first known US. operation inside Venezuela in a radio. interview last week. Well, they have a. big plant or a big facility where they. send the, you know, where the ships come. from. Uh, two nights ago, we knocked. that out. So, we we hit them very hard. >> Tonight, the CIA declining to comment on. the attack.

>> The whole idea of using the CIA here. means that the president doesn't have to. go up to Capitol Hill and ask for the. use of military force. This as US. operations against Venezuela enter a new. phase. The US has launched at least 30. strikes against alleged drug boats in. the Caribbean and Pacific Ocean. Overnight, the military sharing this. video of a missile strike on one of. those boats in the Eastern Pacific, killing two, bringing the death toll to. 107 people. The US has yet to provide. any evidence to prove those killed were.

smuggling drugs or posed an imminent. threat to the United States. Selena Wang joining us now from West. Palm Beach where President Trump is. spending the holidays. And Selena, there's also news tonight on. negotiations for a potential peace plan. in Ukraine. That's right, Whit. And President. Zilinski was just here at Mara Lago. meeting with President Trump and he's. telling reporters tonight that he's. discussing the possibility of American. troops on the ground in Ukraine. alongside forces from other countries as.

New England Patriot star Stefan Diggs, now facing charges of strangulation and. assault. He's accused of attacking his. personal chef over a payment dispute. His attorney denying the allegations.

And tonight, how the Patriots are. responding as the team gears up for the. playoffs. Here's ABC's Andrew Dimber. Tonight, New England Patriots wide. receiver Stefon Diggs facing multiple. criminal charges stemming from an. alleged incident at his home earlier. this month. According to the police. report, a woman who said she was working. as a private chef at Diggs' Denim, Massachusetts home, claims he entered. her unlocked bedroom December 2nd after. they had been having an ongoing text. exchange over money owed to her. She. says he subsequently smacked her across.

the face and then tried to choke her and. allegedly threw her onto the bed and. said something to the effect of thought. so before walking out of the room. Authorities now pursuing felony. strangulation or suffocation and. misdemeanor assault and battery charges. against Diggs after police say the. victim changed her mind and wanted to go. ahead with filing criminal charges. In a. statement, Diggs's attorney says in. part, "He categorically denies these. allegations because they did not occur, and he looks forward to establishing the. truth in a court of law." The four-time.

Pro Bowler recently had a baby boy with. rap star Cardi B. Meanwhile, the. Patriots saying in part, "We support. Stefan and they will cooperate fully. with the appropriate authorities and the. NFL.". With the arraignment in this case is. scheduled for January 23rd, but with the. Patriots headed to the playoffs and the. severity of these allegations, the big. question now is will Diggs, the team's. leading wide receiver, be allowed to. play. nationwide. Health officials estimating. about 7 and a half million cases. 29. states now reporting either very high or. high levels of flu activity. New York. State reporting cases in record numbers, many linked to a new variant. And. tonight, what that means for the current. flu vaccine. Here's ABC's Rianna Alli. Tonight, a sharp rise in flu cases. raising alarm among medical experts. In. just one week, according to CDC data, flu related illnesses jumping more than.

60% from 4.6 million to 7.5 million. Hospitalizations also spiking more than. 60% from 49,000 to 81,000 and more than. 1,200 deaths have been reported. 29. states now reporting very high or high. rates of illness including New York. which just reported its most ever cases. in a week. Some schools closing early. for the holiday break due to widespread. illness. and we had about an hour uh. where the phone was just ringing off the.

wall and. parents calling kids in sick. >> CDC data showing last year's child flu. deaths reached their highest level since. the 2009 swine flu pandemic. Experts say. vaccination rates among kids down 10%. compared to before the pandemic are. partially to blame. The concern is the. amount of patients presenting that can. put strain on the hospital system, limit. resources, and treating the. complications can become even more. difficult. >> The CDC says the bulk of cases are. linked to a new variant called subclaid.

K, which has mutations that appear to. have resulted in a mismatch with this. year's flu vaccine. Doctors say getting. the vaccine will still reduce the risk. of severe illness. with the CDC's data. is released on a delay. That means these. latest figures are from the week before. Kennedy, has died after losing her. battle to a rare form of leukemia. the. 35-year-old environmental journalist,

wife and mother, revealing her diagnosis. last month in The New Yorker, writing, "For my whole life, I have tried to be. good, to be a good student and a good. sister and a good daughter, and to. protect my mother and never make her. upset or angry. Now, I have added a new. tragedy to her life, to our family's. life, and there's nothing I can do to. stop it. It's yet another heartbreak for. her family and especially for her mother. who has endured a lifetime of loss. Caroline's father, President John F.

Kennedy, assassinated when Caroline was. just 5 years old. 5 years later, her. uncle Robert F. Kennedy assassinated. too. And then Caroline's younger brother. JFK Jr. along with his wife Caroline Bet. Kennedy killed in 1999 when the small. plane JFK Jr. was piloting crashed in. foggy weather off Martha's Vineyard. Well, with the JFK Library Foundation. issuing a statement tonight saying, "Our. beautiful Tatiana passed away this. morning. She will always be in our. hearts." In addition to her mother and.
