We begin tonight here with the murders of actor. and filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, Michelle. Tonight for the first time, their son, Nick Reiner in. court facing first degree murder charges in the. stabbing deaths of his parents. The judge keeping him out of sight of the. cameras. Nick Reiner behind a partition wearing.

shackles and what's called a suicide prevention smock. What he said in that courtroom. Also tonight here, new surveillance video. emerging showing Nick Reiner at a convenience store. hours after the murders and then the video showing. his arrest near USC moments later, Nick Reiner. with his hands in the air tonight. Authorities have revealed Robin. Michelle Reiner were found stabbed to death in their. bedroom tonight. The scene in court with Nick Reiner. as tributes continue to pour in for his parents, among them, Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan. Remembering the Reiner's abc's Trevor.

Ault leading us off again tonight from Los Angeles. Tonight, Rob Reiner's son, Nick, making his first. appearance in court charged with his parents murders. Shielded from the camera by this partition, Reiner. was shackled, wearing a suicide prevention smock. He sat quietly, only speaking briefly, the judge. asking him to confirm he wanted more time. before entering a plea.

His arraignment is now pushed back to January. Outside the courthouse, his defense attorney, Alan. Jackson, urged the public not to rush to judgment. There are very, very complex and serious issues that. are associated with this case. These need to be thoroughly but very carefully. dealt with and examined. In new video, we're seeing the moment Nick Reiner.

was taken into custody Sunday, cornered by police. cars, his hands raised in the air just moments. before his arrest. He was captured on this. surveillance footage buying a drink at a nearby convenience. store. Sources say early Sunday morning he had. checked into this hotel in Santa Monica after police believe. he killed his parents with a knife. Today the medical examiner revealing their causes. of death as multiple sharp force injuries. The LAPD says they were found in their bedroom. Law enforcement sources tell ABC News midday Sunday a.

massage therapist came by the house and called the Reiner's. daughter Romy when no one answered the door and Romy. then found her father's body. Tonight she and her brother Jake making their first statement. since the tragedy, writing "Words cannot even begin to. describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing. They weren't just our parents, they were our best friends.". When Harry met Sally star Meg Ryan, breaking her silence, saying "Thank you, Rob and Michelle, for the way you. believe in true love, in fairy tales, and in laughter.".

And a group of the couple's closest friends, including Billy. Crystal, Albert Brooks, and Larry David, recalling a line. from one of Rob's favorite films, "It's a Wonderful Life.". Each man's life touches so many other lives, and when he isn't. around, he leaves an awful hole, doesn't he? You have no idea. A new Quinnipiac poll out today shows 65% of voters rate. the state of the economy as poor or not so good, with.

50% saying Trump's policies are making things worse. Tonight, 64% of voters say the cost of living is a very. serious problem, 28% saying it's somewhat serious. And tonight, more than 20 million Americans are bracing. for their insurance premiums to skyrocket when subsidies. under the Affordable Care Act expire in just two weeks. In a remarkable turn, four moderate House. Republicans defying House Speaker Mike Johnson, joining Democrats to try and force a vote to.

extend those tax credits. To not act on the ACA enhanced premium tax credit. expiration, to me, is wrong. President Trump has promised a health care plan. for about a decade now. He said he had concepts of a plan, but he has. yet to announce one. Congressional Republicans, who can't agree on. their own solution, now under mounting pressure. Republicans want Trump to talk more about the cost of.

living and less about his White House renovations. Overnight he announced the cost of his new ballroom has. doubled from $200 million to $400 million. This evening, the showdown intensifying between. the U.S. and Venezuela. President Trump ordering that blockade of all sanctioned oil. tankers to and from Venezuela. And what The New York Times is now reporting involving. the Venezuelan Navy potentially in response. Here's Martha Radice. Tonight Venezuela bracing for a possible repeat of the dramatic.

seizure of an oil tanker just one week ago. And now a new threat from President Trump in his high. stakes showdown with Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro. Trump ordering what he calls a total and complete blockade of. all sanctioned oil tankers going into and out of Venezuela. At least 15 sanctioned tankers full of oil are. floating off Venezuela and could be targeted if. they enter international waters, experts say.

A move that would choke. Venezuela's oil exports, the lifeblood of Maduro's. regime, which President Trump is calling a foreign. terrorist organization. Late today, the president pressed if the blockade is. about regime change. "Just a blockade. Not gonna let anybody going through that. shouldn't be going through.". David, according to the New York Times, Venezuela's Navy has now been ordered to escort oil. tankers leaving its port, which could increase the. likelihood of a confrontation.

Late today, police releasing new images asking. for the public's help, identifying someone who. they say was seen in close proximity to their. person of interest. shooting. We truly believ for a few days. Uh, they information to the invest. into the manhunt. Authori this person may be found. Authorities still asking. these videos of that pers through the neighborhood, the way he moves, carries his weight and his posture. -He will be caught, and it's just a matter of time. before we catch him. -Today, investigators releasing this map. showing the streets, marked in green,

where they say the man described as 5'8". with a stocky build was seen in the hours before the shooting, adding the red lines placing him in the area. immediately after the crime. And tonight, there are mounting questions. about the seeming lack of surveillance footage. from inside that Brown University building. where the shooting took place. The university pushing back. There are cameras in this building. We have turned over all evidence that we are holding at Brown to. law enforcement and are cooperating. fully with them.

David, the university say. they have a roughly 1200 security cameras. spread out campus wide, but not every. classroom is covered. And again tonight, David authorities. hoping the public can help them identify this. person who they say was in close proximity. to the person of interest in this case. David, the public's help. key in solving this. They do need a break in this case. Matt Rivers with us. Thank you, Matt. There is a gruesome mystery unfolding outside. Boston at this hour. An MIT professor of nuclear science, a husband. and father of three, shot in his home, and now we. have learned tonight he was shot right in the entryway.

He later died at the hospital. Here's our chief investigative correspondent, Aaron Kuturski. Tonight, a chilling mystery has a quiet upscale community. near Boston on edge. Two days after the fatal shooting of esteemed. nuclear scientist and MIT professor Nuno Lallaro, law enforcement sources tell ABC News investigators. do not know the motive and have no obvious suspects. It's very scary, though. We're living in such terrible times right now. Police began a homicide investigation after Lallaro.

was found with multiple gunshot wounds Monday night in the. entryway of this three-story building in Brookline, where violent crime is rare. "Fifth Street. Reporters gunshots. Father was shot multiple times.". Neighbors said they heard the gunfire. I heard three loud bangs. I thought at first it was somebody. in our apartment kicking in the door or something. So I called the neighbors and they said no, they. thought it was gunshots. Lallaro, a husband and father of three, died at the. hospital the next morning. Overnight, dozens of mourners holding a candlelight vigil.

outside the family's home. This professor was shot, David, just days after the. tragedy at Brown University. At this point, authorities have ruled out a connection, but. they are aware the community is shaken and this professor. was a noted nuclear scientist. So they're trying to move quickly and they've. assembled a large team of investigators for the case. David? All right, Aaron Kuterski. with us here tonight. Aaron, thank you. Tonight we're tracking a cross-country storm threat. from Washington State to the Midwest and then right into the. Northeast. Damaging winds, snow and rain over the next two days.

50 mph. Next, taking aim at the Midwest, bringing rain to Chicago. and snow Thursday afternoon. "Right to Die" bill passed over the summer in New York. Governor Hochul, who is Catholic, says supporting. the bill is a difficult decision because of her faith.
