(upbeat music). - From ABC News World Headquarters in New York, this is World News Tonight with David Muir. - Good evening, we begin tonight here. with the breaking news, the US and Iran, and tonight the White House acknowledging. this is a fragile ceasefire and it's already. being tested tonight. Just hours after President Trump announced. the two week ceasefire. Iran then saying it had closed the Strait of Hormuz.

The White House had demanded Iran open the critical. passageway. Iran closing the straight blocking oil. tankers from going through as Israel unleashed a. sprawling attack on Lebanon. President Trump saying Lebanon is not included in. this ceasefire deal, calling it quote a separate. skirmish tonight. A gallon of gas in the U.S. now at $4.16 a gallon, up $1.22 since this. war began, and the Strait of Hormuz remains closed. So what next? Mary Bruce leads us off from the White House.

The White House says the "fragile ceasefire" with Iran is. holding, but tonight President Trump's key condition remains. unmet, Iran refusing to reopen traffic through the Strait. of Hormuz. Still, Vice President J.D. Vance, who is now leading negotiations, insists, quote, "Fundamentally, we're in a good spot.". No cease-fire ever goes without a little bit of choppiness. Iran says it will not reopen the strait because they say the. U.S. has gone back on what they claim was a key element of the.

truce that Israel would stop bombarding Iranian backed. Hezbollah targets in Lebanon. Today Israel unleashing a sprawling barrage of more than. 100 attacks on the Lebanese capital Beirut the most since. the war began killing at least 180 people more than 1.2. million people displaced in the conflict. Iran's foreign minister declaring the world sees. the massacres in Lebanon. The ball is in the U.S. court, and the world is watching whether it will.

act on its commitments. But Vance today saying Lebanon was never part. of the ceasefire deal. I think this comes from a legitimate misunderstanding. I think the Iranians thought that the ceasefire included. Lebanon, and it just didn't. We never made that promise. We never indicated that was going to be the case. One thing is clear. Iran still controls the strait. Before the war, ships could pass through free of charge. But President Trump now telling our John Carl. the US and Iran could work together one day.

to collect tolls, saying, we're thinking. of doing it as a joint venture. Any arrangement like that seems a long way off. And tonight, the strait remains closed. The national average price for a gallon of gas now at $4.16, up $1.22 since the war began. Economists say it could take months to fall. once the strait reopens. Today, the administration also pressed to explain. the president's plan for halting Iran's nuclear.

program and moving their more than 900 pounds of enriched. uranium out of the country. They will either give it to us, which the president has. laid out, they'll give it to us voluntarily, we'll. get it, we'll take it, we'll take it out. Or if we have to do something else ourselves, like we did in. Midnight Hammer or something like that, we reserve. that opportunity. And David, those negotiations are supposed to begin in earnest. this weekend in Pakistan, but the two sides are not on the. same page on a host of issues. And tonight, Iran says the Strait of Hormuz remains closed. And that was President Trump's top demand.

To the other news tonight, the chilling turn in court today. involving serial killer Rex Huerman, the husband and father who worked in New York City. now pleading guilty, admitting he killed eight women. and his ex-wife of 27 years and daughter watching, Rex. Huerman, leaving no doubt he is the Gilgo Beach serial killer. who terrorized neighborhoods outside New York City. Do you feel it's in your best interest to plead guilty. rather than go to trial? Yes, Your Honor. The suburban dad who worked as an architect on. Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. I'm an architectural consultant. Admitting he lived a double life, pleading. guilty to murdering eight women and burying. their bodies on Long Island, some found. dismembered and wrapped in burlap near the beach. Huerman strangled his victims, who he hired as escorts, in.

a nearly two-decade killing spree starting in 1993. This defendant walked among us, play-acting as a normal. suburban dad, when in reality, all along he was. obsessively targeting innocent women for death. Heuermann was finally tracked down and arrested in 2023. after his DNA was retrieved from pizza crust. in the trash outside his office and linked to hair samples. found on the victims. Detectives scouring Heuermann's home in a storage unit, amassing a mountain of evidence, including a chilling.

collection of news articles about the murders. and what prosecutors called his blueprint, with locations of dump sites and reminders to dispose. of tools and devices and burned gloves. Today outside court, the woman married to him. for nearly three decades. She says she never wanted to believe it was true. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families. Their loss is immeasurable. And the focus should be on them at this time and moment.

The families of victims never gave up hope the. killer would be caught. The victim's family is concerned about the safety of. I would never stop searching for justice for you. I was in the hushed courtroom today, David, as Heuermann repeatedly uttered guilty with what.

appeared to be a slight smirk on his face. The D.A. told me here a moment ago, David, he thinks Heuermann. just got tired of fighting. He's never going to leave prison, and he must. cooperate with the FBI to give investigators. a window into the mind of a monstrous serial killer. Yeah, what a horrific case that affected this. community for decades. Aaron, thank you. We turn now to the emergency unfolding this. afternoon in Philadelphia. the images still coming in tonight, a deadly parking. garage collapse and now the search for possible.

victims trapped. Here's Mola Lengy with the pictures. emergency crews tonight carefully searching for. survivors after a seven level parking garage in. downtown Philadelphia partially collapsed. It's reported to be a parking. garage under construction with workers trapped. inside what appears to be a stairwell pancaked. now reduced to a pile of debris. You can see this wall buckled on the lower. level. Andrew was in his kitchen nearby and says. his home started shaking. I was in the kitchen and we heard like an.

explosion. I thought it was a storm bomb something. We didn't know what it was. At least one person was killed and according to. our station WPVI, two people may be trapped that. garage under construction for the Children's. Hospital of Philadelphia. Officials saying the structure is compromised first. responders now launching drones until it stabilized. >> This is going to be a protracted operation. The building is a 7 story garage that is under. construction. It is compromised for the safety of my team.

>> Well David search and rescue operations have been suspended. tonight while the structure is stabilized officials are. bringing in additional crews and heavy equipment to help. remove debris. And we have now learned tonight that. police are investigating a new piece of video. Does it show an employee starting. the fire? Trevor Alt with that video tonight. Tonight, an arson investigation into this massive.

fire that destroyed a warehouse yesterday morning. outside Los Angeles. The flames seemed for miles as firefighters battled the blaze, burning through this 1.2 million square foot distribution. center for Kimberly-Clark. The roof collapsing, as officials say about 20 employees. were inside at the time. Police have now arrested 29-year-old Shamil Abdul-Karim, an employee of a third-party distributor for the company. All you had to do was pay us enough to live. And they're now investigating this video posted on a Facebook.

account that according to a co-worker appears to be. associated with the suspect. There goes your inventory. The warehouse was filled with paper products from Scott to. Kleenex to Huggies diapers and all that inventory. further fueled the fire. Every possible piece of information or anything. of evidentiary value is certainly going to. be taken into consideration for the investigation. And David, all of the warehouse employees have been safely. accounted for for a time. One of them was believed to be missing. That turned out, though, to be the suspect.

In a statement, Brian Hooker writing in part, "I am heartbroken over the recent boat accident that.

caused my beloved Lynette to fall from our small dinghy.". Her husband adding, "He made desperate attempts to reach. her and the ongoing search for her is my sole focus.". Tonight, authorities say this is the flotation. device Brian says he used to try to save his wife. Brian told police he and Lynette left Elbow Key in an. 8.5-foot dinghy on Saturday evening on their way to. their sailboat Soulmate. "This is the Soulmate, Brian and Lynette's light blue sailboat. We tracked it down. It's anchored here in Marsh Harbor.

We've called out to Brian, but it doesn't. appear he's on board.". The couple encountered bad weather, Brian said, and Lynette fell overboard with the boat key. The boat's engine shutting off. Authorities say he made it back to shore, reporting her missing around 4 AM Sunday. Lynette's daughter, Carly, calling for a. full investigation. I don't want to. Go forever, just not ever finding her again. I don't feel like I get the closure I would need. And late breaking news tonight, David.

here in the Bahamas say they have taken Lynette. Hooker's husband Brian into custody and he is now being. questioned by authorities. Police also asking anyone with any information. to come forward. David, Victor Akendo on those. breaking developments for us. Victor, thank you. There's also news tonight about the high school. shooting in Paul's Valley, Oklahoma, that's south. of Oklahoma City. According to the arrest affidavit, a former student was armed with a gun, allegedly. claiming he was inspired by the Columbine shooting. He was tackled by the principal and other staff members. as he entered the school.

The principal was shot in the leg. He is expected to recover. No students were hurt. Tonight, we're now hearing the harrowing 911 calls. after that father drowned after rescuing two of his children. in a rip current. This evening, we now hear his wife calling for help, bystanders, then trying to revive her husband. A warning, the calls are unsettling. Here's Morgan Norwood. tonight, a mother's desperate call for help. Emily Jennings screaming as her husband.

Ryan tries to save their 12 year old. son and 9 year old daughter who were. caught in a rip current off Juno Beach. Bystanders also calling 911. There's a father and a daughter and. she's caught there caught in a wave. and people are trying to try to take this first. responders finding the 46 year old father of three. unconscious, giving CPR, but it was too late. He died in the hospital, but he saved. his Children. He was a hero. He saved the kids.

It was. It was exactly who Ryan Jennings. is an amazing, amazing human being. The Jennings family from North Yarmouth, Maine were in. South Florida visiting Ryan's parents adding to the tragedy. An experienced climber and guide, Whitaker reached the summit in 1963, even though his group had run out of oxygen. He later became CEO of outdoor outfitter REI. Jim Whitaker was 97.
