News Tonight with David Muir. Good evening. We begin tonight here with that breaking news. We have learned of a deadly attack at a popular. tourist destination, the Pyramids outside. Mexico City, filled with tourists, including. Americans, crowds of people running for their. Gunfire erupting at the site of the famed Pyramids there. At least one tourist killed. Multiple injuries reported. Tourists racing down those stone steps to try to get away. Tonight, American tourists among those at the scene. describing what they witnessed.

ABC's Matt Rivers leading us off with the images coming in now. Tonight, the terrifying scene at one of the most iconic. tourist sites in the world. Graphic video being reviewed by police showing a gunman opening. fire at the historic Teotihuacan Pyramids just. outside Mexico City. The suspect holding a handgun walking behind tourists pinned. to the ground, shooting. He then scales the massive stone face of the pyramid, the crowd scrambling away, running for their lives.

down the ancient steps. "I gotta get out of there.". Some jumping off the stones. "No, he just jumped.". "He fell, he fell.". American tourist Tim Chung was visiting from Seattle. "You see people starting to scatter up there on. that platform, and then people start running down.". Officials say one person was killed, a tourist from Canada. At least six more injured, four wounded by gunfire, two injured in falls. Dramatic video showing the moment authorities opened.

Tonight, we're learning pilots on two Southwest planes were. forced to take evasive action after an air traffic controller. positioned the planes on a direct collision course. Southwest Flight 507 was preparing to land at Nashville. International Airport Saturday, just as Southwest Flight. 1152 was taking off, both planes packed with passengers.

While on approach, Flight 507 executing a precautionary. go-around because of the gusty And you can hear the controller. direct that plane to bank right. That other Southwest flight, 1152, bound for Knoxville, was. gaining altitude and now in the path of the other jet. Anti-collision alarms going off in both cockpits as. the planes were moments away from a catastrophic. midair collision.

There are multiple alarms that can go off in the cockpit. In this case, it was the most serious of those alarms telling. those pilots, "You're on a collision course. You need to move the airplane now.". The tower realizing the mistakes, telling the planes. to change their altitude. Southwest 507, on the maintain 3000. 3000, Southwest 507. Southwest 160, maintain 2000. 2000, we're already past it, Southwest 150. The pilots responding to the anti-collision alert, taking. evasive action themselves, narrowly missing each other,

with those passengers on board roughly separated by 500 feet, right on top of each other. Meanwhile, David, tonight the FAA is investigating, and this is very serious, because these planes were. incredibly close, again, only separated by roughly 500 feet. Yeah, that is really unsettling, Gio. Thank you. Tonight, the horrific new details now emerging. following a devastating shooting. A former National Guardsman accused of shooting. and killing eight children. Seven of them were his own, some family members.

The female saying there's nine subjects that live. inside the residence saying he may have shot them all. Authorities say the father died in a shootout with police. after gunning down his own family at two different homes. where he also wounded his wife and another woman. Parents who know the family say that America should focus. The father was former military in the Louisiana.

National Guard, but police are still trying to figure. He has a felony for firearms conviction from. several years ago that should have prevented this. And his family says that he was getting treated for mental. health issues at his local VA. Funeral arrangements for his children are still. being put together tonight.

We're just thinking about that whole family. Steve, thanks. Tonight, the pilot of a small plane was killed crashing into. a neighborhood near Tampa. and this evening when authorities are convinced. he did at the last minute to save lives. Here's Stephanie Ramos now. This was the moment a small plane exploded after crashing. into a Tampa neighborhood. A security camera capturing the flames erupting. in Cheryl Korth's yard. I could feel the heat and everything. The crash happened less than a minute after the CESTA took. off Sunday morning from Tampa North Aero Park around 8.35 a.m.

Oh my God! Christina Galbiati's doorbell camera caught. the plume of smoke. The pilot, I think, is a hero. He very intentionally knew he was coming in fast and within. that split second, nosedived it. That pilot, identified as 60-year-old Michael. Bailey, was killed. But no one on the ground was hurt and damage to. homes and yards was minimal. We did dodge a bullet. I don't know who the pilot was, but I think that he. knew what he was doing. My opinion is that maybe he was having engine trouble and he.

steered it so that he didn't hit our houses. And David, the neighborhood where this happened is right in. the flight path of that airport. The NTSB is investigating the crash.
