A short time ago, a critical next step. in the historic Artemis II moon mission, 24 hours after lifting off, the four astronauts on board. triggered an engine that set them on a course to the moon.

More on this in a moment. But we do begin with that breaking. news. President Trump's firing of Attorney General Pam Bondi, his second cabinet shakeup in a month. Bondi is a longtime Trump loyalist who helped defend. him in his first impeachment trial. Just yesterday, she was seen accompanying. him to the Supreme Court for arguments on ending. birthright citizenship. But the president was reported to have grown. and impatient with Bondi's lack of success in prosecuting his. enemies and her PR blunders on the Epstein case, including a combative hearing on Capitol Hill. But Pam Bondi does leave the Department of Justice more.

firmly under his control. ABC's Chief Justice Correspondent Pierre Thomas. leads us off tonight. Despite being perhaps the most loyal attorney general in recent. history, Pam Bondi is out. President Trump, the greatest president in American history. President Trump is the most transparent president. in American history. Today, President Trump posting on social media. that Bondi, whom he called a friend and an American patriot, will be transitioning to a much-needed and important.

new job in the private sector. Bondi and Trump seen as recently as yesterday. outside the Supreme Court. But sources telling ABC News Trump. Trump had been frustrated for months about Bondi's inability. to bring successful prosecutions against some of his enemies. like former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney. General Letitia James. We have to act fast. If they're not guilty, that's fine. If they are guilty or if they should be charged, they should be charged. And he was not happy with the way Bondi and DOJ handled.

the Jeffrey Epstein files, at times frustrated over repeated. questions about the case. Are you still talking about Jeffrey Epstein? This guy's been talked about for years. Are people still talking about this guy, this creep? That is unbelievable. Bondi had gone to the White House promising transparency, but handing out mostly old Epstein files, leaving many of Trump's MAGA supporters underwhelmed. And there was this moment on Fox News. The DOJ may be releasing the list of.

Jeffrey Epstein's clients. Will that really happen? It's sitting on my desk right now to review, but DOJ later trying to shut down. the release of the Epstein files and. acknowledging there was no list. White House Chief of Staff Susie Weil said on the. record in a vanity fair interview that Bondi quote. completely whiffed on Epstein. Democrats celebrating her departure. with Senate Minority Leader Chuck. Schumer saying good riddance, claiming that DOJ had been. turned into a political weapon.

But Republican Charles Grassley, chairman of the Senate. Judiciary Committee, thanking Bondi for her work and touting. that she had helped bring violent crime down to historic. lows. Bondi becomes the second major. cabinet official to lose her job in less than a month after. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem was. removed from her post. The AG is being replaced by Deputy Attorney General Todd. Blanch, respected attorney, but also a former defense. counsel for President Trump. Just days ago, Blanch tallied DOJ's removal of.

agents and prosecutors who worked on criminal. cases involving Trump. There is not a single man or woman at the Department of. Justice who had anything to do with those prosecutions. - Pierre Thomas joins us now. So Pierre, is the president likely to get different results. with Blanche or whomever he appoints permanently. as US Attorney General? - Well, it's hard to imagine anyone more loyal than Bondi, and there's no guarantee that judges, grand juries, and juries will give DOJ the results that it wants.

Today, Bondi posting that she's eternally grateful. for the trust Trump placed in her, and that she will continue fighting for Trump. and the administration, Lindsay. - Pierre, thank you. Next tonight, that big event for Artemis 2, firing up an engine, putting the spacecraft. on a path toward the moon. 24 hours after their spectacular launch, the crew is working out the bugs on their brand new spacecraft, among them a problem with the toilet. Here's ABC's Gio Benitez. - And liftoff. - Tonight, after that picture-perfect liftoff.

and a full day orbiting Earth. - Welcome on board the Integrity spacecraft. - The crew of Integrity taking the next critical step. on their mission to the moon. We have the start of the translunar injection burn. that will send the crew around the moon, the first humans to do so in over 50 years. Starting what's called the Translunar Injection Burn, or TLI, firing up the final engine. that will push the crew out of Earth's orbit. and on a four-day trip to the moon. Getting ready for rendezvous and proxops demonstration. Overnight, teams testing everything on board.

the 330-square-foot spacecraft. Pilot Victor Glover steering the Integrity, getting a feel of what it would be like to dock with a. spacecraft on future missions. "Here comes two left. One, two, left.". Just before they went to sleep, they had to troubleshoot a. problem with the ship's toilet. Hours later, Mission Control waking them up with the song. "Green Light" by John Legend. "Give me the green light!". And messages from their team back on Earth. "We're so proud to support the journey to the moon.".

"That was awesome. Thank you for all of those messages.". Artemis 2 launched into space at 6.35 p.m. Wednesday. The ground trembling and crowds cheering as. it tore across the sky. The crew blown away by their breathtaking. view of planet Earth. From about 38,000 nautical miles, the entire half of the Earth is spectacular. Can actually make out the coastline of the continent.

It is just absolutely phenomenal. You guys look great. And Lindsay, if everything goes as planned, those Artemis astronauts will reach the moon by Monday. Super exciting, Gio, thank you. Joe Biden's Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, and. his name was rumored to be on the chopping block. for many months.

Pete Hegseth made it official. tonight, saying George will be retiring effective. immediately. His vice chief of staff, Christopher Leneve, will. be taking over a general close to Hegseth. Down my phone and all of a sudden boom. The accident happened almost a week ago in. Jupiter Island, Florida. You can see the trailer Woods clipped before. flipping his Land Rover. Is anybody in the car? No he's out. I pulled up after it happened. Who's involved? Who's involved?

Woods had to crawl out of the passenger side. window. Martin County Sheriff's deputies checking on. the golf legend first. This is this comfortable for you. Woods seen on the phone, apparently. speaking with President Trump. I just keep it down here with us, please. Yeah, I was talking to the president. Deputies then bringing Woods to their. cruiser where they perform field sobriety. test. And how much have you had to drink today? None. Do you take any medication?

I take a few. Yes. Then arresting woods. So at this time, I do believe your normal. faculties are impaired. Okay. And you're under the unknown substance. Okay. So at this time you're under. arrest for D. U. I. Yes, sir. After going through his pockets, police finding. these prescription pills That's an Arco. It's an Arco? Yeah. Okay. Woods, taken to jail, charged with DUI. He's since pled not guilty. Woods pled not guilty to DUI. A judge granted him permission to seek.

treatment outside the U.S. Victor, thank you. Now to Hawaii, where the doctor charged with attempting to. murder his wife, taking the stand for a second day after. his emotional testimony claiming he acted in self-defense. Tonight, prosecutors are challenging him on that claim. Here's ABC's Trevor Aul. Tonight, prosecutors grilling the Hawaii anesthesiologist. accused of trying to murder his wife on a birthday hike. The prosecution's suggesting he was motivated by anger. over his wife's alleged emotional affair.

And you're upset, right? That's not the primary feeling at the time. I was feeling a lot of other feelings, but I was also upset. You were mad, right? I was not mad. You were not mad when you confronted your. wife about these messages. I was upset. Officials say Dr. Gerhard Koenig tried. pushing his wife Ariel off a cliff on this trail. before attempting to inject her with a syringe and. repeatedly striking her in the head with a rock. He claims she attacked him and he acted in self-defense.

How fast was this all happening? Mm hmm. Pretty fast, really fast. Doctor Konig claims after a pair of hikers stumbled upon them, his wife covered in blood. He was stunned at what happened and became suicidal. Did you ever want to hurt her that day? You reacted to defend yourself in the heat of that moment. You said yes, yes. And Lindsay Doctor Konig son testified. His father called him and said he tried to kill his wife.
