A small plane. crashes in a neighborhood on a quiet. Sunday morning, killing the pilot, the. only person on board. The chaotic scene. outside a dog [music] breeding and.

research site. Animal rights activists. protesting. Police firing rubber bullets. and pepper spray, [music] making. arrests. Two US Army soldiers injured in. an animal attack during a training. exercise, encountering a bear in a. remote area. What they did [music] that. may have saved their lives. Lindsay Davis. We begin with a showdown. over the Strait of Hormuz. Tonight, President Trump says the US forcibly. seized an Iranian flag cargo ship that. was trying to avert the naval blockade. near that critical waterway. The. Pentagon released the video. This comes. just hours after the president announced. a second round of peace talks on Monday. in Pakistan. Officials in that country. were preparing for the arrival of. delegations from the US and Iran. Moments ago, Iran promised a swift. response to the US seizure. The fate of. those peace talks is unclear tonight,

and the stakes could not be higher as a. ceasefire set to expire on Wednesday. We. have team coverage tonight. ABC's chief. foreign correspondent Ian Pannell leads. us off from Tel Aviv. Tonight, as critical new talks between. the US and Iran hang in the balance, the. standoff over the Strait of Hormuz. escalating. This dramatic video released by CENTCOM. showing the moment US forces attacked a. ship that defied orders to turn around. CENTCOM saying the vessel ignored. repeated warnings over 6-hour period.

Officials say more than two dozen ships. have turned round as a result of the. blockade. President Trump posting that. US forces have fired on and seized an. Iranian flag vessel that tried to get. past the American blockade and ignored. warnings to stop. Writing, "The Iranian. crew refused to listen, so our Navy ship. stopped them right in their tracks by. blowing a hole in the engine room. Right. now, US Marines have custody of the. vessel." This comes one day after Iran. fired on two Indian registered ships. near the Strait of Hormuz. The captain.

of one sending this angry radio message. in audio obtained by ABC News. Sayfa. Navy, Sayfa Navy. This is Motor Enga San. Madal. You give me clearance to go. My. name second on your list. You give me clearance to go. You are. firing now. Let me turn back. And now, uncertainty over planned peace talks in. Islamabad tomorrow. Hours after. President Trump announced that a. high-level US delegation was headed to. Pakistan, Iran's state news agency. reported that Tehran rejects taking part.

in talks and that the US naval blockade. of Iranian ports is violating the. ceasefire. The impasse comes with time. running out on the ceasefire between the. US and Iran, scheduled to expire. Wednesday. And unfortunately, we'll have. to start dropping bombs again. This. morning, President Trump doubling down. on his threats, telling our Jonathan. Karl that a peace deal will get done one. way or another. The nice way or the hard. way. It's going to happen. You can quote. me. And tonight, Pakistan trying to.

bring the US and Iran together. Prime. Minister Shehbaz Sharif speaking by. phone with Iran's President Masoud. Peseshkian. But it's still not clear if. talks tomorrow will happen. Lindsay, this is a critical moment. The. president's made clear these talks are a. last chance to make a deal. If they. fail, or indeed don't happen at all, then the ceasefire is breaking down and. the war starting up again. Lindsay. Such a pivotal time, Ian. Thank. you. President Trump is facing growing. pressure to end this unpopular war,

which is now nearing the 2-month mark. Let's bring in ABC's senior White House. correspondent Selena Wang. Selena, what's the latest? Well, Lindsay, the. pressure is growing for President Trump. to end this war. Trump had said that. this would be over in 4 to 6 weeks, but. tonight, we're entering week eight as. polling shows most Americans disapprove. of this war. We're told by a US official. that the president held a cabinet. meeting in the situation room this. weekend to discuss Iran and the Strait. of Hormuz. Tonight, oil futures are. surging and stock futures are lower as.

markets react to the reality that the. Strait is now once again closed and. there is no relief in sight for. Americans at the gas pump. Today, the. energy secretary acknowledged that gas. prices could remain elevated for months. and may not return to under $3 a gallon. until next year, Lindsay. Not what. Americans want to hear, Selena. Thank. you. Tonight, millions are facing. weather whiplash with frost and freeze. alerts in more than a dozen states. This. after record highs in parts of the East.

last week. Let's get right to. meteorologist Danny Beckstrom from our. New York station WABC. What a yo-yo, Danny. >> Weather whiplash for sure. The front's. moving out, which means the colder air. is moving in, and we wake up to morning. lows in the 30s and 40s across the. Northeast tomorrow. We have frost. alerts. We have freeze warnings posted. from Iowa to the New York City suburbs. tomorrow morning. And it gets even. colder on Tuesday. That's when we see a. freeze watch as far south as North. Carolina and the New York City suburbs. already upgraded to a freeze warning. We'll wake up to 20s and 30s on Tuesday.

morning, which means anyone that took. advantage of that record warmth this. past week by working in the garden, cover the sensitive plants for the next. couple of days. This is coming on the. heels of that week-long severe threat. Rounds and rounds of it. We have now 50. confirmed tornadoes across the country. from coast to coast and are looking. ahead to our next severe threat that. develops in the heartland by Thursday. >> All right, Danny. Thank you. And ABC's. Morgan Norwood is in that storm zone. tonight. Morgan, what are you seeing? Lindsay, this was an EF2 tornado with. winds up to 130 miles an hour ripping.

straight through this home here in Lena, leaving a gaping hole you can see right. through it. The refrigerator, debris, furniture, chairs tossed around. This is. one of 15 tornadoes reported across the. state of Illinois and one of 50 reported. across the storm zone in the heartland. and Midwest just in the past week alone. We just spoke with one of the owners. here, Bob Kaiser, who tells me that he. was emotional as he returned home to see. what was left of his home. He was trying. to salvage anything that he could. Photos, supplies, clothing, all of it.

buried between mounds of debris here. He's lived here for 14 years and. thankfully at his daughter's house when. the storm hit. But that is the through. line here. Yes, there is devastation, but so much relief. Officials here in. Lena said thankfully no one was killed. or injured when the storm hit, Lindsay. Very fortunate, Morgan. Thank you. Now. to a heartbreaking and horrific mass. shooting in Shreveport, Louisiana. Eight. children between the ages of 1 and 14. were killed in what police are calling a. gruesome crime scene. Here's ABC's Perry.

Russell. A Louisiana community is grieving. tonight after eight children were shot. and killed in what police are calling a. gruesome crime scene. >> three crime scenes just here in. Shreveport. >> [clears throat]. >> One of them. is is incredibly gruesome in nature and. it's going to take several hours to to. process. The children are between the. ages of 1 and 14 years old. Police in. Shreveport calling it a domestic. disturbance. Seven children found dead. inside one house. There was an. additional deceased child that looked.

like he had a tried to escape. The. gunman leading police on a chase. Officers killing the suspect who they. say was related to some of the children. who were killed. Neighbors distraught. hearing the news. >> We don't know what has happened, but we. know it's still our God above and we. need prayer. And we are still waiting for the names. of the children who were killed. The. mayor says this could be the most tragic. situation in the city's history, Lindsay. >> So awful, Perry. Thank you. One person. is dead after a small plane crashed into.

a residential neighborhood in Florida. Authorities say the plane appears to. have landed in the yard of a home. Here's ABC's Alex Presha. Oh my god. Tonight, an urgent. investigation underway after a small. plane crashed into a home near Tampa, Florida. The aircraft seen in this. doorbell video slamming into a. residential neighborhood. Officials say. the pilot was the only person on board. Tonight, authorities say there was one. fatality. It's bad. Um. It's pretty much ash. Um think you know when when it landed.

there was fire cuz I smelled the fuel. immediately. This Cessna crash comes. amid turbulent times for the airline. industry. Experts tonight warning Spirit Airlines. could be on the brink of liquidation due. to soaring jet fuel prices from the war. with Iran. Multiple reports say Spirit, who is trying to navigate recovering. from its second bankruptcy, has now. approached the Trump administration. about an emergency bailout to keep its. planes from being grounded for good. ABC. News has reached out to the White House. and Spirit Airlines. Neither has.

commented on the matter. As the Strait. of Hormuz remains effectively closed, airlines are sounding the alarm as the. price for jet fuel has skyrocketed. According to reports, Frontier, Allegiant, Sun Country, and Spirit are. set to meet with Transportation. Secretary Duffy next week as those. budget airlines struggle to keep up. We. think once this conflict is over, we're. going to see jet fuel go lower than it. was before the Iran conflict. So yes, a. small disruption, hopefully for a short. period of time, but in the long run it.

becomes cheaper. And Lindsay, jet fuel. forecasts in Europe ahead of the summer. travel rush could turn chaotic as the. International Energy Agency says Europe. could run out of jet fuel if supplies. don't start flowing regularly, meaning. canceled flights and stranded. passengers. Lindsay? Alex Presha for us, thank you. Now to a clash between police. and animal rights activists in. Wisconsin. Hundreds gathered as some. tried to storm into a beagle breeding. and research facility. Police fired. rubber bullets and tear gas. Several.

people were taken into custody. Here's. ABC's investigative reporter Olivia. Rubin. Tonight, dramatic video capturing. clashes between police. and hundreds of protesters outside a. Wisconsin animal research facility. The. chaotic scene unfolding Saturday. morning. Law enforcement officers shouting verbal. warnings. Deploying tear gas and pepper balls as. they say protesters tried to violently.

break in to Ridglan Farms, which breeds. beagles for biomedical research. This is. not a peaceful protest and we will do. everything and use every resource we. have to keep and maintain the peace. >> [cheering]. >> Some protesters say they were attempting. to reach the facility and free the. thousands of dogs inside. The Dane County Sheriff's Office stating. a significant number of arrests were. made. Sharing these images they say. include burglary tools such as saws,

fence cutters, and sledgehammers. Ridglan is set to give up its state. breeding license later this year in a. deal to avoid potential criminal charges. after a special prosecutor said they may. have found some evidence of animal. mistreatment according to the New York. Times, but the company will be allowed. to continue to perform its own. experiments. And Lindsay, law enforcement says last. month protesters actually did breach the. facility and remove several dogs.

Tonight in a statement, Ridglan Farms. saying their research benefits animals. and thanking law enforcement for. preventing what they say was effectively. a violent mass break-in. Lindsay? Back here. in the US, two US Army soldiers were. seriously injured by a bear during a. training mission in Alaska. Both. soldiers carried and deployed bear. spray. They are being treated at a. medical facility. Here's ABC's. Jacqueline Lee with new details coming. in tonight. Tonight, two Army soldiers are in the. hospital with serious injuries after a. bear attack in Alaska. A spokesperson.

with the 11th Airborne Division stating. the soldiers were participating in a. land navigation training exercise on. Friday at Joint Base. Elmendorf-Richardson when they. encountered the bear in a remote area. Both soldiers deployed bear spray during. the attack but sustained serious. injuries and were taken to a hospital in. Anchorage. The Alaska Department of Fish. and Game responded to the incident. determining it appears to be a defensive. attack by a bear recently emerged from a. den. And initial reports identified the. involved animal as a brown bear. Experts.

warn that bears become more active. during this time of year making. encounters more likely. The job of us as. humans is to be extra alert especially. during these spring windows when bears. are awake. They're just emerging.
