[music] of the crew aboard that Navy. vessel after they were safely hoisted. from the ocean into a helicopter. Also. tonight, Vice President JD Vance leading. the high-stakes negotiations for a peace. deal with Iran in Pakistan. The. highest-level face-to-face talks between. the two nations [music] in 47 years.

What it means for Americans here in the. US as the Pentagon says two Navy ships. are [music] sweeping the Strait of. The search. for clues in the case of a Michigan. woman missing in the Bahamas. Her. husband [music] arrested and now. awaiting a decision on possible charges. A US military plane is damaged after a. man allegedly breaks into an airport in.

Ireland and attacked [music] it with a. hatchet. What we're learning tonight. At. least eight people have been arrested in. connection with a deadly California. explosion. We're. hearing from the Artemis 2 crew after. that historic mission around the moon. The crew walking out on stage in Houston. for their welcome home and their first. post-mission press conference. The. jubilant and emotional crew sharing a. warm embrace and getting a standing. ovation at the presser. This less than. 24 hours after that dramatic re-entry. splashing down into the Pacific Ocean. and hoisted to safety. The astronauts.

posed for a group photo after viewing. their Orion spacecraft, which they. dubbed integrity, in the well deck of. the USS John P. Murtha shortly after. returning to Earth. It's the first. manned spaceflight to the moon in more. than 50 years, but just the beginning in. NASA's plans to go back to the moon and. beyond. ABC's Jacqueline Lee leads us. off tonight from San Diego. Tonight, after Orion spacecraft. integrity had a near-perfect splashdown. in the Pacific Ocean just after 8:00.

p.m. Eastern. Integrity splashdown. sending post-landing command now. The. Artemis 2 crew returning home from its. historic mission. Mission Commander Reid. Wiseman posting this photo on the way to. Houston saying, "This planet is. impossibly beautiful from every altitude. I've seen it.". And tonight, for the first time since. their return, we're hearing from the. four astronauts on their 700,000-mile. trip around the moon. 24 hours ago, the. Earth was that big out the window and we. were doing Mach 39 and here we are back.

at Ellington at home. NASA's cameras. capturing Integrity's return from the. ground. The spaceship, a small bright. spot in the sky, unable to communicate. with mission control for an excruciating. 6 minutes during re-entry. The Orion. spacecraft withstanding temperatures up. to 5,000°. We knew when blackout was going to. start, it started when we expected, we. knew when it was going to end, it ended. when we expected. The relief as. parachutes deployed, slowing their. descent before splashing down outside of. Southern California. A perfect bullseye splashdown for.

Integrity and its four astronauts. NASA's mission control erupting into. applause. >> [applause]. >> Navy divers racing to recover Christina. Koch, followed by Victor Glover Jr., Jeremy Hansen, and The last astronaut, Commander Reid Wiseman. Commander Reid. Wiseman. The historic four airlifted onto a. helicopter. Islamabad and the luxury five-star hotel. hosting several rounds of talks late. into the night. Both sides meeting first. with Pakistani leaders before the. historic sit-down, the highest-level. face-to-face meeting between the two. nations in 47 years. The Vice.

President's Special Envoy Steve Witkoff. and the President's son-in-law Jared. Kushner huddling with top Iranian. officials, including the speaker of the. Iranian Parliament. If the Iranians are. willing to negotiate in good faith, we're certainly willing to extend the. open hand. If they're going to try to. play us, then they're going to find that. the negotiating team is not that. receptive. Iran demanding the release of. billions in frozen assets, the end of. the Israeli attacks against its ally. Hezbollah in Lebanon, and security. guarantees against future attacks. The.

White House calling on Iran to turn over. its stockpile of enriched uranium. No. nuclear weapon, number one. The US also. calling on Iran to end its ballistic. missile program, support for terror. groups, and threats to stop the free. passage of ships in the Strait of. Hormuz. And as these talks continue, the. US military announcing that two Navy. destroyers passed through the key. waterway for the first time since the. war started. They probably have a couple.

of mines in the water. We have. minesweepers out there. But a spokesman. for Iran's military denying the claims. The President well aware the conflict. overseas is impacting the economy at. home. Inflation surging 3.3%, a two-year high. Much of it driven by a. 21% increase in gas prices, the largest. one-month increase since 1967. The average price of a gallon of gas now. $4.12,

up 92 cents from a year ago. But it is. unclear tonight here in Pakistan whether. these talks will lead to any sort of. agreement, although President Trump is. already saying, "We win, no matter. what." Let's. get right to ABC's Marcus Moore. reporting from Beirut tonight. Marcus, what can you tell us about those. strikes?

Well, Whit, as world leaders focus on. those talks in Pakistan, Lebanon is. reeling from this week's onslaught of. Israeli airstrikes on alleged Hezbollah. targets. In fact, three days after. Israel hit more than 100 targets in. about 10 minutes, heavy equipment was. only just now getting to the site of a. collapsed apartment building in central. Beirut. And we watched firsthand as. members of Lebanon's civil defense. cleared debris to look for a missing. woman at that site. The death toll in. Lebanon uh since March 2nd has surpassed. 2,000 people, according to the health.

ministry here. And many of them were. women and children who were in some of. those buildings that local officials say. were hit without warning. Now, what is. happening uh is undoubtedly uh will have. an impact on peace talks with Iran. saying that there can be no deal until. there's a ceasefire here. One of the leading Democratic candidates. for California's race for governor is. denying sexual assault and misconduct. allegations. But Congressman Eric. Swalwell is facing growing pressure to. drop out of the race. And a source says. the Manhattan District Attorney's office. has now launched an investigation. Here's ABC's Karen Travers. Tonight, Democratic Congressman Eric. Swalwell, a top contender in the. California governor's race, denying. accusations made by a former staffer.

that he sexually assaulted her. >> These allegations of sexual assault are. flat false. They're absolutely false. They did not happen. The San Francisco. Chronicle publishing the account of a. woman whom the paper did not name who. says she was 21 when she interned in. Swalwell's California district office. She claims, according to the Chronicle, that Swalwell pursued her sending her. explicit images and in 2019 sexually. assaulted her in a hotel room after a. night of drinks. The woman claims that.

at a gala in New York City 5 years. later, when she was no longer working. for him, Swalwell pursued her after a. night out and forced himself on her. Swalwell also responding to other women. reportedly accusing him of sending them. unsolicited nude photos and explicit. messages. Swalwell telling CNN the. allegations are false and threatening. legal action. ABC News has not. independently verified any of these. claims. The Manhattan District. Attorney's Office now investigating the. alleged 2019 incident in New York,

according to a source familiar. I've. certainly made mistakes in judgment in. my past. But those mistakes are between. me and my wife. And to her, I apologize deeply for. putting her in this position. Several. [clears throat] high-profile Democrats. pulling their support and calling for. him to drop out of the race, including. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries. who says the accusations are incredibly. disturbing and called for an. investigation. Tonight, Swalwell still intends to. continue his campaign, but with the.

pressure for him to drop out is expected. to grow. Karen Travers, thank you. Next tonight, a frightening scene at a subway station. in New York City. A man stabbing three. people with a machete. Police fatally. shooting the suspect who was allegedly. acting erratically and involved in a. verbal altercation. Here's ABC's Ike. Ejachi. Tonight, chaos inside New York's Grand. Central Terminal after a suspect. allegedly stabbed several people. The. individual was armed with a large knife.

described as a machete and was behaving. erratically, repeatedly stating that he. was Lucifer. Around 9:30 a.m., police. say 44-year-old Anthony Griffin traveled. to multiple subway platforms at one of. the busiest transit stations in the. world with this machete, slashing three. people. A 65-year-old man, a 70-year-old. woman, and an 84-year-old man. All. suffering serious injuries, but are. expected to recover.

Responding officers rushing to the. scene. They gave clear commands. They. attempted to de-escalate and when that. threat did not stop, they took decisive. action to stop it. Griffin was shot. twice and pronounced dead at a local. hospital. The NYPD says this appears to. be a random attack and it comes as. officers expand their patrols on New. York subways. Whit, so far this year.

citywide statistics show, despite this. incident, a drop in transit crime. Now, police say they are reviewing all body. worn camera footage and surveillance. video frame by frame. Whit? Ike Ejachi, thanks so much. Now to the Michigan man. arrested after his wife's disappearance. at sea in the Bahamas. Authorities are. weighing possible charges as they search. for clues and tonight we're learning new. details about the couple's alleged. volatile relationship. Here's ABC's. Morgan Norwood. Tonight, Bohemian police are pouring.

over evidence to determine whether to. charge American Brian Hooker in. connection with his wife's. disappearance. Authorities interviewing. him for 3 hours behind bars, grilled. about their decades-long marriage. They. went into intensive questioning and just. general information about their. relationship when they came here. It. comes as we learn more about what some. loved ones described as a rocky. relationship hidden behind their. seemingly peaceful and adventurous life. at sea.

My daughter and Brian have been married. um for many years. 25 years and it's been a very turbulent. relationship. Documents obtained by ABC. affiliate WZZM describe a 2005 domestic. incident involving Hooker and his young. daughter at the time in which he was. accused of putting his hands around her. neck. A jury later acquitting him. And. ABC News obtaining a 2015 police report. detailing an alleged domestic incident. between the couple with both accusing.

each other of assault. Police noting. Brian's bloody nose and Lynette was. taken into custody, but ultimately no. charges were filed. It's now been a week. since Lynette Hooker vanished. Her. husband Brian maintains his innocence. telling police Lynette fell overboard. after their boat hit rough surf. But. Lynette's daughter isn't buying it. She's a good swimmer. She's pretty fit. and I don't feel like she would just. fall off a boat. This next 48 hours. could be the most important part of this. case as to whether or not a confession.

is found or whether or not a body is. found. And with still no signs of Lynette. Hooker tonight, authorities have until. Monday when it comes to her husband to. decide whether to charge him, release. him, or opt for another 48-hour hold. Whit? Morgan Norwood, thank you for that. Overseas now to a suspect allegedly. attacking a US military plane with a. hatchet at an airport in Ireland. Officials say the suspect entered an. unauthorized area. Let's bring in ABC's. Tom Soufi Burridge and Tom, the Air. Force is confirming tonight that a C-130.

plane was damaged in the incident. Yeah, that's right, Whit. A man seen. dressed in black kneeling on one of the. wings of that C-130 aircraft, appearing. to inflict multiple blows to the upper. side of the wing. Now, US military. flights in parts of Europe have spiked. in recent weeks because of the Iran war, but the US Air Force said the C-130. which was damaged was actually on route. to Poland to take part in a military. exercise there. Irish police telling us. a man in his 40s who had entered an an.

Tonight, eight. people including a former police officer. under arrest in connection with a deadly. fireworks warehouse explosion in. Northern California that killed seven. people. Five now face murder charges.

The blast last year in Esparto, about 30. miles northwest of Sacramento, sparked a. wildfire, forced evacuations, and led. several communities to cancel 4th of. July celebrations. Investigators say up. to 1 million pounds of explosives were. stored near a home at the site when the. explosion occurred.
